Here’s an important tip for any journalist interviewing someone with a suspicious name: Ask for ID. It’s a lesson a Baltimore Sun reporter learned, um, the hard way. Ian Duncan, who’s ironically listed as the “Military and Intelligence” reporter for the paper, had Twitter in a tizzy on Wednesday after he published an article about a Donald Trump rally in Maryland that featured a quote from a 19-year-old (that should have been his first clue) Trump supporter with an unusual name: “Jack Mehoff” (for those who are a bit slow, read out loud … it’ll sink in...

Just as quickly as Afflicted redefined the “found footage” horror subgenre, SX_Tape came along and proved there are still Plenty of opportunities for filmmakers to exploit first-person horror normalities. One day there’s a bright hope, the next there’s a disgusting reminder that for every original idea, someone else will rehash the past few years of duds for their own ill-conceived shitfest. I want to remain positive, happily accepting an advancement in “found footage” horror – but it takes a certain type of awful to make me hate a movie in which our lead, possessed character jumps up and down screaming “Let Me Suck Your Dick!” To think some inexperienced filmmaker could just waltz into stardom with such a – wait, this was directed by Bernard Rose of Candyman fame? Oh boy, where’s Tony Todd when you need him?

Having made a name for himself with the memorable horror flick Candyman back in 1992, British director Bernard Rose has since tried his hand in various other genres – with the more recent unofficial trilogy of adapted Leo Tolstoy novels, culminating in the wonderfully pensive drama Boxing Day last year, proving a distinct aptitude to excel in other areas. However he now makes a long-awaited move back to horror with his latest picture Sx_Tape – though regrettably, it’s a rather dire return.
We begin with mortified artist Jill (Caitlyn Folley) being interviewed by the police, as she is informed she is the only survivor of a dark and disturbing supernatural occurrence, following her daring break-in at a local, abandoned hospital with her boyfriend Adam (Ian Duncan). Though she seems to be somewhat oblivious to what exactly happened on this fateful day, fortunately Adam documented the entire day on his handheld camera...

The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Michael Uslan and digital media company Blip are teaming up for The Great S. Cape!; a 12 part live action series which, "follows the superhero Stephen Cape, a magician and illusionist who applies his skills -- and refusal to use a gun -- to his newfound mission as a private detective. When he stumbles across the most insidious murder plot in Hollywood, powerful forces set out to stop him at all costs." Production is due to start at the beginning of April, while South African actor Ian Duncan has been cast in the role of Stephen. Uslan, who served as executive producer on Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Trilogy, will write and executive produce. "The Great S. Cape! marks the triumphant return of the chapter-by-chapter Saturday matinee movie serial of old that was dominated by superheroes like Batman, Superman and Captain America," Uslan told the site.

John Oliver has admitted that he is keen to appear in the third season of Community. The Daily Show regular currently recurs on the NBC comedy as unhinged psychology professor Ian Duncan. "I would love to [go back]," he told TV Squad. "If they'll have me. I mean, they've been so good about working around my Daily Show schedule. I owe them big. It's really, really good fun." Oliver revealed that he will appear in "maybe another two or three" episodes of the show's second (more)...

When you have 20 minutes to talk to John Oliver, it's hard to figure out where to start. The British import has been taking maximum advantage of his opportunity here in the States, after 'The Daily Show' plucked him from the U.K. stand-up circuit five years ago to be a correspondent and writer.
Since then, he's become the Mvp of 'Tds' with his hilarious field reports, studio bits and pretty much any other way they can think of using him. He's been particularly adept at filing stories from rallies, parades and other huge gatherings, bringing back absurd quotes from everyone from Tea Party members to St. Patrick's Day revelers.
He's also made a mark in the sitcom world, playing Ian Duncan, Greendale's most apathetic professor, on 'Community.' Finally, Oliver has still been doing his current-events-charged stand-up, some of which you'll see...

There's something both innately comforting and deliciously off-kilter about this week's stupendous Christmas-themed episode of Community ("Abed's Uncontrollable Christmas"), which uses the stop-motion animation of holiday classic Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to offer an imaginative and emotionally resonant episode that explores the true meaning of Christmas (or any holiday, really). Community has thrived at both satirizing and embracing certain comedic tropes, twisting them together into a malleable and winning format in which anything and everything is indeed possible, from a zombie attack to an all-out paintball war, transforming broadcast network comedy into an infinitely elastic form. In this case, it's quite easy to accept that the Greendale gang would be portrayed as plasticine personages, as the episode unfolds from the perspective of meta-embracing Abed himself, who claims to have woken up that morning seeing everything in stop-motion animation. Rather than see this as an adorable eccentricity or some holiday-related mirth,...

Though most people judge comedies on their ability to execute and deliver jokes, it’s sometimes nice to give a series credit for at least trying new things, even when the failures come. I find myself putting Community in that second category, maybe because I just adore the series and need any excuse I can to rationalize love for episodes that others don’t enjoy, but I think more so because the series deserves it.
It’s easy to think of Community as simply throwing out pop culture references to the Pavlovian audience at home, but there’s often more going on. Usually that just involves riffing on the sitcom form, but here — and really all season, minus last week’s episode — the series has been interested in doing something more.
Thus, while “Messianic Myths and Ancient Peoples” is most definitely the least overtly funny episode of the series’ short...

Community typically strikes a nice balance between it’s riffs on the sitcom form, reference humor and heartfelt endings, usually in that order. With that in mind, this week’s episode, “The Psychology of Letting Go” surprisingly mixes that order all up to an extent where the episode works more as a fairly emotional story about loss and letting go than it does as a comedy. That’s not to say the episode isn’t funny, but it’s just so darn poignant, even more so than normal Community episodes.

After serving Jeff (played by Joel McHale) a beat down which doubled as a lesson on respect on "Community," Betty White's anthropology teacher was given administrative leave. In her place, we got a hilarious, though totally clueless substitute professor in Ian Duncan (John Oliver).
We did get a sneak peek at Professor June Bauer and it looks like she's back to where she feels comfortable - hanging with indigenous tribe members in the Congo where everything is simple. Well, not everything.

Fans of "Community" know that Betty White will be guest starring on the comedy's Thursday, Sept. 23 second season premiere. One person who doesn't know? Betty White. That's the gimmick of the first promo clip touting the recent Emmy winner's upcoming "Community" cameo. White will play a veteran anthropology professor at Greendale in the season's first half-hour, setting off an ongoing storyline that will eventually lead to more appearances by John Oliver's Professor Ian Duncan. And might White return when her schedule allows? Check out Alan Sepinwall's interview with "Community" creator Dan Harmon for the details. And...

(S01E25) Should have known Abed would never let 'Community' wrap a season without all the season finale dramatics that come with most television shows. As usual, he was ever so close to breaking the fourth wall in his declarations about the plot developments in the episode. But that self-aware nature of the show only makes those moments even more fun to watch.
I was a little surprised to see virtually everyone who's ever had any sort of significant role in the series return for this episode. The cast was filled up like this was a series finale rather than just a goodbye for the summer. It was particularly nice to see the return of Dr. Ian Duncan, played by John Oliver.
I'd forgotten how enjoyable a character he could be as the overzealous buffoon trying desperately to be liked. He's kind of like Pierce,...
