The Vampire Diaries’ upcoming 100th episode centers on our favorite evil vixen in what could be her final moments. After Katherine Pierce had a heart attack and fell down the Salvatores’ stairs in the mid-season finale, we’re scared that it might finally be time to say goodbye to the woman who once loved both Salvatore brothers but never loved anyone more than herself. So to honor what could potentially be the most memorable death (or near-death) scene in season 5, we’re reliving similar moments from the past four seasons.

The Vampire Diaries, Season 4, Episode 22: “The Walking Dead”
Written by Brian Young and Caroline Dries
Directed by Rob Hardy
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on The Vampire Diaries: Each of our leads gets a blast from the past and Bonnie still hasn’t learned to listen to her Grams
A note to all TV writers- giving an episode the same title as a different and hugely popular series isn’t clever. It’s just confusing. With that out of the way, last week’s episode was emotional and satisfying, but raised concerns about where the final two episodes of this season were headed. This week, those concerns prove well founded. Despite several much-anticipated character returns, this episode is, on the whole, forgettable and the most memorable elements only serve to highlight the season’s flaws.

Since it first debuted 4 years ago, The Vampire Diaries has never been shy about killing off characters. In fact, they have taken such a no-holds-barred approach to it that major character deaths are now expected. Most recently, the loss of Jeremy Gilbert (Steven R. McQueen) added to the long list of deaths of characters fans were attached to; before that, there had been the death’s Alaric (Matt Davis), Jenna (Sara Canning), John (David Anders), Isobel (Mia Kirshner), Anna (Malese Jow), Lexi (Arielle Kebbel)– and to a lesser degree Grams, Vicki (Kayla Ewell), Mason (Taylor Kinney), Rose (Lauren Cohan), Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic), Finn (Casper Zafer), Esther (Alice Evans), Carol Lockwood (Susan Walters), and Bill Forbes (Jack Coleman).
What I propose here is that The Vampire Diaries that has never been hesitant to kill before should take the ultimate risk and kill off its lead, Elena Gilbert. Now let’s be clear,...

The Vampire Diaries, Season 4, Episode 10: “After School Special”
Written by Brett Matthews
Directed by David Von Ancken
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on The Vampire Diaries: Rebekah puts Elena and Stefan in time out, Tyler has Mommy issues, and Klaus takes Jeremy’s training in a new direction
The majority of this week’s Vampire Diaries falls into a fairly common genre-show category- the truth serum episode. For whatever reason, be it chemical, magical, or other, characters with built-up secrets are forced together in a situation where they cannot lie. This is often used for comic effect, but almost always ends with a dramatic revelation or two. Here, Elena and Stefan can’t lie, thanks to Rebekah Compelling them, and it’s revealed that Elena’s in love with Damon, not Stefan, and that Stefan would forget their entire time together if given the choice.

Vdvo: Mystic Falls means mystic creatures (it's like they knew), Elena bound, redshirts unbound, race for the cure, viva el Redshirt Revolution!
Damon and Elena awaken on Damon's bed, fully dressed at his insistence. He wasn't able to make himself release her or order her to make him happy by leaving or whatever messed-up gender subjugation crap she's caught up in. This whole sire-bond thing could not bore me more so I'm focusing on how Damon changes out of a short-sleeved T into a long-sleeved Hensley, baring his torso in the process.
"At least my nipples aren't conflicted."
They're about to spend the day in bed together when Elena's phone goes off. “Saved by the cell phone,” says Damon, who if he weren't so besotted would have gone for the far superior “saved by the cell”. It's Bonnie, who's having Elena meet her to help...

New episodes of "The Vampire Diaries" won't be returning to The CW until October, but while we soothe our withdrawal symptoms with reruns, we've been doing a lot of thinking about what we hope for in Season 4. The finale opened up a whole lot of doors, and we're looking forward to the writers taking advantage of every opportunity -- and creating some new ones. Here are ten (okay, eleven) things we want to see next fall when Elena faces a whole new challenge.
1. Elena's dark side. When a person turns into a vampire, their strongest personality traits are heightened. Elena's strongest personality traits are compassion and selflessness -- but seeing vampire Elena wander around Mystic Falls helping old ladies with their groceries and nursing injured animals back to health would get old really quickly. We've seen a few flashes of just how tough and fierce Elena can be when someone...

