Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Hegemony (2023)
Season 2, Episode 10
7/10
Really?
10 August 2023
I like Star Trek Strange New Worlds overall and I had liked season 2 so far. Some episodes were really beautiful and the rest were at least above average. Even the one where Spock laughed!

However, incomplete endings like the one in "Hegemony" just make me lose my respect and drive me away. I consider it a cheap trick to bring viewers and I do not think this show needed it.

I mean what exactly do you people think when you cut something sort of exciting in half? Do you actually think it will continue next year where you left it as you left it? Most people don't remember what they ate in the morning.

One of the best episodes of all Star Trek Franchise
22 June 2023
Star Trek is definitely more than just a sci-fi show. It is dreaming of a better society, a better system. Looking for places to improve. It questions norms, argues. It asks what can be done and how can be done. It tries to give answers. It experiments with ideas, extrapolates thoughts, tries to see how they will work in practice.

For example; identifies money as the cause of some problems. Then removes money and creates a world where money is not needed or money's functionality is provided by other means.

"Ad Astra Per Aspera" is one of those episodes that is less sci-fi but more psychological, sociological and philosophical. It has brought about an unexpected flood of emotions and thoughts.

Excellent text and excellent acting as well. The Star Trek in the recent years have been sort of okay, but I had kinda forgotten that I loved Star Trek. Today, I remembered.

I'll for sure be more aware of 'opportunities to be my better self' and try to seize them. :)

A movie where a wrong cast is telling nothing
19 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I start by admitting that I don't really understand the point this movie tries to make.

It tells about sort of an abusive relationship that involves an egocentric man and a woman who has no idea what is going on, her two friends that she doesn't love, and as a side story tells about a woman who is missing who later turns out to be killed.

But it all doesn't make any point. The man takes "no" as an answer. So, he is not that bad. The friends interfered in the relationship and caused a change in the state of things, but we don't know what follows. Have the friends ruined the relationship which could rather have been fixed? Or have they actually saved her from a bottomless pit?

One of the friends breaks the car's rear window... Are they jealous, loveless and violent people? Are they the worst thing that happened to her? Or are they real friends such that they go the lengths to commit the criminal act of breaking the cars window for the well being of their friend?

As much as I think it is nice that it is left to the viewer to fill the gaps, still it is too much nothingness to watch for 89 minutes.

Finally, Anna Kendrick isn't the actress for this sort of movies. She is a lot more suited for the happy, singing and dancing stuff.

A lot of random stuff and people that do not matter
21 November 2022
When there is some tense or energetic music in a film, the audience expects something important is about to happen. Something important sometimes happens and sometimes doesn't happen but the thing is you prepare the audience emotionally at certain times and you gotta deliver every now and then. If there is constant background music in a film I consider it fishing the viewers and one of the signs that indicates it is a cheap film.

In this show there is constant tense background music to bait the audience into watching and camouflage the weak content.

Many of the characters in this show and their detailed background stories are not tied to the main story in any way. Except for 4 characters, you could literally replace any character with anyone and anything they do or did could be anything else and it wouldn't matter. You could give them any other personality; you could make them serial killers, green peacers, communists or whatever and it wouldn't matter. You could even completely remove them and it still wouldn't matter. That is the extent of how ridiculously bad this show is. Why these characters exist and why they are detailed don't make any sense.

It feels like a "we made sort of a decent show in the past, whatever we do now will be watched anyway" kind of mindset created this show.

Trying to finish this first season, I felt the discomfort when I need and want to sleep so badly but I have drunk so much coffee and can't fall asleep.

It is perfect
22 September 2022
I literally can not find anything not to like about this movie.

Good sounds, colors, camerawork etc.

Interesting story and well told as well. Original unique characters with background stories are brought to life by a very on point cast. Aubrey Plaza suits very well with the cool and self-confident woman figure. Theo Rossi is very convincing in his role.

Even the length of the film is perfect. There is a not a single wasted second in 97 minutes.

This movie gave me a feeling of completeness. It is a very easy watch. It is immersive. It is the first time I've ever rated 10/10.

Do not miss it.

House of the Dragon (2022– )
6/10
It is nothing near GoT
6 September 2022
***** Update after the 4th episode: It is waste of time.

***** The comment below is made after the first three episodes. *****

House of the Dragon is built upon the success of Got but it doesn't resemble GoT in terms of the viewer experience. There is some action going on but it doesn't engage the viewers probably because the characters are sort of dull and the text has not shown any promise to be interesting so far. Not to mention GoT was successful but overall quality of the show is also debatable.

It feels to me like the remakes of old successful movies that don't match the original. It is quite common these last couple of years. Some of them even feel like an insult to the original. Unfortunately it is still profitable.

