Billie Eilish Is At the bottom of a pool, held down by a large black weight attached to her shoulders. She is not, to put it mildly, enjoying herself. “I was basically waterboarding myself for six hours straight,” the 22-year-old superstar tells me later. “If I’m not suffering somehow, I don’t feel good about what I’m doing.”
Eilish is wearing baggy black pants beneath a pair of shorts, a button-down shirt over a thermal long-sleeve, a striped tie, arm warmers, a variety of silver rings, and a goth-studded bracelet,...

In an effort to raise awareness about the music industry’s sustainability practices, or lack thereof, Billie Eilish is highlighting the ways in which artists — herself included — can avoid feeding into the cycle of overconsumption. In a recent interview with Billboard, the musician called out the “wasteful,” yet popularized, trend of artists releasing multiple vinyl variants with slight differences in artwork or track listing to encourage more purchases. But the point of her criticism was nearly overshadowed by speculation about whether she was subtly calling out anyone in particular.

Billie Eilish is calling out artists who are not mindful of the environmental impact they are having by selling multiple vinyl variants to boost their album sales.
The Oscar winner has been conscious about using 100% recycled black vinyl for copies of her Happier Than Ever album, using recycled scraps for colored variants, and having each record enclosed in a shrink-wrap made of sugarcane.
“We live in this day and age where, for some reason, it’s very important to some artists to make all sorts of different vinyl and packaging … which ups the sales and ups the numbers and gets them more money and gets them more…,” Eilish said in an interview with Billboard about sustainability.
Eilish’s mother, Maggie Baird, added, “Well, it counts toward No. 1 albums.”
The “Bad Guy” creator continued, “I can’t even express to you how wasteful it is. It is right in front of...

Billie Eilish isn’t here for artists who put out multiple unique vinyls for their albums, unless they do so in a sustainable way.
The Grammy winner and her mom, Maggie Baird, recently sat down with Billboard to discuss how she’s constantly fighting for sustainability in her career — and has been since before she became famous. For her 2022 Happier Than Ever tour, she partnered with Reverb, a nonprofit that addresses environmental concerns in the music industry, to serve plant-based meals for the artists and crew. During her Lollapalooza set in 2023, she partially used zero-emissions battery systems on-site to set up a temporary “solar farm.”
During the conversation, Eilish opened up about one particular practice in the music industry that she finds completely “wasteful”: putting out multiple, unique vinyls for upcoming albums.

The Academy Awards telecast had its fair share of memorable highlights, like John Cena’s naked presentation of the costumes category, or Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s faux “Barbenheimer” feud while presenting a special tribute to stunt professionals.
But there was plenty that the audience at home didn’t see, from the pre-show pandemonium caused by late arrivals to the sweetest interactions at the Governor’s Ball after party.
See the full list of Oscar winners here.
Late Start
Viewers at home may not have noticed when the broadcast began, but the room was filled with chaos in the moments before the program, causing a five-minute delay to the show’s start. The ceremony was slated to begin earlier than usual this year, bumped up an hour to 4 p.m. Pt. Couple that with hundreds of pro-Palestine protesters shutting down a major section of Hollywood and many A-listers arrived with just seconds to spare.

Singer Billie Eilish and actress Melissa McCarthy hit the stage together at the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards to present the award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Comedy Series. On the stage, McCarthy revealed that she had met Eilish even before she was born as Eilish’s mother, Maggie Baird, was her first improv teacher and was pregnant with Eilish.

Further during their conversation, McCarthy asked Eilish to sign her gown but since Eilish refused to ruin her look, she asked her to sign her face instead. Eilish’s 2024 has been good so far as the singer accepted the Song of the Year for “What Was I Made For?” at the 2024 Grammys with her brother, Finneas.

