Late-night talk shows were like home when I was a teenager. Social anxieties could disappear, bullies were non-existent, and the humorous, non-consequential words of the hosts would calm me down after a stressful day at school. The comedians who took over TV after 11:35 Pm welcomed me into a universe I belonged to, a complete contrast from the social outcasting I felt in the classroom walls. I could live vicariously through their jokes and joyful scenarios in which the audience cheered and clapped, and nobody’s confidence was shattered by a lousy joke.
Along with Craig Ferguson, Conan O’Brien was a nightly weekday highlight. Conan’s spastic impressions and self-deprecating pokes were a warm fire in front of the TV, a silly distraction for me and so many of his viewers who loved to gather around his aura every night on NBC and then TBS at the dawn of the decade.

Three former late-night stars — or, apparently, “kings” — are sharing a stage together later this year.
Jay Leno, Craig Ferguson, and Arsenio Hall are presenting a night of standup that’s being billed as the “Kings of Late Night.” The trio will perform at the retro-themed San Diego County Fair on June 21, and again at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, CA, on September 28.
While some might hesitate to call anyone but Johnny Carson a “king” of the genre, the three comics are certainly some of the biggest names in late-night history.
Leno helmed NBC’s Tonight Show twice — from 1992-2009, and again from 2010-2014. Ferguson hosted the CBS 12:30 franchise The Late Late Show from 2005-2014, and Hall’s syndicated Arsenio Hall Show ran from 1989-1994, with a short-lived revival between 2013-2014.
While there are only two dates currently on the books, we could see more, as the three comics have hit the road together before.

It’s been nearly ten years since Craig Ferguson bid farewell as the host of CBS’ The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, but perhaps spurred on by Jon Stewart’s success back at the Daily Show, the former LateNighter is eying a return.
In an interview last week with the Spokane Spokesman-Review, the Scottish comedian spilled that he’s in talks to lead up a new late-night talk show, although like Stewart, not on a nightly basis.
“I have meetings next week in Los Angeles for a show,” Ferguson said.“I’m considering doing a show but I just don’t want to do one every day. I like doing a talk show, but not enough to do it every single day.”

There are very few Marvel franchises that are as popular and beloved as the X-Men, as every single iteration of the comics, whether movies, cartoons, TV series, or games, have all managed to become iconic in their own right. CBS kicks off a new era in late-night on Tuesday, January 16, when it launches “After Midnight” at 12:37 a.m. hosted by comic Taylor Tomlinson.
The series, which will rely on a rotating series of panelists to discuss the latest trends and memes in the digi-sphere, will follow an original hour of CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
“After Midnight,” based on the premise of “@midnight,” a program that ran on Comedy Central between 2013 and 2017,” breaks late-night tradition at CBS, which has long depended on a more typical program after 12:30 a.m. But network executives, realizing that the business of wee-hours TV is in flux, canceled “The Late Late Show” that has run for decades in that slot, hosted by people such as Tom Snyder, Craig Kilborn, Craig Ferguson and James Corden. “After Midnight” is said to cost significantly less to produce — a boon in an era when...

Taylor Tomlinson will take over James Corden’s time slot, as she will host After Midnight, officially replacing The Late Late Show, which has been on the air since 1995.
On last night’s episode of The Late Show, host Stephen Colbert acted as if they were still looking for a host to the show he leads into. It wasn’t looking great until one of the audience members chimed in: “I was just thinking…I could do it.” Met with cheers, Taylor Tomlinson was officially announced as the next host of the ~12:30 a.m. slot.
Taking the chair next to Colbert, Taylor Tomlinson expressed her excitement with, “I’ve never had a real job…I’ve been doing standup since I was 16, which is not a job!” She also let viewers in on how long the process has taken and the stress she went through. “This has been a really fun couple months.

Late-night will coming back.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Late Night with Seth Meyers will now be making plans to return to air after the WGA and the AMPTP struck a tentative agreement Sunday.
They will likely mark the first tranche of shows able to return, along with daytime talk shows.
The late-night shows have been dark since the beginning of May when the writers walked out, becoming one of the first subsects of the TV industry to close down as a result of the labor action.
Sources told Deadline that the shows will likely return a few days after the strike is officially over, once it’s been ratified, time to give the writers the chance to return and the crew to get the production process going again.

The actors’ and writers’ strikes have left countless people out of work for months as the two unions, SAG-AFTRA and the WGA, fight with the studios for better working conditions for their members. The strikes have also pushed the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (originally set for Sept. 18) to January, stalled TV and film productions, and delayed the return of late-night talk shows indefinitely. With so many in the entertainment world out of work, actors and talk show hosts have found ways to raise money through the Entertainment Community Fund, the SAG-AFTRA relief fund,...

