When the opening scene ended with a pretty cool and gory death, in what was a traditional but fun slasher film build-up, my hopes were kind of high. It feels like we have had very few new slasher movie villains to get excited about. Of course, Michael Myers, Chucky, Ghostface and more are still going strong but other than Art the Clown in the Terrifier franchise, no one seems to have lasted for more than one movie in more recent times. So when Randy Couture is standing tall as Hank, giant axe in hand, things were looking up. But the movie doesn’t quite pan out the way I was expecting.

Is Cher’s $1 million royalties claim against Mary Bono strong enough? A judge seems to think so.
At a court hearing Monday, a federal judge said he believes Cher is entitled to receive ongoing composition royalties from songs including “I Got U Babe” and “The Beat Goes On” as outlined in her 1978 divorce agreement with Sonny Bono – despite Sonny’s heirs exercising their right to recapture his underlying copyrights under the federal Copyright Act.
In his tentative ruling delivered from the bench, U.S. District Judge John Kronstadt said he...

The Bell Keeper opens on a reasonably strong note for what appears to be an indie slasher. An axe-wielding figure, we’ll later find out his name is Hank, dispatches a pair of victims and adds their driver’s licenses to the collection on his cabin wall. The only as to why, “You shouldn’t have rung the bell”.
This happens at Lake Bell which, as the newspaper headlines under the credits tell us, has a long and evil reputation that includes lots of brutal deaths and mysterious disappearances. So of course filmmakers Gabriel, and Matthew want to make a documentary about it.
So they, along with their girlfriends Megan, Holly, and Liam Matt’s little brother who happens to own a camper,...

Cher has been accused of hiring four men to kidnap her son, Elijah Blue Allman, from a New York hotel room in an effort to stop Allman from reconciling with his estranged wife.
Marie Angela King, his estranged wife, made the startling allegation in court documents she filed in Los Angeles Superior Court back on Dec. 5. The court documents, obtained by Et, are only now making headlines after the case was uncovered as part of the estranged couple’s ongoing divorce case.
In court documents, King claims she was told Cher hired four men to remove Allman from a hotel room the night of their wedding anniversary. She claims they spent 12 days alone together since Nov. 18, but that all changed on Nov. 30, 2022, when four people barged into their hotel room and “removed [Allman] from our room.

"You shouldn't have rang the bell!" Screen Media has revealed an official trailer for an indie horror thriller titled The Bell Keeper, the latest from young filmmaker Colton Tran. It's heading to VOD in October, yet another new horror film releasing during Halloween Season. A group of friends travel out to a campsite with a mysterious bell that summons a murderer if you ring it at midnight. Their plan to debunk the myth and film a documentary goes awry as they discover that the truth is stranger – and far more frightening – than fiction. What they find is something much more sinister than they could have ever imagined... Starring Randy Couture, Kathleen Kenny, Reid Miller, Chaz Bono, Bonnie Aarons, and Mike Manning. Yeah it looks as bad as it sounds. This used to be the kind of direct-to-bargain-bin crap we'd all laugh at. My guess: they'll turn into demons, Couture is just slaying the demons.

Last year, Spider One – the frontman of Powerman 5000 and the brother of fellow musician/filmmaker Rob Zombie – made his feature directorial debut with the horror anthology Allegoria. In April, his second feature – a horror film called Bury the Bride – was released through the Tubi streaming service. Bury the Bride, which recently debuted as a Tubi Original, is the second film from director Spider One and co-writer Krsy Fox after last year’s Allegoria. Spider One, for those not into the industrial metal scene, is the singer and only consistent member of the band Powerman 5000; and probably more important to his expansion into filmmaking, he’s Rob Zombie’s younger brother.
And Bury the Bride certainly opens like one of his brother’s films as credits playing over an old-timey love song give way to green-tinted footage of a woman hacking at someone or something just out of sight. And then to a group of women talking about the dick size of someone’s fiance while another tries, and loudly announces her failure,...

Mary Bono says Cher’s $1 million lawsuit over allegedly unpaid royalties for Sonny & Cher songs including “I Got You Babe” is “groundless” and should be dismissed, according to a new filing in federal court in Los Angeles.
The widow of Sonny Bono — who was elected to replace him in Congress just months after his 1998 death in a skiing accident — claims in her new paperwork that federal law, specifically the Copyright Act, is on her side and trumps any state contract or community property laws cited by Cher in her breach of contract complaint filed Oct.

