Following the lead of the Sundance Film Festival itself, the ASCAP Music Cafe that usually takes place during the festival will be going virtual for a second consecutive year. ASCAP’s web offerings for the 2022 fest will feature performances by Brandy Clark, John Doe and the teaming of Evan Rachel Wood and Zane Carney, among others, along with panels including composers who scored films premiering as part of Sundance.
The 24th annual edition of the performing rights organization’s Music Cafe will go down in the online Sundance Film Festival Village over a period of four days. The performances will take place Jan. 21-22, followed by panel discussions Jan. 23-24 billed as part of “ASCAP Screen Time,” the org’s ongoing interview series about the art and business of film composing.

Evan Rachel Wood directed a big middle finger at her ex and alleged abuser Marilyn Manson while performing a cover of the New Radicals’ “You Get What You Give” at the Bourbon Room in Hollywood Saturday night.
Wood performed the cover with the help of guitarist Zane Carney, reading the lyrics off a phone, but delivering an impassioned vocal performance. The big moment came, of course, when Wood arrived at the song’s famous bridge, and held her middle finger high as she sang, “Fashion shoots with Beck and Hanson...

Evan Rachel Wood is a woman of many talents.
Whether she’s portraying a character on the big screen or showing off her powerful vocals on stage while covering songs from the large “rolodex” in her mind, the Westworld actress says she “can’t help but not feel the music and turn it into a story.”
“I think I consume much more music than I do film because it’s a language that makes more sense to me — a well-rounded language that’s much more subtle and intricate than English to me,” she tells People about combining her skills. “I...

Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger's relationship status seems, well, complicated. Lavigne, 31, shared a picture of herself and the Nickelback frontman, 41, playing instruments in the recording studio Tuesday night. She did not include an Instagram caption, which led some of her fans to wonder whether they've reunited; others argued that the photo speaks for itself. "Please stay together," one commenter wrote. "You're my last hope on love." Another fan added, "I love you Chavril!" Lavigne wasn't alone with Kroeger, though, as she also spent time in the studio with musicians Zane Carney and Stephan Hovsepian. The singer-songwriter has been busy working on the follow-up to her self-titled...

Ray J might not have taken the classiest approach when it came to casting a Kim Kardashian look-alike in the music video for his unsubtle new single "I Hit It First," but he's far from the first musician to passive aggressively take a jab at an ex in that format. Here's a look back at some of the other artists who used the same technique to reference those they once had feelings for.
Taylor Swift, "I Knew You Were Trouble"
Many speculated about who Taylor Swift was singing about in her single "I Knew You Were Trouble" music video, but she made it pretty clear that it was John Mayer when an actor who looks just like him, Reeve Carney, was cast for her love interest in the video. Fun fact: Carney's brother Zane Carney plays guitar with Mayer.

The series I want to highlight in today's Indie Spotlight is a talky comedy about two friends who must battle the trials associated with life in New York City. The first word of the title begins with 'B' and the second word is City. Sound familiar? The series is called Big City, and it reminds me of Broad City in several ways: it has a lightning-quick pace, it utilizes notable names from the local acting community, and, yes, it's quite funny. Big City follows Josie and Dan, a pair of neurotic, platonic roommates who live in Brooklyn and deal with various annoyances, such as out-of-tune subway guitarists, perpetually late public transit, and, in the first episode, the navigational issues faced by smartphone-less Americans. While the Big Apple is undeniably the series' muse, its themes will resonate with anyone who has ever been frustrated by life in a titular Big City.

News involving the "Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark" musical hasn't exactly been optimistic lately, with previously cast Green Goblin actor Alan Cumming and the show's Mary Jane Watson actress Evan Rachel Wood both leaving the production after multiple delays.
However, lead actor Reeve Carney is still planning to make his debut as Peter Parker this fall, and shared some details about it when he dropped by MTV HQ this afternoon with his band, Carney. In fact, the musician-turned-actor said he's trying on the Spider-Man suit today!
"No joke — right after this, I'm going to get fitted for my Spider-Man suit," he told MTV News. "As soon as I put this microphone down... This is actually not a joke."
Before he exited the building to try on his Spidey suit, Carney revealed how he landed the gig — and how the rest of the band will make their debut in the production,...