Bill Maher has faced a lot of criticism after revealing that he was bringing Real Time back to HBO next week.
Called out by a slew of striking writers on social media, the WGA called the move “disappointing” and said that they would picket the show on its return.
But the other question that Maher’s move provoked was whether the remaining late-night hosts – The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert, The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Late Night’s Seth Meyers and Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver – would make a similar move.
As it stands, the answer seems to be a hearty ‘No’.

Strike Force Five was conceived with solidarity in mind. The podcast — co-hosted by Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver — is a continuation of weekly chats the five late night hosts have been having over Zoom since the Writers Guild of America went on strike in May. The last time the WGA went on strike, not all talk show hosts were on the same page. Kimmel and Colbert were there and remember a disconnect in the community when David Letterman and Craig Ferguson returned to work before the strike was resolved. These weekly conversations started as an attempt to make sure everyone in the talk show sector was on the same page.

“What would happen if five of America’s top 11 most-beloved talk show hosts all talked on top of each other for an hour? You’re about to find out,” said Jimmy Kimmel in the opening of Strike Force Five, a podcast from the major late-night hosts.

It was an hour of random stories and jokes about the strike including how Stephen Colbert’s mother dated a Nicaraguan dictator, lawsuits involving their shows (hello Viacom and Google), how many of the hosts wanted to join the clergy and how Colbert and Kimmel were both in the running to be the announcer for Magic Johnson’s 1998 talkshow The Magic Hour.
“Would it be fair to say that in 2008 the hosts didn’t get along quite as well as we do?...

Craig Ferguson knows a thing or two about strikes. The comedian hosted CBS’ The Late Late Show during the 2007/2008 writers strike.
As a member of the WGA, SAG-AFTRA and the DGA, the Scot has urged the studios to “make a f*cking deal”.
“I support the strike wholeheartedly,” he told Deadline. “You have one job as a producer and that’s to make a f*cking deal. That’s really the whole ethos of being a producer and they’re not making a deal, and I can’t understand that. Any good producer finds a way to make a deal that everyone walks away feeling kind of good about so I can’t imagine why an association of producers can’t get together with a bunch of people who want to work and say, ‘All right, we have to find a deal’.”

Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers are stepping in to pay the salaries of their crews for at least one week now that the Writers Guild of America strike has brought late-night TV (and a whole lot of other productions in Hollywood) to a halt.
A source close to The Tonight Show tells Rolling Stone that NBC will pay The Tonight Show’s non-striking staff for two weeks, after which Fallon will cover salaries for a third week. Healthcare coverage for staffers will be available through the end of September, as well.

When the 2007 WGA strike lasted 100 days, many Hollywood staffers — not just the writers — went without. An exception was the staffs of broadcast television’s late-night talk shows, thanks to their generous hosts. Those hosts — Jay Leno, David Letterman, Conan O’Brien, and Jimmy Kimmel — returned to TV eight weeks into the strike; only Letterman, through his own unique deal with the Writers Guild of America, had writers.
Letterman, his longtime rival Leno, O’Brien, and Kimmel each promised to continue paying staffers while their shows were off the air. For the 2023 strike, Kimmel and relative newcomers Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Fallon, and Seth Meyers have made the same vow — just a few years after they each picked up the tab for staff members during the earliest part of the Covid pandemic.

Trevor Noah is moving from being in front of the camera at “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central to a weekly comedy program on Amazon Freevee that has him working behind the scenes.
The ad-supported streaming service will offer a U.S. version of the long-running British series “Mock The Week,” a half-hour program that combines elements from talk shows. stand-up comedy sessions and improv games and sets two teams of comics against each other in a bid to satirize current news events and popular culture. Noah, who left “The Daily Show” late last year, will executive produce the series, along with Dan Patterson, who helped create “Mock The Week,” which has run in the United Kingdom for more than 15 years.
Production on the series will begin in 2024. The host will be announced at a later date.

James Corden was joined by 1.43M people for the farewell to CBS’ The Late Late Show on Thursday night.
The audience for the final episode of The Late Late Show was up 77% over the show’s season-to-date average live+same-day viewership. It was also the show’s largest audience on any day of the week since January 2021 following the AFC Championship Game.
Corden took over for Craig Ferguson in 2015 and ended his eight-year run as host on Thursday with his final guests Will Ferrell and Harry Styles, as well as one last edition of Carpool Karaoke with his old pal Adele. But first, to help say goodbye to its late-night star, CBS set aside an hour in primetime for a pre-taped special that included video montages and candy-coated skits so Corden could show off his singing chops.

