The French-American actress, Julie Delpy, is known for her natural talent, acting skills, and dedication to her craft. Born in Paris, France, Delpy had early exposure to the arts, thanks to her parents. Her father, Albert Delpy, and mother, Marie Pillet, are both actors. They co-starred with Delphy as her on-screen parents in 2 Days in Paris (2007). Besides acting, Delphy has an accomplished career as a film director, screenwriter, and singer-songwriter. Although born in France, Delpy, an alumnus of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, moved to the United States in 1990 and became a citizen in 2001. She...

Leading French producer Michael Gentile’s Paris-based outfit The Film is about to start shooting Julie Delpy’s next directorial outing, “The Barbarians,” and Laurence Arné’s “Les Hennedricks” starring Dany Boon.
Delpy’s comeback to French filmmaking since “Lolo,” “The Barbarians” is a satirical comedy unfolding in a small town in Brittany which is preparing to welcome Ukrainian refugees after voting unanimously to greet them in exchange for subsidies from the government. But instead of seeing Ukrainians come into town, they see Syrian refugees, causing some tensions among locals and testing their liberal beliefs. Delpy will star in the film opposite Sandrine Kiberlain (“Mademoiselle Chambon”), Laurent Lafitte (“Elle”) and Ziad Bakri (“The Weekend Away”), India Hair (“Angry Annie”), Mathieu Demy (“The Bureau”) and Delpy’s father Albert Delpy.
Delpy penned the script with Matthieu Rumani (“Family Business”), in collaboration with Lea Domenech (“Bernadette”). “The Barbarians” will start filming on...

"I need more action. I need more blood." The very last country to debut this film years after its premiere. Picturehouse Entertainment has debuted one final UK trailer for the wacky, weird, killer film from French filmmaker Quentin Dupieux titled Deerskin. This originally premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 in Directors' Fortnight, and already opened last year in the US. The film stars Oscar-winner Jean Dujardin as a man who loves his new deerskin jacket. Maybe a bit too much. His obsession with this special jacket causes him to blow his life savings and turn to crime. And snuff films? The cast includes Adèle Haenel, Albert Delpy, Coralie Russier, Laurent Nicolas, and Pierre Gommé. Even though we've seen plenty of trailers, this poster for the film might just be the best one yet. View below. Here's the official UK trailer (+ quad UK poster) for Quentin Dupieux's Deerskin, direct from...

It would be a massive understatement to call the works of filmmaker Quentin Dupieux “weird.” After all, this is the man who made a movie about a malevolent tire as his big breakthrough. Rubber certainly put him on the map, but interestingly, his latest film Deerskin is what may finally endear him to a larger crowd. To be sure, this is still a very odd flick, but it’s powered by a strong lead performance, a low-key charm, and a slow burn to its unusual nature. This won’t be for everyone, but in terms of Dupieux, it’s going to be for more people than ever before. The film is a black comedy that slowly veers into horror territory. Georges (Jean Dujardin) its recently divorced and on a long road trip to a small French alpine village. Along the way, he stops and pays a man (Albert Delpy) a...

Filmmaker and actress Julie Delpy knows what people expect of her. The star and co-writer of Richard Linklater’s “Before” trilogy and the director of such bubbly romantic dramedies as “2 Days in Paris” and its sequel “2 Days in New York” may have made her acting debut for no less than Jean-Luc Godard, but she’s been kept in a certain kind of industry bubble for the last two decades.
She’s done with that now. For her latest directorial outing, passion project “My Zoe,” Delpy moves away from romances and chatty comedies into something both wholly unexpected and more personal than anything else she’s ever made. When Delpy describes the feature, a thriller debuting in Tiff’s filmmaker-centric Platform section this week, she uses the kind of descriptors that wouldn’t fit anything else she’s made during her three-decade-long career. Words like “harsh,” “unforgiving,” and “not very kind.