We open this, the third season finale, with Elena's alarm clock sounding at the ungodly hour of 6:45. I try to acknowledge only one 6:45 a day and Am ain't it. Seeing as how when we left Elena she was unconscious and bleeding, this is obviously yet another coma/dream sequence. She does look super cute in her Cheerio uniform, though.
She bops downstairs to breakfast and runs into Jenna in the kitchen. Hey Jenna! Girl, we've missed you. Elena reports that Jeremy has locked himself in the bathroom again. “Does he think we don't know what he's doing in there?” And before the mind can dwell too long on the idea of Steven R. McQueen doing things in a locked bathroom Jenna reminds us that in the coma dream Jeremy's only 14 so all those thoughts are highly inappropriate.
Elena sneaks a sip of coffee just as her mother walks...

The Vampire Diaries Review, Season 3, Episode 20: “Do Not Go Gentle”
Written by Michael Narducci
Directed by Joshua Butler
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on The Vampire Diaries: Mystic Falls High continues its tradition of terrible Decade Dances, Ric pulls a Bill Forbes, and Bonnie can not catch a break
It’s that time of year again- time for the teens of Mystic Falls to dust off the frankly ridiculous stash of gorgeous vintage clothes they have lying around, put on their dancing shoes, and head over to the school gym for the Decade Dance. It must’ve been a fun episode for Jennifer Bryan, the costume designer for the series, as well as the hair and makeup departments, who dress the cast to the nines. It’s notable that they don’t neglect the men- Tyler in particular gets into it and rocks his fabulous ensemble.

At the end of last week's game-changing episode of "The Vampire Diaries," we learned that Alaric (Matt Davis), possessed by the Gilbert ring, was actually the one murdering the Founders in Mystic Falls. One of Alaric's victims happened to be Bill Forbes, Caroline's (Candice Accola) father.
In this week's all-new episode, entitled "Break On Through," Caroline will find out about Alaric's deeds, and actress Candice Accola told HuffPost TV that she definitely has a strong reaction to the shocking news.
"Caroline and Alaric really haven't had that many scenes together, and the scenes that they do have together have always been within a plan, as they both help out in the bigger scheme of things," Accola told HuffPost TV. "We'll finally see them talk one-on-one at this point, and we'll see if that goes well or if it doesn't."

One tear-inducing death. One all-male dinner date. One shocking return.
The Vampire Diaries featured one Omg moment after another on "Bringing Out the Dead" and now, as usual, our Round Table panel of Matt Richenthal, Dan Forcella and Steve Marsi have gathered around to break down the latest happenings in Mystic Falls. Won't you join them?
-------------------------------------------
What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: Elena and Caroline's sit-down and emotional chat about fathers about halfway through the episode. It's what makes The Vampire Diaries unlike any other show on TV, really, this ability to throw 16 twists and 27 turns around truly heartbreaking, sentimental moments that ground those twists and turns in characters we care about.
Dan: As great as it was meeting the other originals, my favorite scene had to be when Klaus first welcomed the Salvatores to his dinner party. He was slyly making a mockery of their little get together,...

Life in Mystic Falls took an unexpected turn in “Bringing Out the Dead.” And, right now it’s difficult to say whether that turn will have positive or negative results for Damon, Stefan or Elena. Okay, let’s face it. Nothing good happens to these three. So, the seemingly lovely reunion of the Original family can only spell chaos. It was a slow-paced episode, which gave fans a chance to breath and simply enjoy good character dynamics. However, Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson weren’t afraid to sneak a few shockers in there to get our hearts pumping.
First off, I’d like to take a moment to say goodbye to a newly introduced character who was killed off way too soon. Mystic Falls waved goodbye to Caroline’s dad Bill Forbes played expertly by Jack Coleman. We finally had a great human character to follow, one who had learned...

You guys, I usually try to make these recaps light and snarky, but I'm not in a light and snarky mood. Caroline's dad dies in this episode, and it happens that I watched it on the anniversary of my father's death and it's rough.
We pick up just where we left off last time, with a stunned Klaus facing a revived Elijah. Elijah starts putting a beatdown on Klaus, who's more concerned about wrecking his newly-renovated house. He notes that he kept his promise to reunite Elijah with the family, although the “with a magic dagger through your heart” part of the promise was unspoken. Klaus pulls a dagger out of another immobilized relative and makes to impale Elijah with it until Elijah notes that the relative, Cole, will be a lot more pissed off.
Klaus informs Elijah of Mikael's death and Elijah demands to know why the family remains daggered.

