For basketball fans already mourning the potential loss of TNT’s Inside the NBA, there may be some small consolation: NBC may bring back John Tesh’s iconic “Roundball Rock.”
NBCU is reportedly set to bid $2.5 a year for rights to NBA games going forward, according to the Wall Street Journal. If the offer is successful, the company would supplant media rival Warner Bros. Discovery, whose TBS and TNT cable networks began carrying NBA games in 1988. TNT has been the flagship Turner network associated with pro basketball, with its Inside the NBA the gold standard of sports studio shows, since 1989.
The NBA’s other two partners in its next contract are said to be Disney and Amazon’s Prime Video.
If NBC is successful in securing the third slot, it would likely mean the end of the Emmy-winning Inside the NBA, much to the chagrin of sports fans. But when one door closes,...

It isn’t yet clear whether NBC will walk away with rights to NBA games beginning next year (the league is still holding talks with current rightsholder Warner Bros. Discovery, though NBC made an aggressive bid for its package).
But one thing is now clear: “Roundball Rock” will be making a comeback.
The song, composed by John Tesh, was the anthem of The NBA on NBC from 1990 until the network lost NBA rights in 2002.
Tesh was a guest on The Dan Le Batard Show Tuesday, and he was asked whether the network had reached out to him about re-licensing the song.
“They have, actually, yeah,” Tesh said when asked by the radio host about a reach-out from the network. “Nothing firm, but they said, ‘Hey, can you stay frosty on this?’ like a Navy SEALs thing.”
In fact, Tesh added that he was planning to re-record “Roundball Rock” next month,...

A new report indicates sources in the sports and media world are increasingly convinced the NBA is about to depart TNT.
So will there be a new version of “Roundball Rock,” or will NBC just dust off the John Tesh original starting in 2025? That decision could be on the minds of Comcast executives these days, as they attempt to win a package of NBA rights in the basketball league’s next national broadcasting deal. The company has lodged a $2.5 billion per year bid for a bundle that would include regular season and playoff games, but it has to worry about a challenge from Warner Bros. Discovery, which has been broadcasting NBA games for nearly 35 years. A new report from the Sports Business Journal reveals that NBC is currently in the lead NBA’s third parcel of games, and details how messy the fight between the two contenders just might get.

A fresh-faced comedian walks through New York after having woken up and feeding his fish. He's got a nearly beatific smile on his face as he's wished good luck and almost instantly told by those same people (with sarcastic tones) that there's no pressure, because he's been chosen to replace one of the most beloved comedians to ever grace the small screen. He's tall, lanky, with a shock of red hair, and he's just barely reached the age of 30. Everyone from John Tesh to Tom Brokaw to passers-by give him some version of these remarks ("Ya better be as good as Letterman!"), and he takes them all in good stride. He walks into 30 Rockefeller Center, gets ready for his first TV hosting gig, taking over the "Late Night" show on NBC at 12:35 am. He walks into his dressing room, where he proceeds to attempt hanging himself. It's only when...

Lauren Shuler Donner, the wife and sometimes producing partner of husband Richard Donner, who died Monday at age 91, was understandably emotional when I spoke with her today. She expressed sadness at the loss, as well as sympathy for the loss of movie lovers everywhere who were fans of Superman, The Omen, The Goonies, Ladyhawke, Scrooged, the Lethal Weapon movies, Maverick, 1997’s now oddly-timelier Conspiracy Theory and countless others including those he produced like Free Willy, The Lost Boys and X-Men. No question Dick Donner was a giant, and widely admired as you can probably tell from the outpouring of reaction on Deadline.
Steven Spielberg, for whom Donner made the aforementioned The Goonies, called him “the greatest Goonie of them all”.
“He was a great man. I was a very very lucky woman.

On October 5th, “Weird Al” Yankovic’s eighth album, Alapalooza, turned 25. Though one of his less iconic albums, it nonetheless went gold, spawning the modest hit “Bedrock Anthem” and one of his more ambitious videos. The clip for “Jurassic Park,” a parody of the 1968 Richard Harris epic “MacArthur Park,” was a claymation extravaganza, co-directed by animator Scott Nordlund and future Kung Fu Panda director Mark Osbourne.

