The Greedo scene from George Lucas' 1977 film "Star Wars" remains steeped in controversy. /Film has written before about the many, many cuts of the Greedo scene throughout "Star Wars" history, and how baffling each subsequent change has been. In the original 1977 cut of "Star Wars," the affable Han Solo (Harrison Ford) is approached by a mugwump-like alien named Greedo (Paul Blake) in a seedy bar. Greedo is there to collect on a debt, holds a weapon on Han, and will likely kill him right at the table where he is sitting. Han, seeing the danger, plays it cool. He reaches under the table, surreptitiously unholsters his blaster, and kills the unsuspecting Greedo before the alien can get a shot off. The bar is so sleazy, no one seems to really care about the murder.
In 1997, Lucas released a polished re-edit of "Star Wars" touted as the "Special Edition." The 1997 cut added a new wrinkle.

In the immortal words of Greedo: "Maclunkey!" "Star Wars" has given rise to plenty of one-liners and other memorable movie and TV quotes, from classic mantras like "May the Force be with you" and "I've got a bad feeling about this," to more recent expressions like "This is the Way" and "I have spoken" from "The Mandalorian." In the annals of franchise history, though, perhaps no "Star Wars" quote is more controversial than "Maclunkey!" As of 2019, it's the last thing Greedo says before Han Solo shoots him dead in the Disney+ edit of "Star Wars: A New Hope."
If series creator Jon Favreau had his way, Pedro Pascal's protagonist would have also said "Maclunkey!" in "The Mandalorian." Favreau can be heard floating the idea to co-executive producer Dave Filoni in the "Making of Season 2" episode of the docuseries "Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian," streaming on Disney+.

The Han/Greedo confrontation in Star Wars: A New Hope is infamous as it’s gone through many iterations over the years, with George Lucas continually tinkering with the method of the Rodian bounty hunter’s death in the Mos Eisley cantina. The latest twist on the scene comes from the Disney Plus version of the franchise’s original movie and this time, it features a very mystifying addition.
In this version, Han and Greedo shoot each other at practically the same time, with the latter missing, which somewhat fixes the previous changes but doesn’t revert back to Han completely beating Greed to the trigger. But this isn’t the real talking point of the update, as just before he dies, Greedo now cries something that sounds like “Maclunkey!” But what does the word mean?
Well, don’t ask Greedo voice actor Paul Blake, as he revealed to Empire...

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, one of the most popular Broadway shows in recent seasons and the rare jukebox musical as beloved by critics as by audiences, will end its nearly six-year Broadway run on October 27, producers announced tonight.
Based on the songs of its titular pop legend and her inner circle, Beautiful earned seven Tony nominations in 2014 and won a pair, including one for lead actress Jessie Mueller. The musical will close having played 2,418 regular performances and 60 previews. It’s Broadway’s second-longest-running bio-musical and the longest-running and highest-grossing show in the Stephen Sondheim Theatre’s history.
The production recouped its $13 million capitalization within nine months, but even it wasn’t immune to a generally tough summer for Broadway. In recent weeks, Beautiful has been grossing at about half, or just above half, of its $994,804 weekly potential. Although the summer has been hard on newer shows — with recent or...

Filmmaker Quentin Tarantino has often found himself at the center of debates over the treatment of women in his movies. That conversation was reignited on social media after the May 22 Cannes press conference for his new movie, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Farah Nayeri, a reporter from The New York Times, asked Tarantino why Margot Robbie did not have more dialogue in the movie. In the film, Robbie stars as Sharon Tate, the model and actress who was murdered in 1969 by members of Charles Manson’s cult.
Robbie was third billed in the film after Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt, but Tarantino’s scenes of Tate are mostly dialogue-free. The portrayal was clearly concerning to Nayeri. When asked about the decision not to have Sharon speak much in the film, Tarantino replied, “I reject your hypothesis.”
The question then turned to Robbie herself, who replied, “I think the moments...

Furloughed federal employees have got a friend in Broadway’s Carole King musical Beautiful: Producers have announced that workers hit by President Donald Trump’s partial government shutdown will be given free admission to select performances of the hit production.
“The shutdown has affected so many government employees in a really negative way,” said producers Paul Blake and Mike Bosner. “If we can offer those affected by this shutdown a moment of escape and joy, then we feel it is important to do so and is truly the least we can do.”
Eligible federal employees can claim tickets for select performances by presenting valid government identification (in-person only) at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre’s box office on the day of the desired performance.
The furlough tickets are available for non-sold-out Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday evening performances. The offer ends when the shutdown does.