I was covering the red carpet for a tribute to Mike Nichols years ago when Cher arrived. She took some photos but strolled by reporters hoping — to no avail — for an interview.
Feeling courageous — or maybe more desperate — I yelled out as loud as I could, “Cher!” She turned around. When our eyes met, I screamed, “I’m gay.”
Cher smiled and came over to me. I got my interview.
I recalled that moment while talking with the music legend for the latest episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “You said the magic word,” she says, laughing. “And it worked. … It shows my commitment.”
Cher, whose son Chaz Bono is transgender, has been an LGBTQ icon for as long as she’s been Cher — actually from when she was a preteen and still known as Cherilyn Sarkisian. She was about 10 years old when her mom introduced her to a...

Good Deed Entertainment’s genre label Cranked Up Films has acquired U.S. rights to American Badger, an action film written and directed by and starring stunt veteran Kirk Caouette. It is set for a digital and VOD release on June 15.
Caouette plays a hitman known as Badger, the nickname that came from his wife, who died 4451 days ago. Since her passing he has been living the life of a recluse, operating in the shadows. But all that is about to change with his latest assignment: Make friends with a sex worker named Velvet (Andrea Stefancikova) and extract information about the inner workings of an Albanian gang she works for. An unlikely romance follows until Badger’s handler tells him that it is time to take down the syndicate — and the first person he must kill is Velvet.
“Right away we took to the complex,...

Gleb Savchenko wanted to dance with Johnny Weir last season when the figure skater was cast in the 29th season of “Dancing with the Stars” last fall. That’s what the pro dancer told Mr. Warburton Magazine in a recent interview. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The conservative-leaning ABC reality competition series still has never had a same-sex couple compete for the Mirror Ball Trophy. And it’s long overdue.
SEERemember when Zendaya almost won ‘Dancing with the Stars’ and Val Chmerkovskiy told her she’d win an Oscar one day?
“I can’t wait for this moment!” Savchenko said about the possibility of breaking new ground on “DWTS.” “Last season when Johnny Weir got on the show I was like, ‘Johnny, you have to be my partner,’ but they ended up not doing it. They’ve done it before in Australia with Courtney Act and in...

Welcome to this week’s “Just for Variety.”
Attention Cardi B! Kesha may be sliding into your DMs. The “Praying” singer-songwriter tells me she’d love to have the “Wap” hitmaker on her podcast “Kesha and the Creepies.” “I just love listening to her, and she makes me feel calm,” she says. “She’s like a walking rainbow for me.” No surprise, Kesha would like to make music with Cardi: “I’ll have to send her a direct message when I get home.” Kesha recently dropped the video for “Stronger,” her single with Sam Feldt. “I was a little bit paralyzed, to be honest, with just the state of affairs for a good while. It made me really nervous and scared,” she says. “And I just felt like, your music is not important right now. You just need to survive. Then after the election, I felt a little bit of a sense of ease,...

The filmmakers behind the Netflix documentary “Disclosure” were presented with an official proclamation from the City of West Hollywood by Mayor Lindsey Horvath on Wednesday night. Director Sam Feder and executive producer Laverne Cox received the honor during the City of West Hollywood’s Human Right Speakers series.
In addition to Feder and Cox, other panelists included Drian Juarez, the vice president of TransCanWork and vice president of the City of West Hollywood Transgender advisory board. The free virtual discussion was moderated by newly elected City Council member John Erickson.
The proclamation formally recognized “Disclosure” for its significant contributions to the transgender community. After the honor was presented, panelists engaged in an hourlong conversation discussing the mentoring model behind the documentary, which prioritized hiring trans people for their production crew. In the case where the filmmakers were unable to hire a trans person for a specific position, the non-trans person...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” has no shortage of high-profile guest judges who have stepped behind the desk to evaluate its contestants. But judge Michelle Visage recently revealed one of the show’s most-wanted guest judges, Dolly Parton, has been dodging their requests for more than 10 seasons.
Parton is unquestionably a queer icon, but Visage said the queen of country’s schedule just doesn’t allow for the star to commit to judging.
“Just to let everybody know we have asked Dolly Parton for 11, 12, 13 years,” Visage told the Huffington Post in an interview Tuesday. “At the end of the day it’s scheduling, and it’s a very long day for these people.”
Visage also said that the show has asked several other LGBTQ icons, including Cher and Liza Minelli, who’ve also had to decline because of scheduling conflicts. “RuPaul’s Drag Race” worked for years to get contemporary pop icon Lady Gaga...
