Unfrosted (2024)
8/10
Absolutely goofy, ridiculous and great fun
5 May 2024
Infrosted is unabashedly intended for undeniable silliness. Just when you think you've lost your tarts for watching this movie, the great jokes, ingenuity and a surprising cast, all of whom were obviously having fun, you'll find yourself laughing. Is it corny? Like cornflakes.

The plot is absurd but filled with ingenuity, humor, good nature and a grrrr-eat break from all the seriousness and forced profundity of current entertainment and (and news). Just relax and don't think so hard about acting skills, plot development, etc.

Watch this movie for what it is. No one is going to win awards here. Just enjoy a few laughs and have fun.

Love Again (I) (2023)

Love again and again...
3 September 2023
Well, it wasn't as awful as I had imagined it would be. Foremost, poor Sam Heughan just can't catch a a good script, a good opportunity...a good director? I dunno. Maybe this Scottish hunk will always be Jamie from Outlander. He's very good in outlander, strong and confident in his performances, but in other works he continually fails to engage the role. Or maybe he's just not enough box office material to get offered an opportunity to show his acting chops beyond the kilted hero. He's not connecting on screen, despite his chiseled good looks. It's a disappointment for one who's watched his career over the years.

The film? Oh, let's not get all worked up that's it not the greatest rom-com of all times. It's formulaic, banal and poorly written and we all know it was a platform for Celine. But there were a few moments of great delivery by all involved - a few laughs. The film isn't awful. Good enough for 5, maybe 6 stars. I'll give it 6 because of Heughan. One of these days, Sam, you'll get to sink your teeth into a role - and then we'll know if you're the It Guy. You're so freaking likable, I'll continue to place my bets on you.

The Lost Movie
2 June 2022
Oh Geeze. This was truly awful. Let's see, I think I may have chuckled twice? I was hoping for a fun romcom but this was movie was just stupid. Of course, the plot was expected to be silly, but couldn't there have been any truly funny scenes? I can't imagine what Sandra Bullock was thinking when she took on this project. Absolutely no chemistry with Channing Tatum (who really needs to stop shaving his head). Daniel Radcliffe made the movie bearable, but just. Lousy lousy writing. I'm so mad I paid the for the rental and even more that I wasted my time.

The Lincoln Lawyer (2022– )
7/10
Ya know, all in all it was ok
21 May 2022
Mickey Halley fans will have a few issues with this series. I admit I was a bit surprised to see Cisco cast as Haller: I read all the Haller book series so had my own vision of the character and Cisco didn't fit the image. I kept with him, though, because I found Cisco very likable on screen, he has a presence that was most definitely undermined by the poor casting of supporting characters. The scripting is uneven, plodding at times, but with each episode it was Cisco that kept me intrigued. He's appealing and the camera loved him. All in all, the series isn't awful and it's not great, but watchable. If Netflix pulls it's self together say as it did with The Last Kingdom (admittedly a completely different genre), pouring cash into better production and casting, the Lincoln Lawyer has a chance of a second season. Cisco is a keeper...the rest of the casting needs a full revamp. Scripting tightened...time will tell if Netflix believes it's worth the effort.

Outer Range (2022– )

Wait, was that the finale....
7 May 2022
I'll ask again. Did I just watch the finale? I can't decide what has disappointed me more: every episode of this total mess or that I wasted my time watching every episode of this total mess. Outer Range simply tries too hard to be cool and so very sci-fi or maybe it didn't a try hard enough. Either way, it fails miserably. One day no one knows about a hole in the ground, the next day everyone inexplicably does, including a herd of Buffalo - the smartest of the bunch, running away as fast as they can...which is what I should have done after episode 1 and what I suggest you do if you haven't watched it. Every character you think you're going to like, you'll end up not caring about in the least & hope and are relieved when each one just goes away. Boring and insulting to it audience, Outer Range thinks it's too smart for its own cowboy britches. Believe these 8 - 10 ratings if you will, but you have friends here who have warned you. Don't get sucked in the hole of Outer Range.

Bond. Jim Bond.
9 April 2022
What a truly awful, ridiculous film. If you are looking for the James Bond we all knew and cheered about, he's not in this movie. No, folks, this is Jim Bond, chatty and oh so witty, in love with a former villains daughter - played by (I can't remember her name) a talentless actress, Rami as the arch villain is absurd in this role, playing his ever spooky self but never truly convincingly evil. I can't say enough about how disappointing this farewell to Daniel Craig is; maudlin, simpering, oh-so-sensitive, teary-eyed. Not James. Little Jimmy Bond.

Daniel Craig was among the best of the Bond portrayals. Craig argued about making this film. He wanted to quit before this getting talked into this disaster of a film. He should have stuck to his instincts that one more run was just one more too many.

(Believe the low ratings for this movie. Don't waste your time or money. If you're a true James Bond fan, this movie will really hack you off).

A fun, sweet movie
19 March 2022
Hey, it's not an award winner, but the premise is wonderfully imaginative. Everyone holds there own in this breezy, sweet movie. The CGI wasn't great, but despite that, and a bit of a slow start, I think the cast had fun and wanted its audience to a little fun as well. It was nice to watch a movie that didn't take itself too seriously - for a change.

Just can't - sorry not sorry
2 December 2021
A dark, brooding film that critics adore. The film is "brilliant" because it's an expose on toxic masculinity via Montana tough and gritty cowboys. It's films like this through which we are required to face our own lack of social intelligence and to refine our understanding and acceptance of all things woke. Enjoy, as you will. Just can't plod my way through another boring, pretentious social lesson.

