Mystery shows contain numerous inter-related scenes of one or more characters endeavoring to widen their knowledge of anything pertaining to themselves or others. They are usually, but not always, associated with the crime genre (imdb.com).
Mystery series revolve around the solution of a problem or a crime. They focus on the efforts of the detective, private investigator or amateur sleuth to solve the mysterious circumstances of an issue by means of clues, investigation, and clever deduction (wikipedia.org).
Mystery shows can often be connected to the crime genre, but may not involve or use law enforcement or the justice system as the main characters or backdrop for the story. A mystery show is defined by the plot, and both the character’s and the viewer’s relationship with the motivations and reality behind the events that occur (studiobinder.com).
