A Portrait of Linda Smith
A Portrait of Linda Smith, by filmmaker Judi Voye, celebrates Linda SmithÂ’s lifelong dedication to dance and her 40-plus years of commitment to Repertory Dance Theatre. Smith is one of the founding members of Repertory Dance Theatre, a modern dance company based in Salt Lake City and one of the most well established and creative repertory dance companies in America. Founded in 1966, Repertory Dance Theatre serves as a repository of contemporary and historically significant choreography and shares its heritage and passion for modern dance in both performances at home and in tours throughout the United States.
The film also explores the conflicts of balancing an individualÂ’s need for artistic expression against the problems of aging in a physically demanding art form, and the challenges of keeping a dance company alive amidst the realities of AmericaÂ’s constantly changing economic and artistic climate.
