The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate Conman (2022)
So many missed opportunities
1. As others have stated, these people must be half-gone to fall for this man's lies. Or there is A LOT missing. What isn't Sarah telling us? What could he possibly have on her to keep her for 10 years?!? Were there drugs involved? Did they commit crimes together? What the heck did they do for a DECADE. The doc skims over this huge time frame, saying oh they drove around, stayed in safe houses, worked in pubs.. umm.... meanwhile, secret agent Robbie is scamming other people, getting the other girl who was with Sarah pregnant with two kids over 9 years?? Where were the kids during this time??? Where are they now??? They mention the 9 year relationship and then move on... Was this some kind of Manson family sex cult? MK Ultra? The documentary was so lazy I am offended that it exists.
2. WHO IS ROB??? This documentary did absolutely no work digging into the history of this alleged conman. Where did he grow up? Who raised him? How was he so clever at manipulating people, and for so long. Was he actually connected in any way to the government? (How did he access police records, how did he know Sarahs dad was looking for her?) Where did he keep his money? Was he working alone? I find it impossible to believe he worked alone, conning SO MANY people over so many years, simultaneously.
What a disappointment. Zero stars.
I Love You, Now Die: The Commonwealth v. Michelle Carter (2019)
Atleast now there will be Conrad's Law
Interesting doc from a legal perspective. She was definitely guilty and the judge had to convict her to set precedence for future cases like this. She should have received more jail time.
A positive - the family has since pushed to write new law, Conrad's Law, that will make convicting someone who has encouraged/coerced another to take there own life up to 5 years in prison (probably on top of manslaughter charges or other charges depending on the case). The doc doesn't touch on this at all, maybe it all happened after.
Without Charity (2013)
Truly disgusting
This documentary skims the surface of the American justice system, and doesn't dig deep enough to present anything more than what the media originally published. The documentary should have been an attempt to uncover even more about Charity's disgusting character... Yes "without Charity" there would have been no murders, but she had way too much screen time smiling and playing the victim for me to think this was a good true crime doc.
She did much more than "run her mouth" to the 4 men. She lied to her friend to get the car, sought the men out, was inside a house with them for a long time, alone with one for 45min in a bathroom (which they don't even ask her about), had motive to target her boyfriends house, drove them to the house, knew it was going to happen... These are all facts that got her convicted, but I don't know... the film just presents this and doesn't do enough to expose more.
She's not that smart, they could have had her saying more in the interviews, but I don't think they were asking the right questions. This shouldn't have been about "would this have happened without Charity?" it should have been about "look at how guilty she is and how horrible the justice system is"... I mean, I guess it ends up being that, but not explicitly enough.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Still mad about it
Remember when all that everyone ever talked about was Game of Thrones and then overnight literally NO ONE talked about Game of Thrones again? All thanks to the worst ending in the history of storytelling.
The Sinner: Part VIII (2020)
Horrible Show
Do not waste your time on this show.
The police do not act like police at any point in this show. It is beyond infuriating to watch every episode just fall apart.
If you want to be made to feel "bad" for a psychotic killer, then this show is for you. The victims don't matter, all that matters in this show is that the privileged white killer (who is out of his mind) feels "sad and afraid" in the end. I personally hated his character and never empathized with him at all, so it made "feeling it" as some other critics expressed, impossible.
Realistically, they would have arrested and charged him by the second episode, and the "detective" would have been charged as well, at the very least fired. That would have been a more interesting and believable story than this absolute garbage.
The Sinner: Part V (2020)
Frustrating show
Every single thing the detective does in this show drives me absolutely insane.
Your Honor (2020)
A "great" show to hate watch
I don't know what bothers me more: the horrible writing, the contrived camerawork, every courtroom scene, the train-wreck of a character that is Adam, the actor who plays Adam, the "mobsters" who are not acting like mobsters and know literally nothing, the detectives who are not investigating anything, the mobster's daughter who doesn't know the last name of Adam even though they have been dating for approx 3 months, or the judge who should have been caught 2 episodes into this dumpster fire of a series. Good God.
Also, this is the first show I have ever watched that features a completely cut scene in a "previously on". The scene where the detective Nancy is shown Robyns photographs never happened in the show! Yet in Ep 9 she has the photographs and has figured out that she was having an affair (?) and had checked into a hotel using cash and a fake name (????). Did I miss an episode? Sadly, I did not. I mean, I have hate-watched a show before, but Your Honor has taken this to another level. Rage watching is where I'm at at this point.
Nothing. Makes. Sense.
Eighth Grade (2018)
Cringe is not a genre
Waste of time. No plot. Purposefully cringey because they've got nothing else to grasp. Very very poor representation of kids in the 8th grade. I was honestly offended by how bad this movie was. Zero Stars. Nothing happens except so much bad dialogue jesus christ make it stoppppp.
Cavendish (2019)
Hilarious and Playful
A funny new comedy with my favourite Canadian comedian/actor Mark Little!
