Pure Art
16 July 2022
This film is pure art. I love the film and its nuances. It is full of symbolism, witty one-liners, longing, irony, and melancholy. The subtle anti-Thatcherite attitude of the 1980s is superbly woven into the PSB film - and into the hypnotic PSB music. The music ties the film together wonderfully.

Trivia: "Being Boring", "It Could't Happen Here" and "Your Funny Uncle" Neil Tennant wrote about a friend who died of AIDS.

Recommended.

A superb political drama
9 June 2022
Forget Argo, watch Invisible Heroes instead. This fantastic political drama is not a Hollywood-style production but a realistic, elegantly executed story. This political drama is set in Chile 1973 where a diplomat's son gets a job at the Finnish Embassy. Soon after, the Pinochet junta performs a coup d'etat and murders president Salvador Allende, after which the new charge d'affairs gets involved in the political turmoil in the way he had never expected. This is not an action thriller but a drama with a natural pace, with beautiful music, excellent production, carefully thought-out and well-crafted characters and superb acting. The drama is extremely intense - I had to watch all six episodes at one go. Highly recommended.

Capitalism, greed, and gold
7 March 2022
I can't stand Matthew McConaughey. But I could watch him in this movie over and over again. This is one of my favourite movies. The two guys and gold - the passion for a dream; the greedy investors swarming like rats around the scheme, depicted in a frantic pace - I love the way this movie was made.

The soundtrack is superb, the acting is fab, and McConaughey is fantastic in this role, making himself appear as repulsive, human, irrational an eccentric as possible. That is art, his transformation for this movie. I could watch this well-rhythmed adventure movie over and over again. The frantic rhythm of the film engages the viewer so that the viewer feels the excitement in his/her bones. This is my first ever review - and sorely lacking in any expertise in film-making - - - but this movie deserves more praise than what the user reviews here say. Excellent work!

Rancid
16 January 2022
I guess I belong to the target group of this movie (40+) but there was nothing in this tripe of a movie I could relate to. The movie was almost insulting in its stupidity. And listening to and watching Meryl Streep giggle through her role for two hours like she was on helium was unbearable. Alec Baldwin took a bit of a more risk in his role, letting his middle-aged self all hang out, and that was all admirable. And he was funny in places. But what do these film makers take us +40 for when they make these rancid petit bourgeois movies, mindless dimwits or what?! Spare us, please. I give this film a three out of ten, and the three stars are merely because it finally ended, after almost two hours.