Not awfu, not great
22 April 2021
The biggest issue with this movie, is that, with great apologies to my British friends, Britain is crappy at making action films. Leave those to Hollywood. So to the actors: Ruby Rose should retire and find another means of employment- I think she has anyway. She was truly awful. Sam Heughan. Well, this guy plays Jamie in outlander and for those viewers who know the Jamie character well, they will recognize many of the same mannerisms, and facial expressions. If Heughan ever hopes to break loose of his strong identification with Jamie, he's going to have learn to change certain aspects of his body and facial language. Was he good in the film? Sorta. I think they tried too hard to make his character multi-dimensional and Heughan seemed to struggle with that. He's larks a spark on the screen - a star power which I believe he can achieve, but he needs a break-through opportunity and great direction to help him "not be a Jamie". This was not that film. Outlander may have cooked his goose for future and better opportunities. The scripting of SAS was poor as was the direction - and they weren't of any help to this film. Overall, the film wasn't a complete disaster and now that it rentable, viewing it is not total waste of your time. There are cheesy scenes, there are decent scenes. The final fight scene, however, was absurd. So get ready for that. This film was in the can for almost year before the studios locked down and the film failed to a distributor, which may tell you that my 5 rating is generous. Not awful. Not great.

Pretty awful, actually

Could only watch the first 10 minutes. The acting is terrible...and if a story can't grab you in the first 10 minutes, it won't ever.

Awful.
21 May 2020
Historical inaccuracies aside, this production is below par for PBS. The plot was beyond suspending belief - just ridiculous . Acting was poor on all accounts, yes, even Sean Bean, who did the best he could, I suspect, with what was given him. The whole thing was boring but I stuck with it. Why do I do put myself through this when early on I knew it was a drag? And this gets a second season??? But Sandition does not? Can't figure that one out. I truly recommend you pass on this... it's not worth your binge. That is, unless you watch it to help you fall asleep. Worked for me in that regard. What a snoozer. PBS, you are better than this.

Whatever possessed Pacino....
4 March 2020
Shame on Pacino for agreeing to this 10 episode mess. I'm not a Tarantino aficionado so I can't claim some great critical wisdom here, but I gotta tell you there were moments when I swear I saw a question pass over Pacino's face, "what the hell am I doing with this crappy script?". Seriously this was just awful. The script, the acting, the pretense of being so hip, so woke, so innovative, so self-important. The ending was a complete joke - utterly stupid and insulting. But the real shame of it all? I watched the whole 10 yards of it. Shame on me.

Quite good, actually
24 February 2020
Not pure Jane Austin, but good enough. A bit rough around the edges here and there, but all in all, quite enjoyable. Didn't get the US numbers they needed for a pick up of season 2, which is unfortunate. Sydney has a bit of Mr. Darcy him...the great dark, brooding good looks, and the whole coming out of the water thing. That alone makes this worth watching.

S2- So boring I can't even recall the ending....
6 November 2019
What a complete and total disappointment. Lousy scripting, stupid plot. What's with Jack wearing white Dockers into a dangerous nighttime jungle recon? S1 was good enough - not great - but still good enough to stir up some anticipation for S2. Sadly, S2 doesn't live up to the hype. John K 's sad worried little puppy face became simply annoying. But his sleeves were always rolled up his forearms and that's the mark of a true stud, right? Whatever. Sorely disappointed in ya, AMAZON.

Meh
6 November 2019
This was just okay. Although it's stated at the outset this movie is just imagining what happened during the true 11 day disappearance of Agatha Christie, the lackluster script is missing the 'fun' of Christie's mysteries with intriguing & imaginative characters. Then again, only Christie could have written her own story. Five generous stars for a so-so movie.

Funny and profound, moving and profane, After Life is so well written, so well performed, it would be a shame if you missed it. So do yourself a favor, watch every episode and be amazed.

Great, but Season 4 lackluste
16 January 2019
Season 1 gets a 10. Absolutely awesome. The best! Season 2 gets an 8: still very good Season 3 gets a 9: great, great, great Season 4 gets a 4: such a disappointment. Boring, boring. New writers and directing. But it's been renewed for season 5 so you need to watch season 4 to keep up. This series has a lot going on with all the characters and plot lines. Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe have chemistry that will blow your socks off.

Is the series worth watching? Absolutely! I've watched season 1-3 three times (avid fan) but won't watch 4 again. Have fun. This is a great series.

The Last Kingdom (2015–2022)
10/10
Outstanding.
16 January 2019
So this is how it goes. Season 1. You hang in for a couple of episodes, then you start thinking, wow, this is really good. Then you think, heck, I might as well move right on to Season 2 and you say, whoa, this is awesome. Of course you'll immediately plunge right into Season 3 which of course, you CAN'T STOP WATCHING because it's EPIC.

Script writing, cinematography and actors are all perfectly in sync. The soundtrack is mesmerizing. There's blood, battles, kings, queens, Saxons, Danes, love, sorrow, humor and lots of The Unexpected. And history. Real history. David Dawson deserves award after award for his portrayal of King Alfred, Alexander Dreymon, besides being quite breathtakingly hunky, has perfected the conflicted warrior-hero, Harry McIntire - well, you just gotta watch. The entire cast simply excels at their craft.

Netflix signed on for Season 4 - and for good reason. You won't be disappointed with The Last Kingdon. Destiny is all.
