Why all the cliches and gross overacting?
7 June 2024
Unfortunately this show proves that even tremendous actors like Benedict Cumberbatch, can turn in terrible performances when poorly directed. The ham-handed acting is making it very hard to connect with any of the characters. In fact, they come off as trite and terribly unlikeable. The dialogue is fraught with cliches and unnecessary swearing. There was an opportunity here to explore so many social issues but unfortunately I have no empathy for any of the characters. It actually seems like the director had little skill at sculpting truthful, evocative and nuanced performances. I'm really hoping this series improves.

Very Disappointed
27 January 2024
The promos, teasers and hype preceding the premiere of this series was intriguing. Was really looked forward to what I thought would be a complex, atmospheric, psychological thriller. But 10 minutes in, I was already knocked out of the narrative. I could not understand why the cast was overacting to the point of almost being campy??? Even Jodie Foster was hitting the cheap seats! The characters felt forced and cliche, the sex & violence scenes seemed unnecessary & gratuitous, and the use of vocal tunes for "atmosphere" seemed plopped in for faux coolness. The episode has a visual strength but the story is choppy at best and the performances are at times very irritating. I hope the next episodes directors protect the story & characters better and stop trying to be "cool".

What happened?
31 October 2023
This series used to be a jewel in Netflix's crown. Smart, brave and dealing with subjects and issues that no one else would dare tackle. Brilliant cast, impeccable performances and outstanding story telling. But this last season, and especially the last two episodes make me wonder, what happened? The writing lost its edge, intelligence, biting sense of humour and soul. Performances are forced and unrealistic. The directors need to get out of the way of the story and stop shooting material for your reel. Very disappointing finish to a brilliant, ground-breaking series. I will pretend Season 4 never happened.

Fantastic 80's Style Romanic Caper Comedy
25 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Remember those great series of the 80's like Hart to Hart, Moonlighting. MacMillan & Wife and so on? Complete escapist fun with a romantic twist. This one is extra special because it takes place on the magnificent island of Malta. The scenery is a feast for the eyes and the local culture is beautifully embraced. Lacey Chabert & Will Kemp are wonderful together. Their chemistry is easy and natural. There are several showcase scenes in the film including a very sexy water tango scene where Bailey & Sebastian practice their dance in a shallow pool overlooking the island. And a dream sequence dance number done in 40's style black & white, harkening back to the days of Fred & Ginger. All in all, good fun and doesn't take itself too seriously.

Beautiful, fun & sweet.

Perfect escapism. Gorgeous locations, lovely cast and a charming story. Rachelle Lefevre and Luke Macfarlane are wonderful together. Loved the authenticity of the supporting cast which are clearly French. Definitely worth watching.

Christmas at Castle Hart (2021 TV Movie)

Charming, funny & heartfelt.
28 November 2021
One of this years best offerings by Hallmark. Not just a Christmas romance but a touching and at times very funny look at sibling relationships. Lacey Chabert & Stuart Townsend are very good together and sister relationship between Lacey Chabert & Ali Hardiman is well crafted and believable. All set against the magical splendor of Ireland. A very sweet and entertaining Christmas film.
