Based on the novel Dellamorte Dellamore by Tiziano Sclavi, Cemetery Man was directed by Michele Soavi from a screenplay by Gianni Romoli. The film has the following synopsis: Something is causing the dead to rise from their graves as flesh-eating zombies, and cemetery custodian Francesco Dellamorte grows tired of killing them all for the second time. However, the town politicians won’t listen to him, so Francesco is on his own. One day, he falls for a beautiful woman whose husband has recently died — but their affair is tragically interrupted by zombies, sending Francesco into a tailspin of madness and woe.

"No one can be trusted in this village." Lionsgate has released a trailer for a very cheesy Italian action film titled The Tracker, made by filmmaker Giorgio Serafini. The film stars Dolph Lundgren, completing his move away from anything with any real substance or worthwhile content, into the world of campy Italian B-movies. He's already been there for a while, but why not churn out a few more of these films for no one to watch. What is this one about? A mysterious stranger travels to a remote village where, 15 years earlier, his wife and daughter were kidnapped. Lundgren plays some kind of veteran marksman who gets revenge on the criminals who took his family. Also starring Cosimo Fusco, Anna Falchi, Marta Gastini, Bruno Bilotta, and Marco Mazzoli. This film looks as forgettable as they come, not even worth it for Lundgren. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Giorgio Serafini's The Tracker,...

Last month Scorpion Releasing, in partnership with Doppelganger Releasing, put out a pair of Italian horror gems on Blu-ray from director Michele Soavi, and it's a great time to rediscover this filmmaker and the early work that led to one of the greatest horror films of the '90s, Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetery Man). Before partnering up with Rupert Everett, François Hadji-Lazaro, and Anna Falchi to create that supremely romantic horror nightmare, Soavi worked as an assistant director to Dario Argento in the early '80s on films like Phenomena and later on Lamberto Bava's Demons. These jobs led to his first feature film as a director, Stagefright, which remains a classic of '80s Italian horror. Less well known are the two films that followed, The Sect and The...

Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetery Man) (Demons ’95) (Of Death, of Love)
Directed by Michele Soavi
Written by Gianni Romoli
Italy / France / Germany, (1996)
Let’s just get this out of the way. Michele Soavi’s Cemetery Man is one of the three best Italian horror films ever made. Based on the wildly popular Italian comic book Dellamorte, Dellamore from Tiziano Sclavi’s Dylan Dog series, Cemetery Man is compelling, bizarre, and downright entertaining from start to finish. Technically a zombie film, but not really, Soavi’s avant-garde gothic flick weaves in so many unexpected directions, that it is quite unlike any horror film made before or after. This surreal fantasy from the director of Deliria (1987) unfolds like a very weird dream and never stops moving, twisting and turning its way to a beautifully rendered existential climax. You can take it as a horror picture or a black/comedy or a story about friendship,...

April Showers each night!
Have you ever seen Cemetery Man (1994), a schlocky Italian horror flick from 1994 starring Rupert Everett as the titular character? He fends off pesky zombies including his lover (the busty Anna Falchi) with some regularity.
Despite my long dormant Everett fandom (I was there right at the beginning with Another Country / Dance With a Stranger), I've still never seen this one all the way through. I was just thinking about this because I was in Nashville and some years ago when I juried there with Nick Davis, who loves the movie, he showed me pieces of it.
Everett's character Francesco Dellamorte apparently takes a lot of showers and apparently he's used to getting attacked by zombies -- just part of the job. more... But on this particular night in the movie they come earlier than expected. The lights go out in the shower, he sees one approaching...

The Film:
The Italian comic series created by Tiziano Sclavi received an adaptation once before in the last great Italian film, Dellamorte Dellamore (aka Cemetery Man) in 1994. Although it was a loose translation, director Michele Soavi’s film is a wonder. It’s creepy, sexy, and darkly humorous, a rare blend of genre-bending that horror fans have properly applauded. While Dylan Dog: Dead of Night is a more strict adaptation of the comic, and is tonally different than Dellamorte Dellmore, but that doesn’t make it a lesser attempt, just a rather different one.
While it has a feeling of being rather small scale in scope, comparisons will happen and Dylan Dog is no Dellamorte Dellmore. Of course the most glaring omission is the lack of Anna Falchi’s amazingly perfect huge breasts, Dylan Dog doesn’t strike that surreal cord, but comes off as a creature feature in the...

Did I just say that the discovery of previously-lost Blue Velvet scenes was the best news of the day [1]? Well, it still is, but running a close second is the revelation that Italian director Michele Soavi might be returning to horror, and that his vehicle could be a sequel to his awesome 1994 existential zombie movie Dellamorte Dellamore, aka Cemetery Man. If you don't know that movie, then chew on this: he also mentions a Goonies-like movie that might star Nicolas Cage. Fangoria [2] talked to producer and director Dario Argento (for whom Mr. Soavi once worked as an assistant director and actor) who said, Michele has told me that he has started to write the script for a special horror project he plans to shoot between the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012: a sequel to his Gothic masterpiece Dellamorte Dellamore, a.k.a. Cemetery Man... He’s going to...

There are a few cult movies that should be viewed by any true genre fan, and Dellamorte Dellamore (aka Cemetery Man) is on that list. At least for anyone interested in zombies, Euro weirdness, and the spectacular nakedness of Anna Falchi. The 1994 original from director Michele Soavi starred Rupert Everett as Francesco Dellamorte, a graveyard attendant in a sleepy Italian town where the corpses don't stay in the ground. He finds love in the drool-inducing form of a mysterious woman, but...

Have any of y'all seen Cemetery Man?
It's a schlocky Italian horror flick from 1994 starring Rupert Everett as the titular character who has to fend off zombies including his lover (the busty Anna Falchi) with some regularity. Despite my longtime Everett fandom (I've been with him since the Another Country/ Dance With a Stranger), I've never seen this one. Nick, who loves the movie, showed me the shower sequence while we were in Nashville on account of this here series.
Everett's character Francesco Dellamorte apparently takes a lot of showers and apparently he's used to getting attacked by zombies -- just part of the job. But on this night they come earlier than expected. The lights go out in the shower, he sees one approaching in shadow (shower curtains = scary in movies), and then the zombies, in what looks like boy scout uniforms -- tee hee -- begin to attack.