Stars: Jean-Luc Couchard, Mélanie Gaydos, Thierry Frémont, Zelie Rixhon, Albert Delpy, Loïc Houdré, Xavier Mussel, Adeline Walter | Written and Directed by Quarxx
Expanded from his own short (A Nearly Perfect Blue Sky), this unsettling body horror from self-monikered director Quarxx slots neatly into the New French Extremity movement, popularised by the likes of Martyrs, Frontiere(s) and Haute Tension. By turns queasy, disturbing and unexpectedly moving, it’s an accomplished and divisive debut that marks a strong calling card for its writer-director-editor.
Jean-Luc Couchard plays Simon, a 30 year old factory worker who lives in the remote French countryside with his younger sister Estelle (Melanie Gaydos), who was left severely disabled after a childhood game went horribly wrong. Haunted by guilt and fiercely protective of his sister, Simon goes to extreme lengths to protect her when social services come calling. Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke have been together for 18 years -- well, on-screen that is. The stars of Richard Linklater's "Before" trilogy stepped out last night to celebrate the premiere of "Before Midnight," the conclusion to the drama- and romance-filled series, in L.A. Delpy looked radiant in a red, lace-embroidered dress, accessorized with matching red lips, while Hawke wore a classic navy suit and button-down shirt. As mentioned, "Before Midnight" is the final installment of writer-directer Linklater's story about Celine (Delpy) and Jesse (Hawke), two strangers who met, and fell in love, on a train to Vienna almost two decades ago in the film "Before Sunrise." The sequel to "Sunrise," "Before Sunset," caught back up with Jesse and Celine nine years later in Paris, after Jesse had written a book about their encounter. In "Before Midnight," we find the couple in their early 40s, in Greece, taking on...

Five years after Julie Delpy introduced her neurotic character Marion and her oddball family in 2 Days in Paris, the actress/writer/director reunites several of the same characters in the romantic comedy 2 Days in New York, opening in Austin this week.
Unfortunately Delpy's real-life mother Marie Pillet, who played Marion's mom in the first film, passed away in 2009. However, Delpy's father Albert Delpy returns as Marion's eccentric father Jeannot, with Alexia Landeau along as Marion's boyfriend-stealing sister Rose. Ex-boyfriend Manu (Alexandre Nahon) also makes an appearance, but he's less suave and more buffoonish than in the first film, and even fat family cat Jean-Luc makes a cameo.
Marion is no longer with her neurotic boyfriend Jack from 2 Days in Paris, and continues to live in New York with their child as well as new American boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock) and his daughter. When Marion's family travels to New York and stays in their small apartment,...

Review by Le Movie Snob
I really wanted to like this movie.
I like Julie Delpy.
I like that she took an unexpected Johnny Depp-like career turn upon first becoming successful: she decided not to let her stunning looks lull her into a guaranteed successful, complacent career.
She moved to a foreign country, mastered English, and didn’t just say she was going to direct, she really did direct and wrote a successful screenplay (Before Sunset). And she proved a triple threat: writing directing, and starring in 2 Days in Paris which was a nicely paced, accurately funny depiction of the Franco-American culture clash.
Understandably, I had high expectations for her follow up. Hence, the fall was steep.
Here’s what I wasn’t expecting at all:
I wasn’t expecting to be bored by Chris Rock.
I wasn’t expecting to hate French people.

Chicago – Julie Delpy’s “2 Days in New York” is an amenable screwball comedy with some jokes that definitely fall flat and some awkward emotional beats in the final act but a likable tone that allows for easy passage over the screenwriting rough spots. Ms. Delpy is still charming and co-star Chris Rock is more effective here than he typically is in film. It’s just a likable little movie without pretension to be anything more.
The film is a sequel to Delpy’s “2 Days in Paris,” in which she played half of a couple with Adam Goldberg as they spent some awkward moments in the city of lights. This time, Goldberg is gone as Margot has moved on from that relationship and travelled with her son to New York, where she has fallen in love with a radio talk show host named Mingus (Rock). Title: 2 Days in New York Director: Julie Delpy Starring: Julie Delpy, Chris Rock, Albert Delpy, Alexia Landeau, Alex Nahon, Dylan Baker, Kate Burton, Malinda Williams Nobody can push buttons of exasperation and pull levers of hair-trigger emotional reaction quite like family — those folks who know all of the faces of the past you’ve tried to shake and shed. Editor’s note: With 2 Days in New York opening in limited release this Friday, here is a re-run of our review from Sundance, when it was the only film that could perk an exhausted Kate up on Festival Day 26. This review was originally posted on January 29, 2012. Picking up a few years where her 2 Days in Paris left off, Julie Delpy‘s 2 Days in New York has moved the sometimes-messy life of Marion (Delpy) to Gotham. Marion has now taken up with Mingus (Chris Rock, playing a pitch-perfect straight man), a former co-worker who offered dry humor and personal understanding when her previous relationship crumbled. The pair live together in a cozy and artistic apartment, joined by Marion’s young son Lulu (Owen Shipman) and Mingus’ daughter Willow (Talen Ruth Riley). As calm and lovely as their life together seems, everything is about to be tested over a brief two-day period, marked...

