The winners are '23 Degrees 5 Minutes' to be written and directed by Darragh O'Connell and produced by Colm Tyrell of Brown Bag Films; 'The Meaning of Eggsistence' to be written and directed by Bruce Ryder and produced by Stephen Rennicks and Lenny Abrahamson of Element Films; 'The Boy Who Lived in a Bubble' to be written and directed by Kealan O'Rourke and produced by Brian Willis of Igloo Productions; 'Red Lead' to be written and directed by Tony O' Donoghue and produced by Cathal Black of Mayfly Films Ltd; and Paperman' to be written by Richard Kelly and Sean Ryan, directed by Richard Kelly and produced by Jessica Kelly of Prickly Pear Productions.

Irish filmmaker Cathal Black, known for making movies that fluidly mix fact and fiction, documentary tropes and dramatic technique, has maybe found his ultimate subject in Thomas Lynch. Lynch, who describes himself in Black's Learning Gravity as "a father, a husband, an undertaker," is also a renowned poet and essayist whose writings inspired Alan Ball to create his HBO series, Six Feet Under. In the film, Lynch says his poetry grew out of a desire to "leave a record" for his children of what was going on in his head while he appeared to be "staring at your ear, preoccupied." Poetry, he says, is his way of making his subjective interpretation of his life, work and family into something concrete, an "effort to act out in language those most unspeakable feelings ...

Directors David Fincher and Jan Troell and actress Jean Simmons will trek this weekend to the Rockies, where each will be feted with a tribute at the 35th Telluride Film Festival.
The pocket-size festival, which traditionally doesn't reveal its lineup until the last minute, gets under way today in the Colorado mountain town and runs through Monday. Despite the all-American locale, this year's event will have an especially international feel.
"Internationally, this has been another terrific year," Gary Meyer, who serves as fest director along with Tom Luddy, said of the lineup the two have assembled.
The only soft spot might be the U.S. component.
"The trend that all the fall festivals are facing," Meyer said, "is that because of the writers strike, a lot of high-profile American films that might have been available just aren't going to be ready in time."
That, in turn, could affect the way...

Declan Recks' "Eden" has been selected to screen as the opening night film of the first Irish Film Festival of Los Angeles, which kicks off at the Clarity Theater in Beverly Hills on Oct. 2.
"Eden," starring Eileen Walsh and Aidan Kelly, is the portrait of a married couple that Eugene O'Brien adapted from his play of the same name.
The closing night special event on Oct. 5 will include two rare Irish silent films accompanied by a live orchestra with an original contemporary score composed by Eimear Noone, Irish film composer and conductor of the Los Angeles Ballet.
The festival will also screen Tom Collins' "Kings," the first Irish-language film ever submitted in the best foreign-language category for an Academy Award.
Other titles in the lineup include "Grandpa...Speak to Me in Russian," directed by Louis Lentin; "Shalom Ireland," directed by Valerie Lapin; "Learning Gravity" (aka "The Undertaking"), directed...

COLOGNE, Germany -- The Berlin International Film Festival said Monday that its Berlinale Co-production Market will this year move to the Berlin House of Representatives, down the road from the Berlin fest's headquarters on Potsdamer Platz. The Berlin House of Representatives is located across the road from the Martin Gropius Bau, where Berlin's main mart, the European Film Market, will be relocating in 2006. The co-production market also unveiled the 30 projects from 22 countries that will be looking for co-producers and financiers at this year's event. They include the latest projects from Canadian director Kelly Makin, Spain's Jose Luis Cuerda and Irish helmer Cathal Black.