Who Shot First? That's the question everyone has debated for years and continues to debate to this day. Well, while many people will still argue one way or another, the actor who played Greedo, Paul Blake, recently revealed there was some footage shot for Star Wars: A New Hope with Han and Greedo shooting at each other a lot more.
Blake recently talked to Sci Fi Central at a comic-con appearance in Australia and it was there that he talked about the deleted scene that he had filmed with Harrison Ford all those years ago.
"It was a brilliant little sequence in which I love doing with Harrison, where we were shooting at each other like cowboys and indians. We had this big gun battle where we were shooting at each other all morning."

We’ve seen them at sci-fi or collectibles conventions shows; some more so in England than the Us. They man tables with stacks of photos, offering autographs or pictures for a fee. In many cases their faces aren’t familiar, as their characters wore heavy makeup or masks in their appearance in the original “Star Wars” film. Still, even as you approach them face-to-face some of these people still don’t ring a bell. Maybe it’s because their scenes were deleted or they were an extra amongst many. Others, you discover are a familiar masked character and you are happy to chat for a few moments with them, as that movie, and its two sequels (I am only referring to the original trilogy starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher), had such a lasting impact on your childhood.

Everybody knows Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher. When Disney bought Lucasfilm from George Lucas and announced they’d be producing a new Star Wars trilogy and spin-off features, everyone knew those three would be back in the fold. Even guys like Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker were known commodities to consult if not star underneath the costumes they made famous. But what of the other actors — the nameless, sometimes faceless, and almost always uncredited performers who were a part of something so universally revered? Does their being extras mean they weren’t as important to the legend? Fans lining up for autographs don’t think so. Anyone on set and immortalized in one of history’s greatest cinematic franchises is an unequivocal hero.
To people like me who love the series but never rendered it into a cornerstone of daily life, however, these smaller, hidden roles prove an intriguing curio.

So that being said, and with those expectations set freakin’ sky high, let’s see if ol’ Belladonna was worth the wait or will it just fill me with sadness of my own!
Belladonna Of Sadness, based loosely (and by that I mean hardly at all) on the French novel La Sorcière by Jules Michelet, tells the brutal tale of Jeanne,...

Greedo Actor Says Han Solo Shot First, Boba Fett Was Initially Eyed For ‘Return Of The Jedi’ Villain
In an interview with New York Daily News, Paul Blake — a.k.a. the actor behind Greedo in the original “Star Wars” film — confirmed what fans of the science fantasy series have known for years. While George Lucas has worked vigorously to make Blake’s character look like the one who pulled the trigger first, the […]

The fact that the documentary doesn’t mention Star Wars in the title is a telling indication of the kind of film Jon Spira has made. With the focus on the people behind the masks and costumes, Spira deliberately has focused his lens on the lives of these actors and not the characters that they became famous for. Fans of Star Wars might be disappointed by this decision, but the result is a film that is more thoughtful than just another look at the legacy of the iconic series.
Minor characters and some that really aren’t even considered characters (sorry, stormtrooper who knocked his noggin against a blast door) step into the spotlight in Elstree 1976. While some of these actors or actresses may not mean much to the casual Star Wars filmgoer, the super fans will delight in watching the guy who play Greedo, the former bodybuilder who...

As if anyone needed further convincing that Han Solo shot first in the theatrical cut of 1977's Star Wars, the man who played Greedo has come forward to say that's exactly how it went down on both the set of the film and in the original script. Actor Paul Blake told the New York Daily News (via Uproxx):
"...it said it all in the original script, we played in the scene in English and at the end of the scene, it reads, 'Han shoots the alien.' It's all it says and that's what happened. It was very painful."
Like the rest of fandom, Blake wants to see the original version reinstated to the movie, but he has slightly more selfish reasoning: the altered version makes Greedo look like an embarrassingly terrible bounty hunter:
"He was a bit inept wasn't he? He's a worse shot than a Stormtrooper. I...

It may be the single most controversial change to a piece of fiction in the history of time. Seriously, this one still gets people upset. In 1996 George Lucas added blaster fire to the cantina scene of the original Star Wars: A New Hope with Han Solo and Greedo... and the world went crazy. George Lucas has said before that Greedo always shot first, but that it simply wasn.t clear. One guy from the set says that.s not true, and Han Solo fired the only shot. And this guy would know, as he.s the one who got hit. Paul Blake was the actor who played Greedo. The bounty hunter tracks his prey to the Mos Eisley cantina where he confronts the smuggler before planning to turn him in to Jabba the Hutt. In the original version of the sequence we see Han Solo blast Greedo from under...

