The Duchess, the comedy from British-based comedian Katherine Ryan, has been cancelled by Netflix after one season.
The six-part series launched in September 2020 but will not return. It is centered around the powerful and problematic choices of a fashionably disruptive single mom living in London. Her daughter, Olive, is her greatest love so she debates a second child with her greatest enemy — Olive’s dad.
Ryan revealed the news on Vicky Pattison’s The Secret To… podcast. “[Netflix] didn’t want to make any more, not enough people watched it. I think something like 10 million people watched it in 28 days and that wasn’t enough,” she said. “But also, I’m not terribly sad about it. I feel like it’s a whole lot of work, a whole lot of time to make a sitcom. I was so grateful to able to make it, but I think it speaks for itself.

A sweeping score inspired by Britain’s pre-wwii landscape has signalled Stefan Gregory’s entry into feature films, with the composer making his debut as part of Simon Stone’s The Dig.
The Netflix drama about the 1939 Sutton Hoo treasure discovery stars Ralph Fiennes as real-life architect Basil Brown and Carey Mulligan as Edith Pretty, the landowner from whose estate the Anglo Saxon artefacts were uncovered.
The screenplay was written by Moira Buffini as an adaption of John Preston’s novel of the same name.
Carolyn Marks Blackwood, Murray Ferguson, Gabrielle Tana, and Ellie Wood produced the film.
The accompanying music includes intimate piano and chamber pieces, as well as grandiose strings to enhance the discoveries within the story.
Gregory said trial and error was used to compose music that reflected the tone of the film.
“So much of it was inspired by the landscape and the beautiful shots of the film,...

It’s the end of an era at The End Of The F***ing World and Misfits producer Clerkenwell Films, where founder and CEO Murray Ferguson is leaving after 23 years and BBC Studios is taking full control of the business.
Ferguson founded the UK production outfit in 1998, but will step away in the fall to try his hand at “new things.” As part of his departure, BBC Studios will increase its investment in Clerkenwell to 100%, having previously owned 48% of the company. BBC Studios first invested in Clerkenwell in 2008.
Channel 4/Netflix’s BAFTA-winning hit The End Of The F***ing World has become Clerkenwell’s calling card in recent years, but it boasts other successful youth-skewing titles including Misfits and Lovesick. More traditional drama credits extend to Afterlife and Rebus.

Channel 4 has commissioned its latest series from Clerkenwell Films, the producer behind its BAFTA-winning Netflix co-production The End Of The F***ing World.
Like Clerkenwell did with End Of The F***ing World’s Charlie Covell, the company is teaming with a relatively new writer, Pete Jackson (One Normal Night), to create gripping eight-part drama The Birth Of Daniel F Harris.
Here’s the premise: Danny was a baby when his mother was killed in a car crash. Overcome with grief, his father locked him away in a house, telling him the outside world is full of monsters that will spirit him away like his mother.
But when Danny turns 18 his whole world explodes in an instant and he has to come to terms with a new world he never knew existed. He also finds the real monster — the one that killed his mom.

Exclusive: If Charlie Covell decides to return to her cult drama The End Of The F***ing World, she will be pushing on an open door at Channel 4, which originally commissioned the show and co-produced it with Netflix.
That’s according to Channel 4 director of programs Ian Katz, who told Deadline that Covell “can keep doing that one as long as she likes” when asked if he can coax the writer into penning a third season of the show, which stars Jessica Barden and Alex Lawther.
“I think she might take a breather doing something else for a while, but she’s a classic writer,” Katz said, adding that it is Channel 4’s most-binged show ever. He said The End Of The F***ing World was an example of a co-production that has worked for Channel 4 because it is “deeply relatable and relevant to a British audience.”

Netflix dropped the trailer for Season 2 of “The End of the F***ing World” Wednesday, which featured Graham Coxon’s cover of Billy Idol’s “White Wedding.” And yes, the show used the song in pretty much the most depressing way you could possibly imagine.
In the 1-minute, 31-second video above, you’ll see an even-more-depressed-than-usual Alyssa (Jessica Barden) is getting married, though we don’t get to see to who. And she’s obviously still grieving the apparent death of her boyfriend James (Alex Lawther) at the end of Season 2. For those of you who were hoping that cliffhanger meant he could still be alive, looks like that’s not the case. And based on a telling image in the trailer of Alyssa looking at a bullet with “James” engraved on it, we’re concerned she’s now considering taking her own life.

BBC Studios and Anton have commissioned short-form series “Cheaters” from “The End of the F***ing World” producer Clerkenwell Films. The premium short-film scripted series is the first commission under a development pact between the three companies, first announced in September 2018.
“Cheaters,” an 18-part comedy-drama told in 10-minute chapters, will be produced by Clerkenwell and co-financed by BBC Studios and Anton as part of a deal to develop and fund a slate of high-end, short-form drama and comedy projects. The long-term development deal is focused on creating premium, high volume, short-form content for digital and linear platforms. The “Cheaters” commission marks the first time BBC Studios has fully commissioned a drama without a broadcaster already attached.
Described as a “sexy, messy, comedy drama about morality and monogamy, and everything in between,” “Cheaters” was written and created by Oliver Lyttelton. Clerkenwell’s chief executive Murray Ferguson will serve as an executive producer,...

British-based comedian Katherine Ryan is serving up the funny with not one, but two projects on Netflix. She is set to write, executive produce, and star in her debut scripted series The Duchess and will return to the streaming giant with her second stand-up special Glitter Room.
The Duchess follows the powerful and problematic choices of a fashionably disruptive single mom living in London. Her daughter, Olive, is her greatest love so she debates a second child with her greatest enemy — Olive’s dad. Can two wrongs make another right? Netflix will stream six 30-minute episodes.
Executive producers are Dave Becky & Josh Lieberman for 3Arts; and Murray Ferguson, Petra Fried, and Ed Macdonald for Clerkenwell Films (The End of the F***ing World)
Ryan will bring her 2018 UK tour show Glitter Room to Netflix for an hour-long stand-up comedy special after an unprecedented four week run at London’s Garrick Theatre in the West End.

Channel 4 and Netflix have teamed up to commission a second series of the Rts Award-winning and BAFTA-nominated series The End of the F***ing World.
The first season was All 4’s best performing exclusive single series and become its most-binged show of any exclusive single series. So, really it was only a matter of time before this news broke.
The first series saw teen outsiders James and Alyssa embark on a road trip which descended into darkly comic chaos. After finding themselves embroiled in a series of violent events they are soon trailed by two uniquely mismatched police detectives, played by BAFTA-winning Wunmi Mosaku and Gemma Whelan. After a shocking series finale, only one thing is certain…expect the unexpected.

E4 has confirmed that Misfits will end after the soon-to-be-filmed series five, which is due on air in autumn 2013...
After five series, the launch of numerous careers in front of and behind the camera, and an identity so strong we'll still be talking about it long after DVD box-sets have been replaced by cerebro-retinal implants, E4's Misfits deserves a Viking funeral more than it does talk of having been "axed". Misfits' executive producer Murray Ferguson has confirmed that there are talks about remaking the show in the Us. Howard Overman, who created the hit superhero drama, has previously admitted that he was unsure about making an American adaptation.
