Enter the Anime (2019)
Netflix Advertisement: The Movie
Personally I don't have that much time invested in anime, but I know its influence and impact on pop culture didn't begin in the late 2010's and wasn't only available on Netflix. It wasn't even trying to hide the fact that it was an ad. The entire format of the documentary was the narrator talking about how different/bizarre/confusing anime is for a 2 minutes followed by a 10 minute ad for a show on Netflix. It was that for 58 minutes. Once the credits roll the text "All anime titles covered in the documentary are available and now streaming on Netflix" show up just in case you haven't picked up on the fact it was an ad.
Besides the fact it was a blatant ad for Netflix, there were other things that made it a lot worse. The editing was horrendous. When there was only a person talking there would be 50 unnecessary close-ups, insert shots, and graphics that made it annoying to look at. There wasn't any point to it. Additionally, the entire "journey" this narrator goes through was so messily done. She begins the documentary by saying she's hoping to get a better insight into the world anime and spends the next 55 minutes being clueless and not learning anything. Then miraculously, at the last few minutes, she just happens to know everything about anime so she can give a vague, oversimplified description of what it is.
Don't watch it.
