Fresh Hell (2021)
Had it on while I did other things.
I felt really badly knowing that someone put a lot of work into this project. I felt as if they thought they were witty when crafting the dialogue. The acting was like a film class. The emotions were not realistic. The last set was nice. I genuinely didn't like the stranger. I suppose I wasn't supposed to like him so that can be considered a win. It was just written over the top from start to finish. It wasn't a slow build. The mystery of it wasn't engaging. I have seen a few other zoom split screen movies. I understand the low budget convenience. The others weren't good either. I am certain it could be done well. The others I saw were also elimination murders.
Family Dinner (2022)
Well done.
Family Dinner is not an exciting movie. The acting is very sincere. I believed the entire time that these actors were their characters.
The lead is pitiable. I dont know if the stone necklace gave her an overload of strength. I am certain it was more strength then her aunt intended.
It is curious why the mother did not know or understand her sister more deeply. I am convinced she meant well to have her daughter visit.
Each character is filled with underlying tension. The exception is the step father. He seems carefree except for a deep dislike for Philip the son. Oh well. You marry the family I suppose.
If you have any level of ADD, I suggest having something to do with your hands during the film. There is quite a bit of foreshadowing. So you could test yourself by taking note of these before they are clearly confirmed.
Also, it might make you hungry.
The Nest (Il nido) (2019)
The house is awesome, the sub-themes are many
The cinematography is good. The characters are emotional. It's very difficult to expect anyone to understand what they have without knowing what its like to have none of it. There are several threads of thought within the film. There is the evil that inhabits those with too much control. There is the desperation that comes with keeping dark secrets. Love is easily distorted when one tells themselves that everything they so is for others. People only ever do what they believe, so what they want. There is a man in this film that enjoys being horrible. He feels he can justify himself by saying it is someone else making the decisions. No one can be like he is without being truly depraved deep inside himself. A sub-theme is the significance of music genres. Music is best enjoyed when all the genres are understood- not just one. Possibly the film can be summarized by saying happiness is best enjoyed while knowing what you do not want.
Stay Out of the Basement (2023)
I give them credit
I always know to appreciate a good comedian, watch bad ones. I have seen much worse film quality and of course top notch. The little girl is amazing. The babysitter is likable as a person. The mom has only line memorization in her tool kit. Staring into a mirror with no change in facial expressions just looks silly. She did a good effort. Its really hard to make a movie scary I suppose without quality lighting and special effects. I know that costs money. So, it shows in this film that effects really matter. The blue lady is the best. I noticed positioning of the camera was well done. They could have done a ton more on the background of the ritual shrine. The goal of the monster could have been more a focus than the evening of babysitting. So the story board was imbalanced. I believed the grub hub guy was a real delivery person and not an actor.
Anne (2018)
It's twisted, but I did knit while viewing
My mom is insane and sits doing nothing
all day everyday . She has the same hairstyle. The actress pegs crazy as bleep. Yhe dolls are a good reflection of 1930 composition (they crack) and early plastic dolls (1940-1950).
If you enjoy torturous continuous tension- this is IT!
There are gross scenes... I covered the screen with my hand up sideways near my eyes. I DID peak.
The ending is a satisfying convolution. It leaves a little for the audience to argue.
To appreciate the crew's tongue in cheek: you must wait PAST the credits to meet each doll. Ha ha! Classic.
So I enjoyed it- but you cant be off your ADD meds watching this crawler.
So. Accurate crazy. Plot twist. Teaser ambiguity...gross scenes. Yup. HORROR!!
You dont need to meet my mom after meeting Anne.
