Warhol and Dalí loved it – but Luminous Procuress, Steven Arnold’s trippy sex film, was never widely released. Now on Blu-ray, it offers a rare glimpse into the artist’s esoteric world
The late 1960s and early 70s was a fecund time for US cinema, but not every revolutionary film from that period has achieved the hallowed status of a Mean Streets or a Badlands. One, at least, has been lost for almost half a century. Emerging out of San Francisco’s countercultural Haight-Ashbury scene, Luminous Procuress is an enigmatic, transgressive and gleefully queer journey to the divine state of enlightenment lurking just beyond the carnal. And you can’t say that about The Godfather.

Nearly six years ago, “Rams,” a touching humanist drama from Iceland directed and written by Grímur Hákonarson, won hearts — and prizes — at the Cannes Film Festival. Now, in trots “Rams,” an Australian remake, directed by Jeremy Sims (“Last Cab to Darwin”). Adapted with winning cultural specificity by former newsman Jules Duncan, it’s longer and more broadly comic than the Icelandic version and boasts a tacked on, feel-good ending. Beloved Antipodean stars Sam Neill and Michael Caton play the two estranged brothers who must pull together to save what is dearest to them: their sheep.
Although they have not spoken to one another for 40 years, Colin (Neill) and older brother Les (Caton) Grimurson live on neighboring stud farms in a valley near Mount Barker, Western Australia. The spectacularly scenic landscape with its nearby mountains and beaches as well as baking hot summers and bush fires becomes a fateful character in the action.

In 1966, after six years of existence, the Canyon Cinema experimental film collective of San Francisco, California started its own cooperative distribution center, first listing films in the November ’66 issue of their News newsletter, in which they stated that they would be following in the footsteps of New York City’s Film-Makers’ Cooperative that had been distributing underground films since 1962.
This origin of the Canyon Cinema cooperative is covered in Scott MacDonald’s exhaustive history of the organization, in which he lays out the timeline of publication of the first two catalogs:
November 1966: Canyon lists films to rent in their News publication
December 1966: Canyon Cinema Cooperative Catalog, Number 1

After nine eventful series, ITV's Dancing on Ice finally hangs up its skates this Sunday (March 9).
Since its launch on January 14, 2006, the show has given us some truly memorable comedic moments - with Todd Carty's stumble off the rink in series four certainly springing to mind.
As ITV prepares to broadcast the last televised Bolero performance from Olympian duo Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean and crown its final pair of winners, we present ten facts about Dancing on Ice in celebration of all things icy and sparkly.
1. Since 2006, Torvill and Dean have taught an incredible 111 different celebrities, comprising a total of 700 choreographed routines and a staggering 260 days on the ice. This all amounts to a grand total of 3,432 hours spent coaching. Somebody give them another medal!
2. Alongside all this training and coaching, the Olympic champions have also performed 90 different routines themselves for the show over the nine years.

On the other side of my content filled posts for Sound on Sight, I manage a semi-popular Tumblr blog called Obscure and Offbeat Cinema. There is virtually no written content and the vast majority of what I present are screenshots taken from films that I’m watching or planning to watch. Though a popular film will sneak in now and then, the focus remains on films that are off the beaten path. With over 3000 images posted in 2012, I thought it would be interesting to single out my favourite shots seen for the first time this year and share them with you. This link is quite obviously unique to my own cinematic experience of 2012, as well as my own personal quirks and aesthetic obsessions, so you might not agree with all of the choices. I also warn, this list may not be Safe for Work and in the case of objectionable...

Coronation Street star Chris Gascoyne has revealed that his character Peter Barlow will be pushed to the edge as he is haunted by the memories of Weatherfield's tram crash disaster. Fans already know that there are troubles ahead for Peter and it has now been confirmed that the upcoming first anniversary of the crash drives him to a desperate state. Peter was in The Joinery bar when it was destroyed in the incident last December. Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold) later died while trying to save the bookmaker. Gascoyne told Soaplife of the new storyline: "Every time that night's mentioned, it brings up feelings that he really doesn't want to surface. He's never confronted what happened that night. The anniversary pushes him to an all-time low." Peter's turmoil begins when Emily Bishop (Eileen Derbyshire) asks him to make (more)...