Al Yankovic can be described in a lot of ways besides "Weird." Most people know that he's a chart-topping singer-songwriter, a director-producer, a top-notch parodist, an author and a die-hard polka enthusiast. Even those who have followed his career closely, however, may have forgotten he was, for a brief moment, the host of a short-lived children's television show.
The Weird Al Show debuted on CBS on September 13, 1997 as part of their Saturday morning lineup. Each episode began with the all important "today's lesson" before viewers were invited into Yankovic's underground...

Growing up a closeted gay kid with minimal athletic ability in the Reagan-era South, television was my salvation. TV Guide was my Bible. Ricky Schroder and David Hasselhoff were my Messiahs. Still, I never dared to dream that one day I might have my own TV show. The only person from my hometown that had ever made it in Hollywood was John Tesh, and I was no John Tesh. My parents both loved their work, and they encouraged me to find that for myself. I taught sixth grade in Mexico, chasing adventure. I worked as an ad exec in New

So here’s one that brings back a lot of memories, and to this day I can’t decide if I like this clip or hate it. As you all might remember, John Tesh was pretty big time back in the late 80s and early 90s for his role in being one of the co-anchors of Entertainment Tonight. As his popularity rose, Tesh was also honing in on his piano skills. He parlayed his stardom in a new career in music. Tesh definitely knows how to hit the keys. So one day at a concert of his he was giving this silly

A version of this story first appeared in the April 4 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. When John Tesh walked away from Entertainment Tonight in 1996, he disappeared from the national TV stage. But Tesh never quit working. He has performed 30 or more concerts a year and since 2003 has hosted (with his wife, actress Connie Sellecca, and stepson, Gib Gerard) a syndicated radio show on about 800 stations billed as Intelligence for Your Life. Now, Tesh, 61, is returning to TV with a daily syndicated talk show, also called Intelligence for Your Life, and a business plan

06/06 Update: Official version below replacing the terrible "Entertainment Tonight" preview.06/05: "Hey, you know what would be a good idea? Let's premiere the trailer for our hot new movie with Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake, and let the airheads on 'Entertainment Tonight' talk over most of it!" Okay, no one actually said that sentence, but sometimes you have to wonder what marketing departments are thinking. That said, here's part of the first trailer for the thriller "Runner Runner," brought to you by the people who aren't even John Tesh and Mary Hart. Anyway, the film, penned by David Levien and Brian Koppelman ("Rounders"), and directed by Brad Furman ("The Lincoln Lawyer") will tell the story of a Princeton student who gets cheated out of his tuition playing online poker, but winds up as the right hand man of the dude running the site. But that dude is a...

Welcome to another set of complete reviews in which I attempt to prattle on about two of the most famous Joss Whedon creations: Buffy The Vampire Slayer (1997-2003) and Angel (1999-2004).
On the surface of it, a TV series franchise stemming from a so-so movie about a teenage girl who stakes vampires doesn't inspire much confidence. In 1992, the film, Buffy The Vampire Slayer pitted Kristy Swanson as the eponymous heroine against a mean old vampire king called Lothos and his motley crew of blood-sucking fiends. The movie didn't exactly set the world ablaze, staked by lukewarm reviews and moderate box office takings.
Writer Joss Whedon was nothing if not persistent though. Translating the original concept to the small screen was something of a gamble, given the tepid reactions to the preceding film. How could it possibly work?
And yet, sixteen years later, Buffy is still a huge phenomenon. Seven seasons were produced.

Dancing With the Stars has never been my bag, but the reality juggernaut boasts three big perks: 1) Tom Bergeron is and always has been an exceptional host, and it's nice to see the veteran of Hollywood Squares and the cult FX talk show Breakfast Time helm a hit series with Emmy-winning flair; 2) Carrie Ann Inaba is a great judge; 3) Excepting So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing With the Stars has given us the hottest men in reality TV history. Saturday Night Live continued its host hot streak as Louis C.K. took the stage and dominated this weekend's show.
Embracing the kind of warped normalcy that permeates his Emmy-winning FX series, Louie, gave SNL the license to be more irreverent and inspired than normal (see: Hotel Fees). I had the great pleasure of attending the dress rehearsal this weekend, which allowed me to see an extra 30 minutes of sketches that never made it to air as the cast produces more material than can fit in the 90 minute show and uses the dress rehearsal audience as a litmus test for laughter.