Of all the changes George Lucas made to his "Star Wars" special edition films in the 1990s, no single action was more talked about than the cantina scene in which the infamous exchange between Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Greedo (Paul Blake) was changed in a way that impacted the whole scene.
Fans want it restored, actor John Boyega wants it too, and more recently the original script proved Han did shoot first in the scene. Now even Blake himself, who donned the mask, wants the original scene restored. Speaking with the New York Daily News about the upcoming documentary "Elstree 1976," Blake indicates he was upset with the change - mostly as it makes his character seem even more incompetent at his job:
"He was a bit inept wasn't he? He's a worse shot than a Stormtrooper. I don't think Jabba had him under a pension plan, let's put it that way.

Elstree 1976 is a new Star Wars documentary that offers hardcore fans of the franchise an interesting look at the lives of the actors whose faces we never saw in the original films and the effect Star Wars had on them. George Lucas’ Star Wars was just another job for a lot of people. Little did they know how there lives were going to change after it was released.
The doc centers on the actors who played characters such as Darth Vader (David Prowse), Boba Fett (Jeremy Bulloch), Greedo (Paul Blake), X-Wing pilot Angus MacInnes, Stormtroopers, and more. While they were making the movie they never suspected how popular their characters were going to become. We’ve seen a ton of Star Wars docs over the year, but I like the unique spin that this one has. It’s really interesting to hear these people talk about what it was...

"There are no small parts, only small actors," famed acting coach Konstantin Stanislavsky once remarked, and it's the kind of statement that can only bring comfort to the many, many aspiring actors who never get their chance to shine in a lead role. However, in the new documentary “Elstree 1976” the players who helped bring George Lucas' "Star Wars" to life — and I'm not talking about Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, or Harrison Ford — do get their moment to share what it was like to make movie history. For all the talk of the billions of dollars "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" will rake in, the plans of the sequels and spinoffs and more, it can be easy to forget that the franchise has very humble beginnings. In fact, 20th Century Fox had so little faith in the original "Star Wars," they gave George Lucas the merchandising rights (easily one of the worst cinematic business decisions in history). However, Jon Spira’s new documentary “Elstree 1976” takes audiences on a thirty-nine year trip to tell the story of how Lucas started an empire, by hearing it from some of the smaller players who made it happen. After bowing at the BFI London Film Festival and Sitges, Jon Spira's Star Wars documentary is now readying for a theatrical release in the UK courtesy of The Works. Elstree 1976 talks to ten of the minor players involved in George Lucas' science fiction classics, from Paul Blake, who played Greedo, to Boba Fett himself Jeremy Bulloch. While the world has been forever changed by Star Wars, back when it was shooting in a sweltering UK summer 39 years ago, few of those involved had any idea what they were a part of, let alone that it - and ultimately they - would become such icons of cinema.Check out the trailer below....

With a new NFL season starting up, we take a look at the best fictional quarterbacks in TV and film history.
It's become almost an annual rite of passage to root against Tom Brady. I mean, look at him, the handsome man who spent a pre-Super Bowl press conference a few years ago rambling on about ball preference. I don’t care how old you are, Brady talking about people preferring “old balls” is pretty hilarious. He won his sixth Super Bowl in 2019, the most ever by any NFL player, and continues to give us reason to root against him by being so damn good.
Brady's career seems like it's taken right out of a film script, either a drama about a diabolical ego-maniac so possessed with winning that he’s been creatively cheating for years, or a feel-good-story about a diamond in the rough...

Today saw the return of the Star Wars Fan Fun Day to Burnley, Lancashire. The annual event takes place each year at Turf Moor, home to Burnley F.C., and this years event appeared to be the largest yet! Guests included such Star Wars luminaries such as Dave Prowse (Darth Vader), Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), and Paul Blake (Greedo); along with the charity costume organisations Rebel Legion and the 99th Imperial UK Garrison who turned out again in force for photo opportunites and fan interaction.
As I said in last years write up, the Star Wars Fan Fun Day is a non-profit event that takes place every year, and each year the event grows in size. This year the event had grown so much we had to join a queue that was going out the door when we arrived at 11am. In fact when we got to the sign in table,...
