Director Steven Soderbergh has settled a paternity lawsuit filed by an Australian graduate film student.

Frances Lawrencina Anderson fell pregnant in 2009 after a fling with the Ocean's Eleven filmmaker and recently took legal action against the star in order to receive child support payments for the baby girl she gave birth to last August.

Soderbergh's lawyer, Bernard Clair, reveals the two reached an "amicable" agreement on Wednesday, although the details of the settlement will remain confidential.

Clair tells the New York Post, "Both parties preserved their integrity."

Soderbergh, 48, is currently married to writer/journalist Jules Asner and has a daughter with his first wife Betsy Brantley.

Frances Lawrencina Anderson filed papers in Manhattan, New York on Wednesday, seeking child support payments from the married Ocean's Eleven filmmaker for her little girl, Pearl Button, who was born in August.

Anderson, who allegedly had a fling with the filmmaker while he was directing a play in Sydney, is also demanding an official declaration that Soderbergh is the baby's father.

A lawyer representing Soderbergh has now spoken out about the case, revealing the star voluntarily underwent a DNA test to prove his paternity and is surprised by Anderson's legal action.

Attorney Bernard Clair tells the New York Post, "My client is puzzled by the filing because they've been involved in settlement negotiations in Australia since April. We view this filing as nothing other than an effort to forum-shop, because of the mistaken belief that New York will somehow be more generous to a baby that lives in Australia full-time than the Australian courts."

Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh has been hit with a paternity lawsuit from an Australian woman who alleges he fathered her daughter.

Frances Lawrencina Anderson filed papers in Manhattan, New York on Wednesday, claiming the Ocean's Eleven filmmaker "has acknowledged that he is the father of the child" and has undergone a DNA test to confirm the paternity.

In the suit, Anderson also states Soderbergh helped to cover her medical expenses throughout her pregnancy, right up until the birth of baby Pearl in August.

Anderson claims she "had sexual intercourse" with the married director "on many occasions covering a period of time covering all possible dates of conception, including but not limited to December 2009".

Soderbergh spent several months in Sydney, where Anderson lives, directing stage show Tot Mom. The production ran from December 2009 until February 2010.

Anderson is seeking child support and an official declaration that Soderbergh is the father.

Soderbergh's lawyer declined to comment Thursday on the lawsuit, and his manager didn't immediately return a telephone call.

Frances Lawrencina Anderson's paternity suit says the "Traffic" and "Ocean's Eleven" director helped pay medical expenses during Anderson's pregnancy, and a DNA test showed he was the father of the girl she had in August.

Asner, a former model and TV correspondent, has created a parallel universe in her upcoming tome entitled Whacked - which follows a fictional character as she seeks revenge on a cheating boyfriend and mingles with real-life stars.

Her characters make controversial observations about Barrymore, who is "about to expire like spoiled milk" and Angelina Jolie: "God doesn't really make size-zero women with size-36C bustlines, right?"

The wife of Ocean's Eleven director Steven Soderbergh has dismissed reports her three year marriage to the film-maker is over as "not true." Jules Asner has rubbished a story on the website of her former E! Entertainment Television colleague Ted Casablanca, which said the pair are on the verge of splitting. Asner insists she and Soderbergh are still "very happy" together. Casablanca has since issued an apology and retracted the story. Asner, a former Elite model, and Soderbergh started dating in 2001 and were married in May 2003.

Sources said that Sony Pictures Television's talk show Life & Style and reality/talk show Pat Croce: Moving In won't be returning for a second season. Production has already wrapped on both first-run strips, sources said. It's likely that a mix of original episodes and repeats of both shows will continue to air through September. SPT declined comment Monday. Life and Pat Croce have had little traction since their September debuts. Season to date, Life is averaging a 0.5 household rating, and Pat Croce is averaging a 0.7. "Life & Style," a new syndicated one-hour daytime strip from Sony Pictures Television, is being geared aggressively to women viewers for its planned fall 2004 launch. "Jules and the network have amicably decided to part ways later this month to enable her to pursue other opportunities," the cable network said in a statement. "She was a valued member of E!'s team for over five years, and we wish her all the best in the years to come both personally and professionally." Asner has served in numerous roles for the cable network since joining E! in 1997, when she started as a correspondent for E! News Daily. After a stint as a host of E!'s Wild On, she was promoted to co-anchor of Daily (since renamed E! News Live), a position she held until moving to New York in November. She has continued as host of Revealed in addition to filing reports from the red carpets of various awards programs.