Like many things on Oprah’s show, this sounds like a soap opera plot, but it’s actually the real deal – Oprah Winfrey recently discovered that she has a half-sister she never knew about, and they had a big, tearful reunion on the show this week.
Her sister’s name is Patricia, she’s nine years younger than Oprah, and according to Oprah, she never even knew her mother was pregnant. It’s difficult enough to imagine what an emotional thing it must be to find your family, no matter who they end up being, but to discover that your sister is Oprah? That’s just crazy. It’s like winning the lottery twice in a row!

The former English teacher from Sioux Falls, S.D., joined "Entertainment Tonight" in 1982, working most prominently with John Tesh. She's kept the job as the entertainment news industry grew around her. "Et" is the original entertainment newsmagazine and still leads in the ratings. No replacement has been named. One...

Kitty Kelley’s scandalous, very unauthorized Oprah Winfrey biography will be getting the movie treatment, EW has confirmed. Oprah: A Biography has been optioned by Larry Thompson, who brought us biopics about Lucy and Desi Arnaz, Sonny and Cher, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor — with the project on track to debut around the same time as Winfrey’s Sept. 2011 sign-off. The book, which Winfrey dismissed as a “so-called biography,” included hints at drug use, a secret birth father, and a liaison with John Tesh in the talk queen’s past — so while it won’t likely get...

Let me start by saying I am a huge Conan O'Brien fan. Huge. So much so that if he had no choice but to broadcast his show from a cockroach-infested 7-Eleven on the wrong side of the tracks -- or in a turkey pen with John Tesh -- I would still tune in every night. So that's precisely why I'm a tad worried about Coco's 60 Minutes interview this Sunday. According to early transcripts that have circulated, Conan is quite candid when discussing January's late-night fiasco, saying that if he were Leno, he would not have taken The Tonight Show back: "I know me,...

Oprah Winfrey's never been one to toss around the diss. Needless to say, on the rare occasion she does, it's packed with sizzle. And a whole lotta class. Last week, author Kitty Kelley released a book on the media maven, alleging that Winfrey rules by fear, used drugs, has a secret birth father and even dated John Tesh. Oprah: A Biography also did nothing to halt the infamous gay rumors. Still, the usually loquacious Winfrey was mum on the subject. Well, until yesterday. Oprah was in New York City to present a New York Women in Communication Matrix Award to Bff Gayle King and took the opportunity to coolly admit what she really thinks of that book, calling it a "so-called...

Seriously, if the worst things Kitty Kelley could dig up about Oprah Winfrey is that she used to date John Tesh and has misrepresented certain aspects of her past, we'll pass on reading all 544 pages of Kelley's unauthorized biography.
Oprah herself doesn't seem to be too worried about the book since she happily poked fun at it while delivering a speech at the Matrix Awards (where her best friend Gayle King was being honored).
"Last week was a rough week for Gayle when a so-called biography came out," Oprah said. "Every day she's getting herself more and more worked up about all of my new daddies that are now showing up. New daddies who are saying, 'Hello daughter, call me, I need a new roof.' Well, this too shall pass."
We kind of think it already has.

Somewhere, Frank Sinatra's steamed. And so are we. When the Chairman of the Board got the Kitty Kelley treatment, we got first-class dirt—ham and eggs off the chest of a prostitute, anyone? Now it's Oprah Winfrey's turn, and we get—what? A relationship with John Tesh? A "volcanic" affair with a radio DJ? Rumors of "giggly late-night phone calls" to Diane Sawyer? For this, Kelley's been shunned by the talk-show circuit? Seriously? To be honest, we haven't exactly read the just-released Oprah: A Biography, unless going over the rundowns and thumbing through the index during lunchtime at Barnes & Noble counts. But from what we understand—and just so you...

Kitty Kelley's upcoming unauthorized biography Oprah: A Biography has been making headlines, even though it doesn't offer too many shocking revelations about the media mogul. But Kelly did manage to unearth one of Oprah's past relationships. According to Kelley, Oprah and former Entertainment Tonight anchor John Tesh were romantically involved in the 70s. New York, April 13 – After investigative journalist Kitty Kelley claimed in her new book that pianist/composer John Tesh bolted on Oprah Winfrey in the middle of the night, he has confirmed that he had once dated the talk show host.
Tesh, 57, revealed on April 12 that he and Winfrey, 56, dated for awhile when they first started out as reporters.