Melissa McCarthy won’t soon forget sharing a moment on stage at the SAG Awards with Billie Eilish thanks to a black Sharpie.
In one of the show’s more hilarious moments, McCarthy and Eilish took to the stage to present the trophy for female actor in a comedy series, and the movie star took the opportunity to have a fangirl moment. McCarthy reminded Eilish that they had meet before, actually several times, though Eilish seemed not to recall.
“We’ve actually met before, but it’s Ok, it doesn’t matter. I mean, why would you remember that? You shouldn’t remember. We’ve meet twice, actually we’ve met thrice. You’ve met my daughters and one of my dogs,” McCarthy said to the music superstar, who is making the rounds (and picking up tons of trophies) for writing “What Was I Made For” for the Barbie soundtrack.

Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell have another hit on their hands with “What Was I Made For,” a track from Greta Gerwig’s Barbie that has already snagged a Golden Globe nomination and five Grammy nominations, including record and song of the year.
On Thursday night in the desert, the song propelled them to the stage to pick up a Chairman’s Award during the Palm Springs Film Awards and Eilish took the opportunity to dedicate the trophy to a target audience while also revealing emotional truths about her life and when she wanted it to end.
“I would really like to say that this award and any recognition that this song gets, I just want to dedicate to anyone who experiences hopelessness, the feeling of existential dread and feeling like, what’s the point, why am I here and why am I doing this?” Eilish explained while standing next...

Billie Eilish’s tender speech about being a woman brought the audience to tears long before her heartrending performance of the “Barbie” ballad, “What Was I Made For?” at Variety’s Power of Women event Thursday, presented by Lifetime.
The surprise speech was spurred after “Barbie” star Ariana Greenblatt shared an emotional story centered around the moment she met Eilish at the film’s premiere. “I was still processing the fact that she made a song for the movie, a song that resonates with me and probably many of you in a deep way. I did not think I would be capable of meeting her, let alone holding a conversation with her,” she said.
“Well, that night I did get to meet her, and it was the biggest full-circle moment thus far in my life. That night was the start of a friendship that I cherish and hold close to my heart.

Billie Eilish and Janelle Monáe sat together for drinks at the Support + Feed’s fall fundraiser this week.
Unlike the usual formal fundraising events celebrities go to, this one seemed pretty casual. The “What Was I Made For?” singer wore a black windbreaker and drank Liquid Death water as she sat across Monáe.
Monáe was honored with an Inspiration Award for her own initiative called Wondalunch, which also partnered with Support + Feed to feed Los Angeles families.
In her acceptance speech, she called herself a “child of service” and talked about her family and their roles in serving the community.
“I remember what it was like not to have food on the table,” she recalled. “What it was like for Thanksgiving and Christmas, to have to get canned goods from your church, or the Salvation Army, or an aunt or your grandmother — I remember that,” she said. “I remember the...

As Billie Eilish treated herself to a bowl of soup the day after her headlining performance at the first weekend of Coachella 2022, she learned that Donald Glover was looking for her.
“I was on some management call, and I remember being told, ‘There’s this show, but it’s during a period of time where you’re not available. Billie Eilish has been granted a five-year restraining order against a man who broke into her childhood home to “profess his love” for her.

The duo will receive the Ema Missions in Music Award at the Oct. 8 event “for their incredible work as role models for sustainable behaviors,” including Eilish’s current tour, Happier Than Ever, The World Tour, the organization said.
Together, Eilish and Baird created “Overheated,” an extra component with climate-focused activities including clothing swaps, documentary screenings and veganism talks as part of an effort to communicate issues related to sustainable fashion and encourage fans to participate. It was organized in collaboration with Baird’s charity, Support + Feed, which takes on food insecurity and the climate crisis with plant-based food.

Filmmaker R.J. Cutler’s interest in documenting Billie Eilish dates back to 2018, when he contacted director of photography Jenna Rosher about a rising star he saw interviewed in Vanity Fair. “I watched those and was completely fascinated and blown away by her from the get-go,” Rosher says of the magazine’s series, which checks in on Eilish yearly.
To chronicle the moment in which she became a worldwide phenomenon, “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry,” available on Apple TV Plus, follows the teen singer as she writes and releases her debut album, interweaving intimate family footage with concert clips and rare behind-the-scenes moments.
Rosher, who worked with Cutler and editor Lindsay Utz, was not looking to make a celebrity vanity piece or a talking-head documentary. “We were interested in telling a story about a young woman coming of age on the world stage,” she says.