The Vampire Diaries 3.13 "Bringing Out The Dead" Review
The title of this episode of The Vampire Diaries is not a spoiler as such, but it does give a clue as to what occurred in this excellent outing. There are different types of dead on this show so it is easy for this title to be a misdirect, and the entire episode felt a bit like a chess game between the Salvatore's and Klaus (Joseph Morgan), with Elijah (Daniel Gillies) feeling like an unknown entity in the game. It was another week where family played a very significant role in all of the plot threads and as I have said before (and will no doubt say again) the real heart of the show is not the love triangle, but it is about family ties and the unbreakable bond that this brings.

After this week's episode of "The Vampire Diaries," I'm clamoring for an Originals-only spin-off. The family dynamic between Klaus and his siblings is so wonderful, I'd happily watch an hour-long family dinner every week. The CW won't be keeping "Remodeled" around for long anyway, right? Open real estate!
In all seriousness, "Bringing Out the Dead" was one of the series' most poignant and exciting episodes, striking that elusive balance between supernatural action and emotional character development. It introduced two new Original characters and provided a surprisingly touching swan song for a character we weren't entirely crazy about.
Most significantly, though, it marked a turning point for the core love triangle of the show, thanks to an unlikely voice of reason: Klaus. Cue up your DVRs, kids. Let's get into it.

I'm sorry. I'm still gonna need a minute...
I thought I'd be ready to write my review of "Bringing Out the Dead" by now. I thought my eyes had dried enough from the tears they shed over seeing Caroline Forbes lose her father - and that my heart had stopped racing from the shot of all Original family members standing side by side - but I was wrong. Talk amongst yourself for a few more moments please...
Okay. I think I can do it. But my goodness. The Vampire Diaries threw every conceivable emotion at us this week, didn't it?
Let's start with the raw pain of Caroline, who spent more time crying here than she did talking, proving once again that Candice Accola simply rocks and that even the strong veneer this character has built up since becoming a blood sucker is no match for the death of a parent.

The Vampire Diaries Review, Season 3, Episode 13: “Bringing Out the Dead”
Written by Turi Meyer and Al Septien
Directed by Jeffrey Hunt
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on the CW
This week, on The Vampire Diaries: The Salvatores scheme, the Forbes grieve, and Klaus has a family reunion. Plus, there’s a serial killer in town.
It’s a transitional week in Mystic Falls as one mystery is solved in time for another to ramp up. After weeks of speculation, we find out Mommie Dearest is in the coffin but, luckily for Klaus, she’s in a forgiving mood. It’s past time for this reveal, which has felt fairly obvious for a while, and though parts of the episode feel a bit padded, this element is handled well. Esther’s appearance may not be earth-shattering, but Klaus’ reaction more than makes up for it. Joseph Morgan is great in this scene,...

Are you still breathing? Because I'm not so sure that I've regained full use of my lungs yet. Bravo, Joseph Morgan. That was one of the most compelling performances in the history of The Vampire Diaries and one of my favorite episodes ever.
It was like a scene out of Julius Caesar, watching Klaus fall at the hands of those he thought he could trust most: his family. It was an incredible scene, watching each Original inflict their own sense of revenge on their hybrid brother. And yet even though they were justified in their anger, I couldn't quite bear the thought of knowing how much pain Klaus was really in.

Vampire Diaries – Bringing Out the Dead with Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev
Some serious drama is set to go down in the February 2nd episode of The Vampire Diaries, putting series stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder in what can only be described as one hell of a pickle (at least in the case of Somerhalder’s character; Dobrev’s Nina made get off easy, but we’ll see). There’s a familiar face returning to the series adding a little extra sizzle to the proceedings. If you’ve been following along you should have a pretty good idea who’s coming back to cause a little mayhem.
In the last episode, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) realized Damon (Somerhalder) had resurrected his older brother Elijah (Daniel Gillies). If you take a look at the promo images from The CW, available below, you can sort of piece together that even though Damon brought him back,...

This week's episode of "The Vampire Diaries" showcased some characters that have been backburnered lately -- specifically, Bonnie and Tyler. It's no secret that I don't love the way Bonnie is written on this show. Kat Graham is fantastic, but the writing for Bonnie is uneven and the emotional consequences of her stories tend to be swept aside in favor of using her as a plot device.
This episode went a long way toward giving her some history and some depth, though, which was a relief. It was also nice to see her and Elena spend some time focusing on human emotion and what those emotions mean outside the realm of their supernatural civil war.
We also saw some definite movement when it comes to the central love triangle of the show. Most importantly, there was finally some clear acknowledgement that it is a triangle, in a powerful and heartbreaking scene between Stefan and Elena.