Trading Woody to Team Europe might not turn out to be such a bad deal for us if Team New York gets to keep Julie Delpy. The French actress’s second directorial feature — a follow-up to 2007’s 2 Days in Paris — turns out to be an assured, sensitive, and occasionally very funny relationship comedy that, much like Allen at his best, takes sharply drawn and recognizable characters and stretches them until something fascinating emerges.Delpy plays Marion, a French artist living in New York with her live-in boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock); they each have kids from previous relationships, and the film opens with a puppet show explaining the circumstances whereby this very modern and very New York couple came to live together. Meanwhile, at JFK, Marion’s family — her father Jeannot (played by Albert Delpy, the director-star’s real father), her sister Rose (Alexia Landeau), and Rose’s boyfriend and Marion...

2 Days in New York
Written by Julie Delpy and Alexia Landeau
Directed by Julie Delpy
France/Germany/Belgium, 2012
Julie Delpy’s 2 Days in Paris, which documented her character’s struggling relationship with American boyfriend Jack (Adam Goldberg) while visiting her home city of Paris, was a rewarding comedy with pleasing one-note simplicity. Arriving five years later and set four years after, 2 Days in New York operates both as a sequel to that film and as a standalone entity. Disregarding the streamlined focus of the first film, this follow-up takes on an array of often soft targets and disappointingly favours a much broader brand of humour that isn’t nearly as successful.
Delpy’s Marion conceived a son with Jack during the interim between films, but they have since split up and Marion is now living with Chris Rock’s Mingus, who has a daughter of his own. Marion’s established...

Magnolia Pictures' 2 Days in New York has 2 new clips for the comedy starring Chris Rock, July Delpy, Albert Delpy, Alexia Landeau, Alexandre Nahon, Kate Burton, Dylan Baker and Daniel Brühl. The film opens on July 6th on VOD and is helmed by July Delpy who scripts alongside Alexia Landeau. In 2 Days in New York, Marion and Mingus live cozily—perhaps too cozily—with their cat and two young children from previous relationships. However, when Marion’s jolly father (played by director Delpy’s real-life dad), her oversexed sister, and her sister’s outrageous boyfriend unceremoniously descend upon them for a visit, it initiates two unforgettable days that will test Marion and Mingus’s relationship. With their unwitting racism and sexual frankness, the French triumvirate hilariously has no boundaries or filters...and no person is left unscathed in its wake.

This week, a film that was a wonderful surprise rather than the big disappointment that was “Moonrise Kingdom.” I went to see Julie Delpy’s “2 Days in New York” on a whim: the employee at the ticket desk at the Odeon Covent Garden actually tried to talk me out of it. She thought I would prefer “Jeff Who Lives At Home”: although she hadn’t seen it, she had seen “2 Days in New York” and didn’t like it. Happily, like any self-respecting film critic, I had to see the film for myself. On a side note, bravo, Odeon Covent Garden, for being a bright spark in an overall grim world of chain cinemas: tastes may differ, but the people who work there clearly have a genuine interest in auteur cinema. When I went to see “Moonrise Kingdom” there, the man who sold me the ticket was counting the...

See Julie Delpy and Chris Rock in the new trailer for 2 Days in New York directed and co-written by Delpy. The film premieres on VOD July 6 and opens in theaters August 10, 2012. Marion and Mingus live cozily—perhaps too cozily—with their cat and two young children from previous relationships. Also in the cast are Albert Delpy, Alexia Landeau, Alexandre Nahon, Kate Burton, Dylan Baker and Daniel Brühl.

