Code 68 (2005)

Absolutely grotesque
19 June 2006
It's the first time I just have to review a film, if only to spare my fellow movie goers. I saw this film when it came out in France last summer and everything about it was so poor that some of the dialogue has become catch-phrases between my brother and me.

I don't know what disappointed me most here - Seeing Ariane Ascaride and Gérard Meylan (of Marius and Jeannette fame) involved in this mess or to have a potentially good premise squandered like this. The whole affair is incredibly pretentious, boring and laughable.

By far the worst thing about Code 68 is the acting. Wooden and phoned in don't do it justice. I'd never noticed bad acting before, though God knows I've seen some turkeys in my time. But at least I knew what I was letting myself in for - I have to say this one took me by surprise.

Whenever the "actress" playing the main character of Anne Buridan is on screen, it's painful to watch. We were laughing so hard during the film I remember being afraid we might be asked to leave. Fortunately, the rest of the audience was also laughing / staring at the screen in disbelief.

I usually enjoy films that deal with political matters but the second a character coos "j'enquete sur le lien entre l'intime et le politique" you know you're doomed.