A pair of family reunions dominated the latest episode of The Vampire Diaries, while Stefan showed some heart and Alaric displayed some stupidity.
Which scene stood out the most? How excited are we to welcome back Elijah? Join Round Table panelists Matt Richenthal, Steve Marsi, Dan Forcella and Eric Hochberger now as they break down "The Ties That Bind..."
-------------------------------------------
What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: Abby texting to Bonnie while the random hybrid dude stood nearby. She made Leonardo DiCaprio in The Descendants look like a text messaging amateur!
Steve: As Matt sums up very well in his review, there's almost too much going on from which to choose, or know what to invest ourselves in at this point. I was probably most interested in Tyler's storyline, though. Can Caroline's dad really fix him, and will he be the key to bringing down Klaus if so?...

Another episode, another dream sequence for Bonnie. The dead witches are again sending her clues about the sealed coffin, which she shares with Elena at the Bowh ("Burned Out Witch House") despite Stefan's desire to keep Elena out of the coffin game. Stefan arrives, none too pleased at Elena's presence, but Bonnie explains that she'll need Elena's help to find the person her dreams are pointing her to: Bonnie's mother Abby. With an assist from Damon, they locate where she's been living in North Carolina. The two head out on a road trip, but not before Damon spills about his and Elena's kiss.
Caroline arrives home from somewhere to find Tyler in her living room. He's there to apologize but she's not having it. Tyler persists, telling her he wants to be able to control himself, which is why he called on the first of tonight's returning absentee parents, Caroline's gay dad Bill.

The Vampire Diaries does many things very well: snark, romance, violence, twists, turns, bubble baths.
But what the show has truly succeeded at over two-plus seasons has been a constant, fascinating through-line; a theme for each set of episodes that anchors the action and gives fans something to anticipate; a destination, if you will, a payoff to the incredible build-up.
Almost all of season one could be defined by the tomb and Damon's yearning to awaken Katherine; season two introduced us to werewolves and then concluded with many weeks of wondering how everyone would protect Elena from Klaus' sacrifice.
Season three, however, has been a bit more scattered - and never was that more evident than on "The Ties That Bind."
I wanna say the mystery of the locked coffin is now the driving force and it probably is. I can't even begin to guess what's in there, nor do I even want to.

So much for that happy state of being a hybrid, huh?
Tyler Lockwood learned last week on The Vampire Diaries that there are a handful of negatives to his new status, namely his lack of free will and the resulting teeth marks it left on poor Caroline. So what will he do about it on tonight's "The Ties That Bind?"
Look for Jack Coleman to return as Bill Forbes, and for Tyler to actually embrace the sort of torture this character brought down on his daughter when as last saw him on "Disturbing Behavior," as teased in this trailer:
The Vampire Diaries Promo: "The Ties That Bind"
"[Bill] was able to resist compulsion so [Tyler] figures not only is he the [father of the] girl he wants to be with, but maybe he can teach me some way to resist the sire bond to Klaus," Michael Trevino tells TV Guide of what brings these two together.

You know The Vampire Diaries' Tyler is at his wit's end when he goes to Bill Forbes for help.
Last we saw the hybrid, he had skedaddled after unwillingly biting his love Caroline due to his sire bond with Klaus. Now that Tyler realizes he has no free will, he'll track down Caroline's father as a last resort.

Although they’ve spent their formative years dealing with death, destruction, and an annoying little critter by the name of Jeremy Gilbert, the Mystic Falls gang has always remained a close-knit bunch. That is, until Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) gave fan-favorite Caroline Forbes a little love-bite that may or may not isolate the hybrid hunk from his friends for good.
“He’s got to make it right,” Trevino told EW at a special Q&A Wednesday morning. “I think he’s going to do anything and everything to make it better. Everything is for Caroline right now. He told her he loved her,...

On last week's episode of "The Vampire Diaries," Tyler (Michael Trevino) finally dropped the L-bomb with Caroline (Candice Accola)... and then delivered a fatal bite to her neck because a psychotic serial murderer told him to do it.
Teenage girls of America: That is so not love. Make a note.
Luckily, we sat down with our favorite werewolf-turned-werevamp for a mini-press conference at The CW's headquarters this morning, and it sounds like Tyler will be doing everything possible to make amends.
The theme of overcoming mind-control has come up throughout the season, and Tyler will go to extremes to break his bond to Klaus. His first stop? He's going to call up Bill Forbes (Jack Coleman), Caroline's dad.
Bill put Caroline through hell early in the season when he tried to cure her of her bloodlust via torture, and he's going to use similar methods with Tyler in Thursday night's harrowing episode.