As a writer and director, not to mention star, Julie Delpy made quite a splash with the quirky romantic comedy 2 Days in Paris about five years ago, and now she's back with a sequel, that also works as a standalone film, with 2 Days in New York, and the trailer has just arrived. This time it's Chris Rock, in his best film in years, as Delpy's significant other, and the chemistry between them is superb. We caught this film at Sundance and it's really a great indie comedy. Some of Delpy's pecular family from the first film are back, including Delpy's real-life father Albert Delpy, who is absolutely hilarious and steals every scene. Here's the first trailer for Julie Delpy's 2 Days in New York, in high def originally from Apple: Julie Delpy writers, directs, produces and stars in 2 Days in New York, a follow-up to her 2007 film 2 ...

The trailer and poster for Julie Delpy's 2 Days in New York have debuted at iTunes Movie Trailers and you can check them out below. Delpy stars opposite Chris Rock, Albert Delpy, Alexia Landeau and Alex Nahon in the romantic comedy drama. The film sees Marion, now broken up with Jack and living in New York with their child. A visit from her family, the different cultural background of her new boyfriend, her sister's ex-boyfriend, and her upcoming photo exhibition make for an explosive mix. 2 Days in New York opens in a limited release on August 10th.

A batch of five new movie posters arrived over the last couple of days that I never got around to posting so I thought I'd take the time now to share. The films included Lionsgate's new dark comic actioner Dredd starring Karl Urban, the unnecessary Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D, Julie Delpy's 2 Days in New York, the "found footage" cop drama End of Watch and, finally, a poster for the 3-D re-release of Finding Nemo. I broke the post up over two pages and included a few words on each film. Enjoy. First is the poster for the movie no one asked for, Katy Perry: Part of Me 3D, which will give fans a look at the life of Katy Perry on and off the stage. Exciting! The film hits theaters on July 5. It might sound like hyperbole, but it's true: writer, actress and director Julie Delpy deserves to be among the first names that come to mind in the comedy-of-manners canon, among the likes of Woody Allen, Whit Stillman and Noah Baumbach. An unlikely sequel to the already underrated "2 Days In Paris," Delpy's latest, "2 Days In New York," picks up with her hyper-neurotic Marion character who has broken up with Jack (Adam Goldberg from the first film) and now lives in New York with their child and her new American boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock). But when her eccentric father (played by Albert Delpy, her real-life father), her sister Rose and an ex-boyfriend decide to come visit and stay in the couple's cramped New York apartment, their cultural and language barriers make for a hilarious clash of personalities and personal spaces.

If there’s one thing I learned from Julie Delpy’s wonderfully eccentric dramedy, it’s that Parisians are as neurotic as New Yorkers. Who knew? Director Delpy follows up on her 2007 2 Days in Paris (which I have not seen, but will now make a point of hunting down) with the continuing misadventures of her Marion, living in the Big Apple with her young son... and sharing quarters with new American boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock [Grown Ups], who has never been this sweetly appealing onscreen) and his young daughter. Their pleasantly chaotic household is thrown into unpleasant upheaval for a couple of days when her French family comes to visit just as she’s also finishing the preparations for a major exhibition of her photography. You cannot take any of it at face value: Her father, for one, is just a notch below an outrageous stereotype, and several notches above just plain outrageousness.

The Dictator (15)
(Larry Charles, 2012, Us) Sacha Baron Cohen, Anna Faris, Jason Mantzoukas, Ben Kingsley, John C Reilly. 83 mins
Having run out of unsuspecting Americans to prank, Sacha Baron Cohen takes the conventional fish-out-of-water route this time, as his Arab tyrant comes to terms with western democracy. But if the story plays it safe, the comedy treads a risky line between lampooning Islamophobia and fuelling it. The high gag rate, animated performance and general broad-spectrum offensiveness help him get away with murder, and worse.
The Raid (18)
(Gareth Evans, 2011, Indon/Us) Iko Uwais, Joe Taslim, Yayan Ruhian. 101 mins
Throwing more punches than every other movie this year combined, this single-minded Indonesian martial arts epic doesn't let up until everyone in its baddy-infested apartment block, and the auditorium, is pummelled into submission. Pacifists, look away now.