Meanwhile, the mystery fourth death was later confirmed to be a taxi driver and father-of-three who was mentioned by firefighters in the drama's one-hour live episode. View the original post Dancing On Ice: Nadia Sawalha doesn’t like new format changes on Unreality TV
Nadia Sawalha thinks that the producers of ‘Dancing On Ice’ have gone “too far” with their format changes.
The 47-year-old TV personality – who was eliminated from the ITV1 series in the first week of the competition – thinks that the celebrities should refuse to vote each other off on Sunday night’s results show.
She told Bang Showbiz: “I was really excited about the prospect of it being edgier this year, but I actually think it’s gone too far. To get people to turn against one another like that is not nice at all. I don’t agree with it and if I was still in it I wouldn’t have done that.
“I’ll be interested to see what happens if people refuse to do it; will they sack them?...

The former ‘Coronation Street’ actor – who became the fifth celebrity to be voted off the ITV1 show last night (23.01.11) – admitted while the audience did distract him from his skating routine, he felt judges Jason Gardiner, Emma Bunton and Robin Cousins were too “harsh” by awarding just seven points for his effort.
He explained: “You get out there and you hear the crowd shouting stuff. It does side-track you a little bit.”

View the original post Dancing On Ice: Judges slate Steven Arnold after Torvill and Dean no show! on Unreality TV
Steven Arnold was in the bad books after the first Dancing On Ice show.
After making his skating debut on the ITV competition, Steven went out, allegedly got drunk and slept through his Monday morning alarm, meaning that he missed his choreography appointment with Torvill and Dean.
Thankfully, he did turn up for Tuesday’s rehearsals and was ready to attack his routine when he emerged onto the rink tonight.
The improvement in Arnolds skating was noticeable. He’s not a natural mover but he did manage some lifts and independent skating which we enjoyed watching. He does need to be faster on the ice, as my toddler can crawl faster than he skates and at times he was unsteady but we think it could have been a lot worse.

Keep reading to find out what Jason Gardiner, Emma Bunton and Robin Cousins thought of the contestants' debuts on the ice:
Steven Arnold ('House Of Fun') Jason: (2) "For me you didn't sustain the routine. I could see you were relying on your partner, but you have to be the male presence in the act. Good characterisation, but you lost it halfway through for me."
Robin: (3) "He will come back next week because he has a huge fanbase that will vote for him, and they need to as he can skate better than that, as we saw in the dress rehearsal. The nerves took over, but you have a great personality and I love the fun partnership.

The former Spice Girl insists that the fact she is pregnant with her second child, won’t make her more warm and fuzzy, adding that now there are only three judges, she will be taking the time to share her opinions in full.

Dean wasn’t surprised by the incident. He admitted that so far he has been impressed by Hamilton’s courage on the ice, describing her as a “speed demon” who “really attacks it”.
Kerry Katona is also said to be suffering. Insiders say the troubled star has cracked two ribs during her recent training.

Steven Arnold has admitted that he has lost over a stone since signing up to Dancing On Ice.
The former Coronation Street actor has been training every day since he first agreed to perform on the ITV show and confessed that he has changed his whole lifestyle in recent months.
The squeaky voiced star said:
I will be totally honest with you, I’ve not had a can of fizzy pop for about six weeks and all I’ve drank is water with the odd cup of tea now and again as a treat. Kerry Katona will reportedly be the highest paid celebrity on the 2011 series of Dancing On Ice.
Sources suggest the troubled reality TV star will receive a whopping £60,000 for competing on the ITV show, even though she may not get past the first round. In a twist this year, viewers will be allowed to eliminate four of the sixteen celebrities, before they even take to the ice.
Also topping the list of high earners, Loose Women’s Denise Welch and former Coronation Street actor Steven Arnold will both bring in £50,000.
The News Of The World reports that most other stars (including Richard and Judy’s daughter Chloe Madeley) will be paid £40,000 but three minor skaters (EastEnder’s actor Sam Attwater, Nickolodeon host Laura Hamilton and Chris Moyles’ Radio 1 sidekick “Comedy Dave” Vitty) will receive a paltry £20,000 for the show’s duration.

Coronation Street fans have now seen the last of the soap's 50th anniversary deaths, Digital Spy can confirm. Last week, viewers saw Ashley Peacock (Steven Arnold), Molly Dobbs (Vicky Binns) and Charlotte Hoyle (Becky Hindley) all perish as the soap marked its milestone with seven special episodes which saw disaster hit the cobbles.
