Ted Lasso: So Long, Farewell (2023)
Perfect finale except for one part...
This would be absolute PERFECTION and a great send off except for one thing that I will mention shortly. I feel Ted's departure from the club was the only way to finish this series off and Rebecca keeping the club was the right decision to develop new players and maintain the relationship with the current ones. I also loved Roy becoming manager with the prospect of Nate becoming the Mourinho type mastermind with Coach Beard's expertise.
However AFC Richmond finishing second after the triumph at West Ham felt kinda a bit of a low blow. Whether it was a licensing issue or a creative decision, I felt blueballed into believing Ted won the league like the Leicester 5000-1 season which would have perfected Ted's comeback from the Championship as well as securing himself as an even bigger legend at the club after gifting Richmond their first Premier League, but he came second place only for a pretty forgettable piece of comedy with the "ussie" guy from the pilot episode. I feel the trophy lift with McAdoo lifting the trophy and Ted living in the moment would have been the best ending to a show since Felina in Breaking Bad that I have ever seen. But that was my only critic and really bugged me especially after the episode concluded and it settled in that the whole show was over....all for second place.
However the cinematography was beautiful, especially with the "Believe" sign being put together and the ceiling shot of the "1,2,3 Richmond" to show the rebuilt sign as well as the cinematography of the actual West Ham game. The comedy was of course on point as always, especially with Roy Kent crying on the sideline after watching the montage Coach Beard and Ted made as well as Coach Beard's appendix "bursting" in the plane. Genuinely made me howl.
Even though I loved this episode for the first hour and considered it perfect, the reveal Ted didn't win the league was, in my opinion, a bad decision and almost feels they ran out of budget or chose to not win it for a very forgettable comedy skit. Therefore it can't be perfect in my eyes and hence I rate the finale an 8/10.