She's been fired by every acting agency in town, refused an invite to Vanity Fair's Oscars bash, even pimps wouldn't fund her films … so how is Julie Delpy still making movies?
Julie Delpy wrote 2 Days In New York because it struck her, looking around, that most Hollywood romcoms were hilariously awful in their depictions of women her age. That is, women in their late 30s and early 40s. The Anistons and Barrymores who, on screen at least, are still "having the problems of a 25-year-old. Like, should I date him, should I not date him? Should I have sex with him but tell him I don't like him? Ok. I mean, I have friends who are still single, but even they don't ask themselves those kind of questions. The 26th-29th April sees the Sundance London Film and Music festival hit the O2 Arena, which sees the festival – renowned for its programme of independent film – take place in the UK for the first time in its 34-year history.
As a Sundance newbie, I am excited to attend the indie festival. I’ve always heard so many great things about it, especially as a lot of great films initially got noticed at previous Sundance fests (Napoleon Dynamite, Clerks, Reservoir Dogs).
Looking at the line-up, I expect the cream of the crop of forthcoming independent releases.
Here are the following that I’m keeping my eye on during the festival:
For Ellen

The Sundance Institute and The O2 announced today the programme of 14 narrative and documentary feature films that will make their UK premieres at the inaugural Sundance London festival, taking place at The O2 from 26-29 April. These films premiered in January at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah – the premier independent film festival in the United States.
“I welcome the opportunity to see how people in the UK experience these films,” said Robert Redford, President and Founder of Sundance Institute. “While they are American productions they speak to universal experiences and global challenges.”
He went on to add, “Sundance London also is the perfect opportunity to continue our long-time commitment to growing a broader international community around new voices and new perspectives.”

2012 will be the first year that Sundance comes to London and we here at HeyUGuys are very excited about it. It takes place 26th – 29th April and we’re hoping to be there to cover as much of the event as is possible.
Incase you’re not familiar with Sundance, it is a spin-off from the big Us event which takes place in Park City, Utah at the beginning of the year. In a nutshell, Sundance is a four-day festival that will include film screenings, live music performances, discussions, panels and other public cultural programming will be held 26 – 29 April, 2012 at The O2 in London. Robert Redford is due to open the festival with a discussion connecting film and music. ‘An Evening with Robert Redford and T Bone Burnett’ will be moderated by author and screenwriter Nick Hornby.

Magnolia picked up Julie Delpy's 2 Days in New York for domestic distribution, but the film, in which Delpy co-stars opposite Chris Rock, will hit French theaters on March 28 after debuting at the Sundance Film Festival in January. As a result, an international teaser trailer from France has arrived giving you a brief look at the romantic dramedy. The film is a follow-up to Delpy's 2007 feature 2 Days in Paris in which she co-starred opposite Adam Goldberg. That film was actually pretty good, if not a little over-bearing considering there is such a thing as too much Adam Goldberg. Here's the synopsis for 2 Days in New York: Marion (Julie Delpy) and Mingus (Chris Rock) live cozily--perhaps too cozily--with their cat and two young children from previous relationships. However, when Marion's jolly father (played by director Delpy's real-life father Albert Delpy), her oversexed sister, and her sister's outrageous boyfriend unceremoniously descend upon them for a visit,...

Actress/director Julie Delpy turned the set of her movie 2 Days In New York into a family affair by casting her real-life dad as her onscreen father.
In the movie, Delpy's character Marion is paid a visit by her sister Rose and eccentric father Jeannot in the Big Apple, who clash when they meet her boyfriend Marcus, played by funnyman Chris Rock.
And the French beauty admits it didn't take too long to get into character since she got to team up with her theatre director dad Albert Delpy in the film.
But the actress has warned fans not to expect too many similarities, telling New York Magazine, "My dad isn’t like that in real life. It’s a character, he’s not like that at all...Totally fictional from A to Z."...

