Green Planet
ICTs are the great enabler of modern society, helping people communicate across distance and across cultural divides, facilitating trade, and providing access to vital resources – especially in health and education. Forecasts estimate that they could help cut emissions by 15 to 40 per cent – by enabling intelligent transport systems, smart buildings and better supply chain management, for example.
During 2009, TelecomTV travelled the world to film a documentary series about Green ICT. From the USA to Bangladesh, the team visited 15 countries to speak with experts and film actual examples of Green ICT in use today. The project sought to highlight the positive role ICT can play in helping with CO2 emission reduction and lower energy use. With the failure of the UN COP15 conference last December to reach a new global treaty, the ICT sector has one more chance to position Information and Communication Technologies as a part of the solution to climate change.
