The Kingdom of the Eider
Norway. The islands around Vega in Helgeland.
Here for thousands of years Eider ducks have returned each year to make their nests. The ducks pluck the dune from under their feathers to keep the eggs warm.
People have been collecting this dune and making duvet blankets.
Today people live on these islands for a 4 month period, taking care of these birds, and for all their work, they are paid with the dune.
One duvet cost over 5000 Euro.
This is a story of the bird keepers, and the production of the most expensive duvets in the world.