It has not been engrossing like GoT so far but it is not so bad either. It can go either way in the future episodes. It can turn out to be a complete waste of time or we might be watching an amazing show.

Just too much Caleb
15 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Really there is not much to say about season 4 of Westworld. A whole season of 8 episodes revolves around a waste of a character that makes the show dull and disappointing. I actually like the story of season 4 to some degree. I believe the world Hale built, how she keeps sublime alive and the storyteller Dolores are interesting. But I can't make sense of the amount of Caleb and his emotional garbage shown to the viewers. A character like him doesn't belong in a show like this. You have super interesting characters such as: William, Charlotte, Dolores, Teddy, Maeve, Bernard, Clementine etc.

Black Mirror: Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too (2019)
Season 5, Episode 3

One of the good episodes of Black Mirror
18 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I barely know Miley Cyrus. I don't listen to her music, I wouldn't recognize her If I saw her in a movie or smth. Anyway, I'm making this explanation because It seems she has a lot of delusional fanboys all around. I'm not one of them. If anything, I had negative thoughts about her because of some sort of disgusting old news I heard from somewhere in the past.

So, about this episode; It started so bad such that at some point I had a laughter. Her manager talked about harvesting Ashley's talent and recording songs she would compose while she was in coma. As far as I was concerned there was no such thing as Miley Cyrus' talent, so I was like what the hell am I watching.

The episode started to become fun and exciting when the sisters deleted the code piece that limited the Ashley Too.

When I finished the episode, I was thinking it was half bad and half ok.

But later I thought Black Mirror is a good show and at least half of this episode is okay. So, the bit that made me laugh might as well be an intentional hidden joke. And it made me laugh so it served the purpose. Even though it felt non-intentional and risked ruining the episode, I'd like to think It was a smart, unexpected and calculated bit.

Long story short, I enjoyed the episode more than at least half of all Black Mirror episodes. I even have positive thoughts towards Miley Cyrus now. Maybe I'll even check out her music some day.

Closure episode I guess
14 July 2022
I've enjoyed this show for like 20 years and thank you to the creators and everyone involved for that. Unfortunately. "tegridy farms" happened in 2018 and the show has been disappointing since. Streaming Wars part 2 as well as part 1 are just awful and I completely agree with the viewer discretion warning at the beginning that this shouldn't be viewed by anyone. It is so bad it is actually sad.

Reminds me of "The Fall"
12 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
One of a kind fantastic movie especially during these dark times when cinema is dominated by hypnotizing superhero movies that turn viewers to addicted zombies.

Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal both show amazing acting performances to a point where they seem at another level compared to everyone else.

This movie reminds me of The Fall (2006) where imagination and reality sort of coexist. I also can't tell what genre it falls into like The Fall.

I'd rate it 10 except I am not a fan of the embassy scene.

It is a great special movie. Do not miss it!

It is a waste of time overall
31 May 2022
It is a non-immersive movie with interesting characters being wasted on a non-interesting script.

For a 142 min movie one could expect music and sounds lift viewers up. It this case they turn it into a try not to sleep challenge.

Cinematics deserves commendation but the animations are poor. It is like there is no physics engine used on the winged creatures. Wing movements do not match the body's movements. They just randomly flap wings and fly.

So, overall it is bad if you are into Harry Potter stuff. It is 100% waste of time if you don't care Harry Potter.

It is a Star Trek
12 May 2022
Although it is probably easy to make good reviews after Discovery and Picard having lowered the expectations, I believe this one actually shows promise.

Good cast, likable characters, promising storyline, decent acting, and most importantly it feels Star Trek. I am looking forward to future episodes.

Star Trek: Picard (2020–2023)

Pretty much an insult to Star Trek franchise and Patrick Stewart himself.
6 February 2020
**This comment is written after the first 3 episodes.**

It is just sad to see Captain Picard in a cheap shot like this after a great show like Star Trek TNG. This is a new low after Star Trek Discovery. And Discovery was acceptable to a certain level because it was just bad within itself, it didn't ruin anything good. This one is ruining the good memory of Star Trek TNG.

Potentially painful to watch for Star Trek fans.
20 April 2019
The story is amateurish. It sometimes doesn't make much sense. A number of events are not connected to anywhere and just left in the air. Probably they made some of the characters and events just for the sake of being PC. It is awful.

Star Trek Discovery is an insult to all the great previous work under the name Star Trek and to the fans.

First Man (2018)

Great low budget indie movie. Oh wait..
5 January 2019
So this is a movie about one of the most significant events in history. And knowing that is pretty much the only thing that makes this movie watchable for over 2 hrs.

Acting was decent. Story telling was dull and it could have been kept between 60 to 90 minutes. It definitely could have been told way more interesting way. Sound, music etc. were bad. It was also not a nice watch visually.

It sure felt like a low budget movie that ten or so friends shoot for the fun of it.
