The FURNACE - Badimiya Language Featurette
In making The Furnace, the filmmakers were determined to feature scenes with interactions between Cameleers and Aboroginal characters in the indigenous Badimaya language of the Yamatji Badimia custodians of the Mount Magnet region in WA's stunning Mid West. Without a doubt, this was among the most meaningful dimensions of the entire project. But as this clip explains, achieving this was a delicate task.
Heartfelt thanks to the Bundiyarra Irra Wangga Language Centre for guiding this crucial process, led by lingust James Bednall and Wajarri-Badimia man Godfrey Simpson. And of course, heartfelt thanks the entire Badimia community, who so generously welcomed the filmmakers onto their country, opening their hearts and sharing their beautiful language, which is now being heard all around the world.
