These are mainly classic/well-known programmes that I had always wanted to see. A few are less well known, but are dramas/factual programmes I had meant to view for a long time . . . or, having now watched them, wish I had known about the programme's existence earlier: it was that good!
Some of the series etc. are TV output of which I had previously caught a few snippets or fragments - if I was passing by the TV during broadcasts of the programme - but never had I seen the series or programme in its entirety.

Finally watched in 2021: 5 years after it was first broadcast, but 9 years after the 'Jack Irish' character was first brought to television.
S1 was far better than the 3 earlier TV films, which were great entertainment in themselves. The series improved upon the 1-off dramas mainly because the 6 episodes gave the storyteller more time to tell the tale than the limited framework of a 1½h TV drama. S1 was punchy, with a gripping story, & well-paced. Great viewing.
Sadly S2 became over-detailed & rambling: too many sub- & sub-sub-plots. Plus the old trope of a troubled female youth for the lead male character to 'adopt'. I was bored & irritated - let alone disappointed - by the end of episode 2. So I had to reduce the series to an IMDb star-rating of 8, after giving it a 9 after S1. Shame . . .
Roll on S3: hopefully this will return the series to the classy finish of S1.

And when I went a-hunting the ultimate episode, to watch it online, back in 2014, it wasn't on the channel Web-player! All the other episodes of 'Derek' were available, but not this Christmas Special. Arghh! ,-D
So it was first watched way later, in 2023: 9 years after the TV comedy episode was originally released.
And it was well worth the wait!

Unknown to me till I came across it on an online player. A piece of 1990s' lad/backpack travelling culture. Somewhat 'mehhhh' in quality. Could have been better made. Only a 6.5 out of 10 (if I could rate at IMDb in half-points!). But good to see the great Alan Davies in something that was new to me. And good to see a TV programme that utilises a technique that is a variant of breaking the fourth wall, rather like 'Peep Show' did years later.

Not a patch on the British version, made 6 years earlier. And that series was way too short, at only 4 episodes in total. A sad truncation. :-(
The UK version was far truer to the quirkiness of the author Douglas Adams - and as he is after all a British writer, this whimsy is prevalent throughout his writing. THIS version from the USA has a far larger - too varied - cast, near-gross violence, & much less comedy. It loses the story both its offbeat eccentricity, and its sense of a small community of friends and cohorts muddling along together in the strangest of circumstances. A diminution of nearly everything that makes Adams' book 'DGHDA' so brilliant.
I gave the UK version 9/10, & it was worth it even with only 4 episodes. THIS series? . . . Well, I stopped watching it after just 2 episodes! :-/

Unknown to me till I came across it on an online player. A piece of 1990s' lad culture. But a good script makes the basic premise more appealing. It is a mainstream comedy/sitcom expected of the Channel 4 output, but with an extra edge of very clever wit.
An above-adequate product: a 9 out of 10. So good to see the great Frank Skinner in something that was new to me. Plus it was great to see the series' script was written by the clever comedian himself.
It was also interesting to see an example of a TV programme that utilises breaking the fourth wall. Plus I have never heard F.S. sing anything other than the 'Three Lions (Football's Coming Home)' soccer anthem of 1996+ - so this series' songs were a treat! Not to mention the delight of seeing several early - or first! - roles by now household names. Including the talented comedian-musician Bill Bailey in what was only his second on-screen role . . . & dressed as a giant football mascot, a feathered bird! :-D

BTW, only watched as far as the first 2 episodes of series 2, as I found the drama had at that point greatly changed style from series 1, and had lost its enjoyable qualities. I DID skim-watch the rest of the series, as I was intrigued to see just how out-there the drama became, but with little attention. Ditto I skim-watched the 1-off follow-up special set in Poland - 'A Very Polish Practice' - made 4 years after the main series ended. Those superficial viewings of the remaining episodes gave me all the answers I was expecting: the drama had become largely unpleasant and - more importantly - far less funny & entertaining.
But I am glad I had a chance to view this 'classic' series at last.