“I spent a lot of years pretending to be somebody that I’m not,” said Billie Eilish in her Saturday Night Live opening monologue tonight. “Basically, acting.”
“And somebody wise once told me: ‘Billie, you should never, ever act’…that person was my mom!” exclaimed the seven-time Grammy winner in her SNL hosting debut.
Technically, tonight repped Eilish’s second time on SNL; her first time appearing was as a musical guest on September 28, 2019. She performed her hit song “Bad Guy” back then while dancing in a rotating, mechanical box. To Americans watching, it appeared that Eilish was pulling a Fred Astaire and dancing on the ceiling.
In her opening monologue tonight, Eilish made light of her poofy, candy-cane colored dress (“I’m dressed like Mrs. Claus going to the club”), gave a shoutout to her upcoming birthday (“I’m turning 20 or as the internet likes to call that: middle-aged...

There’s an emotional realness to singer-songwriter Billie Eilish, a disinclination to disguise experience behind euphemism or pretense.
It manifests in her music and in Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, the Oscar-contending documentary that follows her on her journey to global stardom. In the film directed by R.J. Cutler Eilish doesn’t censor dark moments from her past, occasional frustrations attendant to fame, and a major romantic disappointment—young love ultimately unrequited.
When it came time to discuss the documentary publicly for the first time, Eilish brought the realness again, admitting to an audience in Hollywood that she felt anxious as the film was about to be released on Apple TV+.
“I was excited and scared and nervous, and worried and hopeful,” she told attendees at a post-screening Q&a. “It was not acting, I wasn’t playing a character. It was real life footage of my life…...

Before Netflix had grown into a world-conquering streaming giant, “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry” director R.J. Cutler would routinely bump into the company’s co-ceo Ted Sarandos on the film festival circuit. Netflix was still a DVD-by-mail rental service at the time, and Sarandos confided to him that “The War Room” – Cutler’s Oscar-nominated Bill Clinton campaign doc – was among its most popular rentals.
Flash forward a few years, and the streaming-fueled boom in documentary filmmaking didn’t seem so far-fetched to Cutler. “It made complete sense to me that when Netflix transformed to a streaming service, and then began producing original content, the audience’s passion for nonfiction would continue to form a key element of the streamer’s success,” he said. “If it works on Netflix, that meant it would work on Amazon, Hulu, Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, HBO Max, Discovery Plus, Peacock and others.

Fans are happier than ever over Billie Eilish's latest look. The "bad guy" singer debuted her fresh hairstyle on social media Monday, Aug. 23. While the shaggy bob is new for the Grammy winner, she had very familiar inspiration: her mom! The star shared throwback snaps of her mother Maggie Baird with a similar 'do. "Like my mama," she proclaimed on her Instagram Story. "I love it." Fans do, too. "Ur hair suits u so much," one follower commented on a recent Instagram post. Another echoed, "Billie bob billie bob yessssss." When it comes to being a hair chameleon, the 19-year-old star has proven to be quite the master. Over her...

From the outside, the house isn’t terribly different from others on the block: a cozy bungalow in L.A.’s Highland Park neighborhood with an old lilac tree blooming near the entrance. In fact, it’s legendary: the place where a prodigal teenager and her older brother recorded the album that made Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell the queen of Gen-z pop.

Exclusive: How did audiences respond to the Apple TV+ premiere of Billie Eilish: The World’s A Little Blurry, which premiered in over 100 countries and theaters? The streamer would not divulge specific numbers — they never do — but I can report that the film became the biggest hit title for young adult audiences that Apple has had so far across its slate of films and TV series. The movie drew a record-breaking 33% new viewers to the service, with young adult audiences fueling the momentum from the moment the film premiered on Thursday, February 25. Nearly half of the film’s audience came from outside the U.S. and was number one among young adults across the globe, including the U.K., Australia, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, Russia, the Netherlands, France, and more, per Apple.

