Runaway (I) (2010)
8/10
Don't Runaway from this film
2 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I think that this film should be watched by everyone who has listened to the album and has any interest and/or love of the record.

The film in incredibly engaging and transitions extremely well, start to finish. There is an overarching melancholy emotion portrayed perfectly in Kanye West's minimal, but certain acting. With very few lines, his physical acting creates a character that is understood.

Although Kanye plays a part in the film, he does not represent the protagonist (will refer to it as that from now on) of My Beautiful Dark Twister Fantasy. Instead a new character, the phoenix represents the protagonist. The choice of a phoenix represents his rise from the ashes, as many people thought that he had lost all ability after the release of 808s & Heartbreak.

While the film is called Runaway, the song is in the middle of the film, like in the album. The scene does the same that the song does in the album. It is Kanye recognizing his flaws and telling his close ones to runaway from him. I think that one part of this does falter from the rest of the film, because in this scene it is Kanye in the part of the protagonist, not the phoenix.

The final scene is the emotional peak of the film. Just go watch it.