James Corden announced he'd be leaving "The Late Late Show" back in April 2022, telling Deadline at the time that he was "so immensely proud of the show," before revealing he'd been "really been thinking about it for a long time, thinking whether there might be one more adventure."
Alas, the adventure has mercifully come to a close after eight years of Corden gracing our screens. The "Cats" star took over from previous "Late Late Show" host Craig Ferguson in March 2015, and has been providing us with his unctuous brand of late night shenanigans ever since — penetrating the culture with memorable segments such as Carpool Karaoke and ... y'know, probably some others.
For his send-off, Corden managed to bring together all the late night talk show hosts for a sketch in which they, too, struggle to recall any "Late Late Show" bits that aren't Carpool Karaoke. Of course, they do a lot more than that.

James Corden's tenure as "The Late Late Show" host has come to an end. On April 27, CBS sent him off with a prime-time special honoring some of his best moments (and debuting two final bits with Adele and Tom Cruise) before the actual final episode aired, with guests Harry Styles and Will Ferrell. For Cruise's segment, Corden got the "Top Gun" actor to join him in the Los Angeles stage production of "The Lion King," and the duo learned puppetry and songs before eventually donning the two-person elephant costume in the show's opening number, "The Circle of Life."
Later in the show, they appeared as Timon and Pumba and performed "Hakuna Matata." Watch their journey to stage glory above. The prime-time special also featured Adele's final Carpool Karaoke with Corden. Adele filmed her original car singalong video with Corden in 2016, and it's since racked up 261 million views on YouTube.

Spoiler Alert! This story contains details from James Corden’s primetime special and final installment of The Late Late Show on CBS.
So long, James Corden. The affable Brit who took over for Craig Ferguson in 2015 ended his eight-year run as host of CBS’ The Late Late Show on Thursday.
To help say goodbye to its late-night star, CBS set aside an hour in primetime for a pre-taped special that included video montages and candy-coated skits so Corden could show off his singing chops. First up: a musical number with Corden, who stood on top of the old Television City building to sing a rendition of Donna Summer’s “Last Dance” — but in this case, it was changed to “Last Show.”
That was followed by a playful bit with Tom Cruise, who agreed to perform with Corden in a Hollywood staging of The Lion King. With Cruise as the warthog and Corden as the meerkat,...

“What will I miss? I’ll miss all of it,” sighed James Corden, the host of CBS’ The Late Late Show with James Corden — which will air its final episode on Thursday night — while he gave The Hollywood Reporter a tour of his show’s premises last week. “I sort of can’t quite take in the idea that next week none of this will be here. They’re just gonna sort of take it apart, this thing that we built. You’ve certainly come at an emotional time.”

The late-night television sector will be the first to get hit if there’s a writers strike, and its stars are bracing themselves for impact.
The nightly talk shows – The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyers and The Daily Show as well as Saturday Night Live – will be among the first high-profile shows dealing with the fallout of a strike if the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers can’t reach an agreement by May 1.
Kimmel and Colbert, the latter of which previously hosted Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, will remember first-hand what happened last time there was a writers strike in 2007-08. Meyers was on Saturday Night Live during that period.

With “The Late Late Show With James Corden” coming to an end, crew members took advantage of Corden’s interview with “Late Night” host Seth Meyers to ask for a job.
On Monday night, the routine interview between these two late night colleagues was interrupted by several members of Corden’s team asking if there’s room for them at “Late Night With Seth Meyers.” Even bandleader and comedian Reggie Watts got in on the joke.
The segment started off as usual before one of Corden’s cameramen — identified only as Will — interrupted the pair. “Just wanted you to know, man, this shot looks great. Got just the right amount of headroom, perfectly centered. Really captures your essence,” the cameraman told Meyers.

On Monday, the late night talk show revealed the final guests set for the show are Harry Styles and the Elf star.
The Grammy-winning singer has had numerous appearances on the show for years, including “Carpool Karaoke” segments and his own Crosswalk Concert, as well as filling in for Corden as guest host multiple times. One of his earliest appearances dates back to 2015, when he was still with One Direction.

While James Corden’s next direction is back to England, and perhaps to the stage, he and the producers of “The Late Late Show” want to make it abundantly clear what not to expect on the final episode: One Direction.
Following a weird bit of online chatter about the British boy band reuniting to send Corden off, the show took to its social media channels to nip the rumor in the bud.

