If India ever had a star, it was Dev Anand. He was the mould in which subsequent generations of stars were cast. Dev Anand was born Dharamdev on September 26, 1923, in the Shakargarh tehsil of Gurdaspur district of Punjab. His father Pishori Lal Anand was a successful advocate and a follower of Mahatma Gandhi. Dev, the third of four brothers, graduated with English Honours from Government College, Lahore. He moved over to Bombay to join his older brother Chetan, who was trying to get a break in films.
Both brothers got involved in the progressive Indian People’s Theatre Association (Ipta). Chetan made ‘Neecha Nagar’ in 1946 and went on to win the Grand Prix at the inaugural Cannes film festival.

The Ott platforms operating in India over the last four years have come a full circle. Having so far sanctioned episodic streaming content, and bought ready-to-beam films, these platform-operating companies will now produce films. This ventures will be undertaken, albeit, in collaboration with established production houses, preferably with one run and owned by an actor or a regular production house with a good standing. Makes things easier that way.
Amazon Prime is the first to make an announcement to actively get involved in filmmaking. The company's first venture will be Ram Setu.
Disney+ Hotstar is expected to enter production as well, and an announcement can be expected by September this year.
Not long ago, the way films are made in India changed drastically when the big-buck corporate houses entered the scene. They went after names rather than content and ended up backing projects instead of creativity. Script and other aspects...

The silver screen was the term that described the cinema experience in the dark of a cinema hall. The two people who conceived and executed this magic were the writer and the director. A writer dream't up a story and its background, as in where it all happened, and the director executed those dreams of the writer. But, the one who really made it possible for the two was the art director.
The art director created a location, and the ambience the writer imagined, in a studio set measuring just a few hundred square meters. However huge it may be, the art director made you believe that what you were watching on screen was taking place in Shimla or on the Hooghly River in Bengal or a palatial bungalow of a rich man, or even a cruise liner or a warship! The breed called art directors could get into the writer's mind.

At a recent event, the multi-talented Farhan Akhtar revealed his next home production with Ritesh Sidhwani Jugnu. The shoot for the same is expected to begin in the month of October. Keeping the mystery intact, Farhan did not mention the theme of his next movie. It remains for the fans to wait to know of Farhan Akhtar?s role in the project. Would it be as a scriptwriter, as an actor, as a director-producer, or would a new talent be revealed, all to know in good time?
The title of the film takes us back more than four decades back to a Dharmendra starrer with the same title Jugnu. It also featured Hema Malini, Lalita Pawar, Mehmood, Prem Chopra, Nazir Hussain, Ajit, and Pran. Producer-Director Pramod Chakravorty?s Jugnu was about an extremely intelligent crook with a ?Golden? heart who had a remarkable ability to steal from the most protected setups.

New Delhi, July 17: Exorbitant budgets, corporatisation of the filmmaking process and the rise of new 'costly' stars pushed Bollywood's old production houses into oblivion. We’ve seen an ‘event’ful week with promotional jigs for Bol Bachchan, Cocktail and Barfi along with restaurant and magazine launches. But while known names like Priyanka Chopra, Nargis Fakhri, Sophie Choudry, Ileana D’Cruz, Jiah Khan, Shriya Saran and Shazahn Padamsee vied for attention, one name that shined naturally bright was Bollywood newbie Evelyn Sharma.
No wonder, fashion hotspace Style Me India has chosen this half-Indian half-German model-turned-actress among ‘the best dressed celebs’ who sashayed at parties last week.
A thoughtful choice indeed; considering Evelyn not only turned heads at various fashion and corporate events, but also shared the stage with the ladies man Akshay Kumar at the music launch of her debut film From Sydney With Love (Fswl).
Shaking up the fashion world off late, Evelyn stole the show when she wore a stunning pink dress with an adorable hairdo at the Blackberry Porsche event, followed by...

New Delhi, July 12: Grandfather Pramod Chakravorty produced "Love In Tokyo" and now Prateek Chakravorty revives the family banner with "From Sydney With Love". He hopes to bring the banner back in the reckoning by making sensible films rather following any trend.

Eight years later, Prateek is ready with "From Sydney With Love" that releases July 27. This year also marks 50 years of the banner.
Prateek says "he wants to follow the principles of making sensible films".
"This is what I will do when it comes to reviving Pramod Films..

The stunningly beautiful half-German half-Indian international model Evelyn Sharma first became the cynosure of all eyes, when she accompanied her designer friend Rocky S to the Ritesh Deshmukh-Genelia Sangeet ceremony before their wedding.
A far contrast from everyone dressed in traditional Indian outfits, Evelyn walked in wearing bright red jeans! Normally, anyone who’d do that at a Sangeet would risk a lot of frowns. But Evelyn’s poise and charm seemed to have unarmed everyone.
Following praise, she turned showstopper for Rocky, setting the ramp on fire at the Lakme Fashion Week! Some time later, she caught glances from the likes of Kangana Ranaut, Sameera Reddy, Madhur Bhandarkar and host Sohail Khan at the Provogue Royalty Fashion Nights launch.
And now, the latest is that Rocky S has signed the girl up as the face of his campaign Vilasa. Here, Evelyn sports a lot of Indian attires.
