The novelty of the kinetic space battles in SW first translated into television in this series developed by Glen A. Larson. The action sequences used the models of Joe Johnston (effects specialist of SW) and featured a cheaper (TV-friendly) version of the camera techniques used in SW.

Although "Sutaurufu" (or "Star Wolf") was first broadcasted on April 2nd, 1978, and SW only premiered in Japan months later on June 30th, 1978, I find it hard to believe that this Japanese live action sci-fi show (based on the "Starwolf" novels of American genre writer Edmond Hamilton) was not inspired in its visuals by the American movie. Just look at the "stahlhelm"-style headgear of the main villain, the main characters' ship featuring sections eerily similar to the Millenium Falcon's forward window, or the atmospheric dogfight almost identical to the Death Star trench run.
It is worth mentioning that the series was re-edited in the US into two movies in the 80s ("Fugitive Alien" in 1986 and "Star Force - Fugitive Alien II" in 1987), both of which featured multiple times in the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" (FA: the 12th episode of the first, KTMA season & the 10th episode of the third Comedy Central season;SF-FA2: the 3rd episode of the first, KTMA season & the 18th episode of the third Comedy Central season).

Glen A. Larson's other pet project beside "Battlestar Galactica", developed from the 30s and 40s sci-fi adventure comics and serials featuring Buck Rogers. Used techniques similar to Battlestar Galactica, and some of the rejected models from that series were transfered into this one.

Votes: 96,672 | Gross: $82.26M
Although the roots of the Star Trek franchise reach back to the 1960s, it has been suggested that this particular project would probably not been greenlighted without the success of SW in '77, revitalising the trust in big-budget science fiction.

Lucas originally thought about licensing his favorite space hero from his childhood to develop his story into a space fairy tale on the big screen, but it was way too expensive for his budget at the time, so he concieved his own plot in the end. When SW cashed in, however, the license-holders of Flash Gordon started to develop their own movie-project, resulting in... this.

Though it seems to be the mesh-up of the first episodes of the '79 animated series, in reality it more or less represents the original plot idea, before it was turned into the series proper.

Not too bad as an animation, but it resembles the plot of SW a little bit too closely. And our heroes kinda' rape a female robot along the way, so it has that working against it.
