Persistent Entertainment and Pantry Films have picked up the film rights for Zenescope Entertainment’s “The Piper”
First published in 2008, “The Piper” is a four issue miniseries by Mike Kalvoda and Axel Machain that updates the Pied Piper of Hamelin legend as a horror story. The miniseries follows a bullied high school student who discovers a way to use magic to get revenge on his classmates but gradually loses control to the spirit of the original Piper. The concept was created by Kalvoda along with Ralph Tedesco & Joe Brusha.
Tedesco & Brusha are also onboard the adaptation as executive producers, along with Persistent Entertainment’s Aaron Cruze and Pantry Films’ Dan Keston. Cruze is also attached to produce the upcoming adaptation of Image Comics’ “Ring of Roses.”

The comic book Horrorscope isn't even out yet, but alas, Zenescope Entertainment is already planning the movie version. Variety reports that the company (headed by Ralph Tedesco) has snapped up the rights to develop feature films, toys and videogames based on Horrorscope , which revolves around a young psychic whose murder triggers vengeance-seeking signs of the Zodiac. The first graphic novel from Zenescope (whom also published the Grimm Fairy Tales and Final Destination comics) will street sometime in 2010. Of note though is Horrorscope creator Brian Evans. The Las Vegas lounge singer and former Full House thesp has had an interesting career. Variety reports that Philadelphia-based comic-book publisher Zenescope has picked up a property called Horrorscope from actor/singer Brian Evans (pictured). The company is planning to adapt the title to media beyond print, including feature films, video games and toys.
Horrorscope is about a psychic’s murder that inspires the signs of the Zodiac to physically manifest and seek revenge. Zenescope, whose titles include Grimm Fairy Tales, Stingers and Final Destination spinoffs, plans to publish the first issue of the miniseries in mid-to-late 2010. Evans has had quite the unusual career, from appearing on TV shows like Full House and Beverly Hills 90210 to being arrested for impersonating DJ Casey Kasem to performing as an opening-act crooner for Jay Leno and Joan Rivers!
