No Way to Say Goodbye
In 1939, at the dawn of the Holocaust, Bolivia was one of the few countries in the world to allow Jewish immigration. In the city of Cochabamba, there were once more than two thousand Jews. Today, there are less than one hundred. NO WAY TO SAY GOODBYE is the story of this dwindling Jewish community as seen through the eyes of director Jonas Jacobs.
The first documentary about Bolivian Jews, NO WAY TO SAY GOODBYE examines the problems faced by many Jewish communities around the world today, including the declining interest of the youth, generational differences, and the lack of community organization. The film is both an intimate portrait of a community in peril and a quest to define a modern Jewish identity.
