He landed at Sundance in the U.S. Dramatic Competition with Ballast in 2008 and would end up winning the Directing Award and Cinematography Award (Lol Crawley) and would end up receiving a lot of recognition via the Gothams and Indie Spirits and then Lance Hammer disappeared from the filmmaking scene … that is until last April when he shot his sophomore feature in London with the great Juliette Binoche. While Queen at Sea could definitely look towards other A list film fests, we’re hoping for a Park City return. Binoche is featured alongside Tom Courtenay, Anna Calder-Marshall and Florence Hunt, and cinematographer Adolpho Veloso is also onboard.…...

We were in almost in disbelief when Juliette Binoche casually mentioned back in January of last year that she was in a new work from Lance Hammer. A major news bombshell dropped this morning as we learn that Queen At Sea has indeed moved into production. Alongside Binoche we find players Tom Courtenay, Anna Calder-Marshall and Florence Hunt added to the roster. The Bureau is producing the project and cinematographer Adolpho Veloso is onboard. Production is unfolding in the United Kingdom.
We’ll being paying close attention to this project but we know that is revolves around a woman (Binoche) who moves back to London with her teenage daughter (Hunt) amid concern for her ageing mother (Calder-Marshall).…...

Exclusive: Oscar winner Juliette Binoche (The English Patient), Oscar nominee and BAFTA winner Tom Courtenay (Doctor Zhivago), Emmy winner Anna Calder-Marshall (Wuthering Heights) and Bridgerton breakout Florence Hunt are currently filming under-the-radar feature drama Queen At Sea in the UK.
Plot is largely being kept under wraps but we understand Binoche will play a woman who moves back to London with her teenage daughter (Hunt) amid concern for her ageing mother (Calder-Marshall).
The film will mark the second feature for writer-director Lance Hammer who 15 years ago made his debut with well-received Sundance drama Ballast, which won two awards in Park City, and played a host of festivals before winning the filmmaker a Gotham award for breakthrough director and garnering six Indie Sprit nominations.
Hammer, now in his 50s, went quiet after his debut 15 years ago so there will be intrigue around his second feature. Prior to Ballast the filmmaker was...

Warning: contains finale spoilers for Strike Series 5
The farting was plot-relevant! Oh, me of little faith. What first appeared to be a dubious tonal choice for the scene in which Cormoran and Robin conducted a murder witness interview through a parping orchestra of old lady guffs turned out to be a pivotal clue. The farts and the murders were caused (if not committed) by the same person!
That person was former nurse, current psychopath and serial poisoner Janice Beattie (played in the present day by small screen powerhouse Anna Calder-Marshall), a killer who displayed her murderous trophies just as flagrantly as Dennis Creed, and who evaded capture for far longer. Janice and her cupboardful of poisons were making pal Irene Hickson unwell, hence her rotting-sheep-in-a-ditch flatulence. In case anybody missed a detail in the Troubled Blood finale, here’s how it all played out.
What Happened to Dr Margot Bamborough?...

Actor Tom Burke has reflected on how influential his godfather, the late Alan Rickman, was on his life.
Rickman died of cancer in 2016, at the age of 69. He was a good friend of Tom Burke’s parents – actors David Burke and Anna Calder-Marshall.
Talking about Rickman in a new interview with The Observer, Tom Burke said: “When Alan died, Juliet Stevenson got it right when she said we’ve lost a king. You did sometimes feel like you were at Alan’s court. He had a sense of mission about him and was invested in so many people.
“Even if you only met him once, he could become a momentary huge influence in your life. He had a way of asking very penetrating questions, often without necessarily meaning to. People would walk away and make quite big life decisions.”
Burke also said he had started reading Rickman’s diaries, which...

The ‘alt-right’ actor turns in a capable performance in this somewhat oddball family reunion drama
There’s no point in a fictional family reunion where long-buried resentments don’t painfully but cathartically resurface – and maybe no point in such a family reunion in real life, either. Dictynna Hood’s flawed, interesting low-budget indie is a vehemently performed, slightly Shakespearean drama, set over a few days in a Dartmoor farmhouse – the title appears to be about the area’s standing stones, though there are reminiscences of a shivery childhood visit to Stonehenge.
Here, ageing matriarch and former hippy Marianne (Anna Calder-Marshall) and her testy husband Richard (Oliver Cotton) have summoned the extended clan for Marianne’s birthday because she is very ill, and possibly even dying. (“Here’s to the remission of sins and cancer!” runs one toast over the fractious dinner.)...

Fifteen years after co-producing and directing the British Victorian-era war classic Zulu, Cy Endfield brought an epic prequel to the story to the screen with Zulu Dawn. Unlike the original film, however, this 1979 release suffered from a bungled and scatter shot North American release that ensured that very few Yanks or Canadians ever had the opportunity to see the film in theaters. Botched release notwithstanding, the movie is in many ways as good as its predecessor, even if the screenplay falls short on presenting the main characters in a fully developed way. The story pertains to the greatest British military defeat of its era as the Victorian penchant for colonialism extended into South Africa. Initially the indigenous Zulu tribes had a cordial relationship with the British, but a foolish change in political strategy saw increasing incursions onto Zulu territory. The Zulu king went to great lengths to...

27 year old Luke (represented in the UK by Hamilton Hodell) already has an impressive CV of film and TV roles. On 21 March 2012, the British horror cinema lost of one of its most interesting and distinctive talents, director Robert Fuest. Although his association with the genre was very brief, he achieved cult status for directing two very popular slices of classic English Gothic, The Abominable Dr Phibes (1971) and Dr Phibes Rises Again (1972).
A former set designer with a unique visual flare, Fuest represented a group of innovative and original film-makers that formed an important part of the horror genre of the late sixties and early seventies. These luminaries included Roman Polanski, Michael Reeves, Peter Sasdy, Daniel Haller and Curtis Harrington. Fuest came on the scene much later on, and like his colleagues before him, never quite fulfilled his early promise. Its fair to say Fuest never had much of a chance. The horror genre of the late sixties was beginning to lose direction, both artistically and commercially, and by the mid seventies,...