It’s true that Oprah and John Tesh used to date. The 57-year-old Tesh says he and the 56-year-old Winfrey dated while working in local news in Nashville, Tenn.
According to Kitty Kelley’s new unauthorized biography of Oprah Winfrey, in the 70’s Oprah slept with musician and television celebrity John Tesh. However, Kitty’s tell-all book also reveals that John Tesh bolted on lover Oprah Winfrey in middle of the night.
The book reports that the 6′ 6″ tall Tesh said one night that “he looked down and saw his white body next to her black body and couldn’t take it anymore,” another Tesh ex-paramour told Kelley.
John has not commented on the book’s explanation for their separation, but did tell “Entertainment Tonight” he and Oprah remain good friends.

Matt Lauer sat down to chat with "Oprah: A Biography" writer Kitty Kelley on "Today" Monday morning (April 12). According to Kelley, Barbara Walters, Larry King, Rachel Ray, Charlie Rose and David Letterman will not be extending her the same invitation.
"This book is like high definition television," Kelley tells Lauer. "[Oprah fans] know the story, the outlines of the story, but this gives them greater detail, more understanding."
And it's that "greater detail" (like the Oprah-John Tesh live-in romance) that Kelley explains has made media folks like Walters and King hesitant to interview her -- for fear of the possible backlash from the all-powerful Oprah.
Letterman's response to her publisher's request to come on his show was that he didn't want to "disrupt" his recently mended relationship with the talk show queen.

Yeah, yeah, we know. You've watched her talk show every day for almost 24 years, you have a lifetime subscription to O, you're a charter member of her book club, and you've TiVo'd every teary made-for-tv movie she's put her name above the title of. Here are the CliffsNotes (or should that be Tesh Notes?): • She hooked up with John Tesh. Yeah, that John Tesh. Before there was Stedman Graham (whom a source in the book calls "boring as hell"), there was Teshy. Back in the mid-'70s, prior to his entrée into New Age born-again...

New York, April 12 – A tell-all book on talk show host Oprah Winfrey has revealed that her lover musician John Tesh had walked out on her in the middle of the night.
According to Kitty Kelley’s upcoming biography, Tesh, 57, took off in the middle of the night because his interracial relationship with Winfrey, 56, was too much to handle.
An exclusive excerpt from the biography claims the talk-show queen, who was barely out-of-her-teens, enjoyed a 1970s live-in romance with Tesh, and they both shared.

Oprah Winfrey had been dumped by Christian music composer and radio host John Tesh, it has been claimed in a new book. Biographer Kitty Kelley's tell-all book about the media mogul reveals that Tesh bolted on Winfrey in the middle of the night out of "social pressure."
According to the excerpts of the book obtained by New York Daily News, the unlikely couple lived together in the '70s when Winfrey was barely out of her teens. But the "social pressure" on an interracial couple in Tennessee was too much for Tesh, prompting him to leave the daytime queen of talk in the middle of the night.
An ex-lover told Kelley, "He said one night he looked down and saw his white body next to her black body and couldn't take it anymore."
"He walked out in the middle of the night….He told me he later felt very guilty about it.

Kitty Kelley, famous for her scathing celebrity biographies, has set her gaze on the queen of the world media, Oprah Winfrey. Kelley's book, Oprah: A Biography, comes out on Tuesday, April 13 and it's already ranked in the top 20 books on Amazon.
While the bio promises to be the most in depth tome of Lady O ever, there's one item that has us both staring in amazement and screaming with horror. Winfrey once carried on a live-in romance with Hollywood's jack-of-all-trades, John Tesh!
The New York Daily News got an exclusive excerpt from the book that describes Winfrey's relationship with Tesh when she was a TV reporter in Nashville in her early-twenties. The two shared her apartment when he was a news anchor at another local TV station.
The juicy part is that Tesh apparently just couldn't handle being in an interracial relationship with the rising star during those racist times.

A new tell-all book links Oprah with John Tesh!
An excerpt from author Kitty Kelley’s upcoming tell-all book about Oprah links the media queen with none other than musician and news anchor John Tesh, New York’s Daily News is reporting. The couple’s reported affair took place in the ’70s, while Oprah was living in Tennessee, and John’s alleged shame over being involved in an interracial affair is what Kitty says caused the eventual break-up. Quoting one of John’s exes, Kitty writes, “He said one night he looked down and saw his white body next to her black body and couldn’t take it anymore.”
Kitty’s book, simply titled Oprah: A Biography, hits shelves April 13.
