Doorman
A night doorman, Mike Smith, holds watch in the lobby of a luxury apartment building during a harsh Manhattan winter. He kills time watching passerbys shuffling through the cold and listening to his radio, completely isolated and alone. His coworker, Hector, a jovial family man, is Mike’s only contact with the outside world that he has come to despise. A distraught, urban recluse without a telephone or computer, Mike begins to receive anonymous packages in the mail that contain nothing but packing peanuts. As a result of his exclusion from the city and the reoccurring packages, Mike slowly starts losing his ability to comprehend the world around him, hearing unintelligible words and feeling like his brain’s been infected by something inexplicable. “Doorman” is a startling short film about of loneliness, love loss and modern terror.