The Vampire Diaries Executive Producer Julie Plec (left) with stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev
While it seems like the third season of CW’s addictive The Vampire Diaries just kicked off, it’s already time for the show to take a break after tonight’s episode, entitled “Homecoming.” The series will return in January, of course, but until then it may be hard for Tvd addicts to survive without their weekly dose of throat ripping, complicated love triangles, magic spells and, of course, shirtless vampires and werewolves.
AfterElton recently grabbed a few minutes with The Vampire Diaries Executive Producer Julie Plec to get a few teases on what we’ll see tonight, if we’re ever going to see some gays in Mystic Falls and just when we can expect to see some more skin on the show.
Can the Brothers Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley) get back to a good place?...

Considering last week's pitch-perfect flashback episode, Thursday's "Vampire Diaries" had a tough act to follow. I was actually quite impressed, though. After a mythology-heavy episode, it was nice to revisit some of the more peripheral characters... and to finally, finally see Elena acknowledge her attraction to Damon.
But I'm getting ahead of myself! Cue up your DVRs, prepare to feel uncomfortably attracted to a fictional 16-year-old, and... go!
Previously on "The Vampire Diaries": Everybody on the whole planet was totally in love with Elena. Stefan had to break up with her in 14 languages before she clued in. Caroline was definitely a victim of child abuse. And, in a shocking turn of events, a piece of jewelry was not just jewelry.
8:01 - Still in Chicago, Klaus and Stefan lounge around in the boyfriend chairs at a fancy clothing store. You know it's fancy because they're drinking champagne, not because of the actual clothing,...

So... all That happened on The Vampire Diaries last night.
Katherine made her presence felt, Stefan was outed for still loving Elena, Damon sort of killed Alaric and Anna communicated with Jeremy from beyond. With so many happenings, there's no time to waste for Round Table panelists Matt Richenthal, Steve Marsi and Dan Forcella. Let's get right to it!
-------------------------------------------
What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Matt: Rebekah's speech to Stefan about how, deep inside, Klaus is actually jealous of him due to Stefan's devotion to family. Leave it to The Vampire Diaries to craft a layered, sensitive villain, even as he slurps the blood from one innocent victim after another.
Steve: Rebecca seeing through Stefan's probing questions and outing him to Klaus. The tension of not knowing how this dangerous loose cannon is going to react, and how much he instinctively knows in a situation like that,...

Almost every plot was thickened on The Vampire Diaries this week.
More than any episode in memory, "Disturbing Behavior" gave each vital character a chance to shine. Or connive. Or ponder her feelings for her blood-thirsty boyfriend's brother. Or temporarily murder his best friend in town because everyone was getting on his nerves.
Oh yes, Stefan is about to re-enter a Mystic Falls with a whole lot going on. Let's run it all down, shall we?
In Katherine, we... trust? Is that even the proper question to be asking these days, whether or not we trust Katherine? As we debated at length in last week's Vampire Diaries Round Table, it's impossible to keep track of this Nina Dobrev-portrayed character these days. What has she been up to? Why was in Chicago? What plot is she hatching this time around? Will it come together in a more sensible manner than her season two storyline?...

Previously: Romance! Heartbreak! Necklaces! Daddy issues! Brother issues! Hybrid issues! What will happen next?
With a “Gossip Girl”-esque set of exterior shots, we establish that Klaus and Stefan are still in Chicago. As they outfit Rebecca in some 2011-era garb—“So women in the 21st century dress like prostitutes, then,” she sniffs—the vampires discuss the Case of the Missing Bauble. Stefan excuses himself to get a breath of fresh air (or, you know, the vampire equivalent), but finds Katherine instead.

All these developments and more are teased in the following photo montage, as we tease various scenes from this Thursday's episode of The Vampire Diaries, "Disturbing Behavior."

I've practically been singing it (well, tweeting it) from the rooftops: tonight's episode of "The Vampire Diaries" was the best ever. I got a sneak peek at it on Wednesday at The CW, and I've spent the last 24 hours trying to figure out something I didn't like about it so that this recap wouldn't be completely gushy and obsessive.
Vamp fans... I hope you're into completely gushy and obsessive recaps. I have no complaints.
Previously on "The Vampire Diaries": Aw, Klaus's first Previously! Mrs. Lockwood shot the floozy. Bill Forbes showed up to destroy Caroline's hopes and dreams. Klaus attempted to build an army of soldiers-not-slaves (separate, but equal!) and failed so badly there were tears of blood. Tears. Of. Blood.
8:01 - Finally, the return of Katherine! Girl makes a phone booth look sexy. She's certainly been missed. It seems she and Elena have more in common than their enviable eyelashes.