One of the first credits in the documentary “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry” is “An Interscope Films Production,” which isn’t the most encouraging opening. When the company that manages an artist and releases their music is also behind a film about that artist, you expect lots of access but perhaps not so much objectivity.
Then again, it’s pretty much guaranteed that most music-oriented docs these days have ties to the artists’ business interests — and besides, Billie Eilish is not the kind of musician who seems inclined to be looking for an airbrushed vanity piece. The music she’s been making since she was 13 constitutes her own authorized portrait of sorts, and it’s a portrait that is raw and unkempt and human; if the point of her music is to capture a young life in all its messiness, uncertainty and pain, the company that releases that...

Michelle Williams to Play Peggy Lee in Biopic for Director Todd Haynes, Billie Eilish Eyeing EP Role
Michelle Williams is on board to portray another entertainment icon, in the Peggy Lee biopic “Fever” for director Todd Haynes, Variety has confirmed. MGM is in talks to back the film. Marc Platt, Reese Witherspoon, and Killer Films’ Pamela Koffler and Christine Vachon are producing. Doug Wright (“Quills”) is writing the screenplay.
Billie Eilish, her mother Maggie Baird, and Justin Lubliner, CEO of Eilish’s label Darkroom, are also in early discussions about possibly coming aboard the film as executive producers. Eilish has cited Lee as an inspiration; in December 2019, the singer-songwriter told Variety, “I used to listen to tons of old music — Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Etta James, Johnny Mathis and people like that — where all the songs had a perfect songwriting structure.”

Michelle Williams is attached to star in the biopic “Fever” about the life of singer Peggy Lee. The film will now be directed by Todd Haynes, and MGM is in talks to acquire it, two individuals told TheWrap.
“Fever” was once a project that had Reese Witherspoon attached to star with a screenplay by the late Nora Ephron, but this latest package of the film is still in its early days.
Pop star Billie Eilish has expressed interest in being an executive producer on the film along with her mother, Maggie Baird, and record label boss Justin Lubliner. Eilish previously participated in an online 100th anniversary celebration of Lee’s contributions to music.
“Fever” began as a project under Fox 2000, but was put on hold after Ephron passed away in 2012 and after Witherspoon departed the film. Fox 2000 was then closed in Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, and the project was shelved.

Ellen DeGeneres pulled off another successful celebrity scare.
Musician Billie Eilish jumped out of a box on Ellen Wednesday to terrify her super fan Melissa McCarthy — and McCarthy’s The Kitchen costars Tiffany Haddish and Elisabeth Moss.
The singer, 17, made a special point to stop by the show before taking off for the San Francisco stop in her North American tour that night.
Just after McCarthy, 48, showed off her love for the pop star by playing a revised, comedic version of Eilish’s “Bad Guy” music video, the singer popped out from a hidden box behind the guest couch and DeGeneres’ chair.

Anne Hathaway wasn't the first person to play DC Comics Catwoman and she won't be the last. But is there a future for her version of the classic character in the current Warner Bros. DC film universe? Hathaway recently spoke to Variety while promoting her latest film, Colossal. Considering Warner Bros' DC Comics films are getting a lot of attention right now, and she played Selina Kyle in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, they asked her if she'd be opposed to doing a Catwoman movie. She replied, "Of course not." That's not to say it's going to become a reality. Joseph Gordon-Levitt was also recently asked about continuing his Dkr role and said in part the third film was "the perfect ending to that story." "I loved that character so much and I had such a blast playing it," Hathaway told Variety but added the obvious caveat, "I'm...

Earnestness doesn't fully excuse the low-key schmaltz peddled by Life Inside Out, the type of indie that your mother might politely describe as "touching" if she could manage to stay awake for its entirety. Produced partly thanks to a Kickstarter campaign, and co-written by star Maggie Baird, director Jill D'Agnenica's modest film details the efforts of Laura (Baird) to manage a busy household in which her husband and two older sons spend most of their time berating and/or neglecting youngest kid Shane (Finneas O'Connell), whose plight is the result of his perpetually morose attitude. O'Connell embodies Shane with bland troubled-teen dourness, though his character's mood slowly changes once Laura — who doesn't get much satisfaction from hanging out with a ...