James Corden, host of “The Late Late Show” since 2015, spoke candidly from the stage of The Paley Center in Los Angeles on Sunday. The London-born 44-year-old comic and two producers on his CBS late-night show, Ben Winston and Rob Crabbe, took something of a victory lap as they wind down their tenure in the 12:30 time slot. They have 12 more episodes to shoot, and are planning some big names (and more carpool karaoke segments) for the grand finale.
Bryan Cranston (a good get!) hosted the panel, during which time Corden spoke about the uncertainty he feels about his future employment. “I haven’t felt this scared since I decided to take the show, to move here,” he said. “I haven’t felt on such unstable ground,” but added, “I have to embrace that fear.”
He intends to bring his family back to England and hopes to get back to live theater.

An emotional and reflective James Corden bid his fans and television farewell – at least for now – during a PaleyFest LA event Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood a few weeks before his CBS “The Late Late Show with James Corden” heads off into the sunset for good on April 27. It was announced that the show in its final days will release three new “Carpool Karaoke” segments featuring major stars. Corden will also participate in a “Take a Break” segment featuring the Kardashian family, and will debut one last, epic “Crosswalk the Musical” performance. Additionally, the popular “Late Late Show” guest Tom Cruise will join Corden for a final musical “Lion King” sketch from the Pantages Theater in Hollywood.

Bad Bunny appeared on a segment of “Carpool Karaoke” on The Late Late Show with host James Corden on Tuesday. It was the first time the artist performed with Corden, who has carpooled with Adele, One Direction, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Britney Spears, Selena Gomez, and more in the past.
During the ride through Los Angeles traffic, Bad Bunny and Corden jammed to “Dakiti,” “I Like It” (2018’s reigning song of the summer), and dembow-trap hybrid “Tití Me Preguntó.” The pair also attempted to belt out Ariana Grande’s “Break Free,...

Exclusive: After launching the first original court show on streaming with Judy Justice on Amazon Freevee, Judy Sheindlin could make history again with the first streaming show to sell in broadcast syndication. Former CBS executive Scott Koondel’s Sox Entertainment, which distributes Judy Justice, is actively exploring selling the show’s library — about 260 episodes — to TV stations for fall 2023 or fall 2024, sources tell Deadline. Cable syndication also is a possibility, I hear.

James Corden aims to leave the late-night stage in a big way.
CBS plans to broadcast the last hour of its “The Late Late Show,” which Corden has hosted since March of 2015, on Thursday, April 27, and will add a primetime special that night to help mark the occasion.
Tom Cruise will reunite with Corden for one big sketch to air during the primetime special. Cruise has previously joined Corden on “The Late Late Show” for segments include daredevil stunts such as piloting fighter jets and skydiving. In this new meeting, Corden will have Cruise take part in an epic musical performance during “The Lion King” at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood.
CBS said additional details for the special will be announced in coming weeks along with guest stars who will join Corden during his last two months on the program. Corden is the fourth — and last — person to lead “The Late Late Show,...

Exclusive: Former Late Late Show host Craig Ferguson is entering the podcast space, signing a deal with iHeartMedia for Joy.
“Joy is an essential human coping mechanism and I’m interested in how different individuals manifest it, particularly when circumstances make it difficult whether it be a demanding or harrowing job, a challenging existential problem or just watching the news,” said Ferguson.
The pact for Joy, which will be distributed by iHeartPodcasts and available everywhere podcasts are heard later this year, comes on the heels of Ferguson teaming with Sony Pictures Television on a syndicated late-night series, Channel Surf with Craig Ferguson, which is currently being shopped. It will feature the comedian and his friends as they “review the shocking, surprising and hilarious moments of the week’s shows.”

The Late Late Show with James Corden is coming to an end this year – and its replacement has reportedly been decided.
In April 2022, the British comic actor announced that he would be stepping down from hosting the US late night show in 2023 after eight years.
Rather than replacing Corden with a new presenter (the previous host was Craig Ferguson), it has now been reported that a different show will take the time slot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Late Late Show will be replaced with a reboot of panel show @midnight. The Emmy-winning comedy game show originally aired on Comedy Central from 2013 from 2017 and saw comedians being asked questions about the internet.
Stephen Colbert is reportedly on board as an executive producer of the revival, although original host Chris Hardwick is said to not be returning.
The Independent has contacted CBS for comment.

In April 2022, James Corden announced that he would be stepping down from his duties at "The Late Late Show" after hosting the late-night staple since 2015. Many speculated about who would take his spot as the successor to Tom Snyder, Craig Kilborn, and Craig Ferguson in the 12:35 a.m. time slot on CBS' schedule. But as we move closer to Corden's final days on the show, which are scheduled to air in spring 2023, no one has officially emerged as the next host. And it appears that the reason for this is that the network is doing away with the series entirely in favor of a fan-favorite format that debuted a decade ago that was canceled after 600 episodes.
