Cirkus
Just how awful is Cirkus? Hard to measure mediocrity of this level. It is like asking, how bad was the homicide ? Or the car crash?
Speaking of which, there are no cars crashing midair on Rohit Shetty’s new frighteningly unfair fare. It is meant to be a comedy. But I didn’t find a single moment of laughter in the lengthy one-note joke about two sets of twins and mistaken identity. But then I am not qualified to appreciate hitmaker Ro-hit’s sense of humour. I didn’t think much of Golmaal either. But yes, if slapstick means slapping around the characters then Cirkus passes the lit-mast test.
Sanjay Mishra gets slapped at least 4-5 times. Other characters also get the thappad regularly. It is like the slap rather than the slapstick is the standing joke in a film that chokes on its own jokes and doesn’t...

RohitVerse
Rohit Shetty has created his own Universe, should we call it RohitVerse? The last scene of Cirkus brings a wide smile and takes you back to Rohit Shetty’s claim to fame ‘Golmaal’ franchise. How I wish if he can come up with a film based on this (you have to watch the last scene). Coming back to what you are here for and that is yet again a part of the RohitVerse with most characters that you have seen in previous Rohit Shetty films probably leaving aside just the two leading ladies (Pooja Hegde and Jacqueline Fernandez). After Ajay Devgn, it seems we will get to see Ranveer Singh too as a fixture in RohitVerse.
Cirkus
Set in the late 1960s and said to be inspired from Shakespeare’s ‘The Comedy of Errors’, which was earlier adapted by Gulzar as Angoor (1982) featuring Sanjeev Kumar and Deven Verma in double roles.

‘The Bard of Avon’ can never go wrong. The timeless Shakespeare, 400-plus years after he entertained Queen Elizabeth I and her courtiers, continues to resonate in different ways with each generation. And his ‘Comedy of Errors’ has been a favourite of Bollywood filmmakers.
After Kishore Kumar’s ‘Do Dooni Chaar’ and Sanjeev Kumar’s ‘Angoor’ and a few other forgettable adaptations, comes Rohit Shetty’s ‘Cirkus’, featuring Ranveer Singh playing two sets of identical twins who are accidentally separated at birth. Sadly, though, Bollywood is as bad at adapting as it is at conceiving fresh ideas.
So, what does the film have to offer? Old gags, insufferable jokes, bad acting and a plot that just doesn’t take off. Even when writers Farhad Samji, Sanchit Bedre and Vidhi Ghodgaonkar attempt to Indianise the much-amended tale,...

Bollywood star Ranveer Singh has opened up about shooting a scene of getting an electric shock in the film ‘Cirkus’. He shares that the film director Rohit Shetty made him do the rehearsals repeatedly so as to make it look realistic.
He says: “Rohit Sir made me rehearse the scene way before we started shooting, to perfect the reaction of a person getting electrified. We rehearsed so much that our scenes look very natural and are not overdone. It is not a situation where you can take real-life experience and perform.”
Ranveer made his acting debut with ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’, and later did films such as ‘Lootera’, ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’, ‘Bajirao Mastani ‘, ‘Simmba’, among others and he also hosted the TV show ‘The Big Picture’.
He shares further how he tried his best to bring perfection to the scene: “One can’t just go and grab an electric wire to understand the reaction.

Stand-up comedian Sidharth Sagar dons the Ranveer Singh look and impresses the Bollywood actor on ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’.
Wearing a pink suit like the ‘Simba’ actor, Sidharth as ‘Funveer Singh’ mimiced his style and appearance on the show.
Talking about portraying Funveer Singh in front of Ranveer, Sidharth said: “Ranveer Singh is B-town’s livewire with such infectious energy, lively and colourful personality; he is one of the most amazing actors I have ever met. While it was an honour for me, it was indeed challenging as well to portray Ranveer in front of the power house himself.”

Mumbai, Karan Johar complimented host Farhan Akhtar by calling him "pretty" while recording for the fun-with-a-celeb show "Oye! It's Friday" Farhan thought Karan was talking about Shamita Shetty who also on the show, which will air Friday on Ndtv Imagine."But Karan clarified he was calling Farhan pretty. At first Farhan didn't know how to react. But then he quickly caught hold of himself - he's not acknowledged now as a terrific actor for nothing - and then the rest of the show became an impromptu 'Dostana' with Farhan and Karan doing what John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan did in the film," a source close to the show told Ians.To add to the 'gay' atmosphere, Kantaben (Sulabha Arya), who trembled with homophobia all through "Kal Ho Naa Ho", was ...