As most of us anticipated, Magnolia ended up being one of the big players at this year’s Sundance, snatching up films — with stars big, small, and somewhere in-between — left and right. Don’t believe me? Well, the past 24 hours alone have seen them make three acquisitions that could all be in discussion by the end of this year. If you catch my drift.
First, up THR tells us that they’ve purchased Compliance, Craig Zobel‘s (reportedly excellent) real-life drama that chronicles the way in which a man (Pat Healy), pretending to be a police officer, was able to send the life of a young girl, Sandra (Ann Dowd), straight to hell. (THR goes into some further plot details that, to an unknowing viewer like myself, come across as spoilers.) And, lucky for Compliance, it ended up being this year’s obligatory “Sundance movie that pisses off certain members of the audience,...

Park City, Ut – The Wagner/Cuban Company’s Magnolia Pictures announced today they have acquired North American rights to 2 Days In New York, a delightful and sophisticated follow-up to her 2007 hit, 2 Days in Paris. 2 Days In New York stars Delpy, Chris Rock, Delpy’s real life father Albert Delpy, and was produced by Christophe Mazodier. A witty comedy about relationships, art, and clashing cultures, 2 Days In New York picks up again with Marion (Delpy), now living in New York City with her attentive boyfriend Mingus (Rock), each with a child from a previous relationship. Their idyllic lifestyle is turned upside-down when Marion’s eccentric father comes to stay for a few days, along with Marion’s oversexed sister (Alexia Landeau) and her sleazy boyfriend (Alex Nahon)—and proceed to drive Mingus absolutely crazy. Magnolia will release the film through its Ultra VOD program later this year, with a robust theatrical release in major markets.

Julie Delpy made quite the impression on me in her seminal Sundance film Before Sunrise and its sequel, Before Sunset. She's back at this year's festival, this time as a writer/director of a different sequel, 2 Days in New York. Following the events of 2 Days in Paris, Delpy plays Marion, a single mom who has moved in with her boyfriend Mingus (Chris Rock), who has a child of his own from a previous relationship. Marion is a photographer, and her exhibition is set to happen in the same week her father Jeannot (played by Delpy's real father, Albert Delpy) and sister Rose (Alexia Landeau, who co-wrote this film) fly in to visit from France. Also in tow is Manu (Alexandre Nahon), Rose's impetuous dolt of a boyfriend who used to date Marion.
While the movie features some of the hallmarks of the Before... series, I didn't like this one nearly as much.

It's a sequel, of course, to 2 Days in Paris, but Salon's Andrew O'Hehir, introducing an interview with Julie Delpy and Chris Rock, assures us that "it really doesn't matter whether you've seen the earlier movie. Jack, the American boyfriend played by Adam Goldberg in 2 Days in Paris, has evidently moved on (leaving behind a young son), and Delpy's character, Marion, is now shacking up with a Village Voice journalist and radio host named Mingus, who has a daughter of his own. (Rock even says the character is based on the prominent African-American journalists Nelson George and Elvis Mitchell.) Rock gets some decent laugh lines, but he isn't doing improv or stand-up material here — although he does deliver two monologues to a cardboard cutout of Barack Obama."
What sets the story in motion is the arrival of Marion's family from Paris for an extended stay. The Boston Globe's Ty Burr: "Dad (Albert Delpy,...

Oscar-nominated actress-cum-filmmaker Julie Delpy's filmmaking debut 2 Days In Paris centered on Marion (Delpy), a photographer struggling in her relationship with her neurotic, American boyfriend, Jack (Adam Goldberg). The film went on to become a huge indie hit, grossing nearly $20 million worldwide. The French-American filmmaker has returned with a sequel of sorts, and enlisted comedian Chris Rock to play Mingus, her new boyfriend. The couple lives together in New York with a child from Marion’s previous relationship with Jack and things are going smoothly—that is, until her family, including father Jeannot (Albert Delpy, her real-life Dad) and sister, Rose (Alexia Landeau), decides to pay the couple a visit following the death of Marion’s mother. Rose’s new boyfriend, who just happens to be one of Marion’s exes, ratchets up the awkwardness, attempting to impress Mingus by quoting Salt-n-Pepa and buying weed in plain sight. Adding to her anxiety,...
