The New York Indian Film Festival (Nyiff) announced the full lineup last night for their 14th year of celebrating independent, art house, alternate, and Diaspora films from/about/connected to the Indian subcontinent (May 5 – 10) at the SoHo Tiffin Junction. Dedicated to bringing these films to a New York audience, the festival will feature 34 screenings (23 narrative, 11 documentary) –all seen for the first time in New York City.
The festival highlights various cinemas of India’s different regions – Marathi, Bengali and two films from the Northeast. In addition the festival covers cinemas from the neighboring South Asian countries – four films by Pakistani filmmakers, two from Sri Lanka – a feature and a documentary, and one from Nepal.

The stars of Coronation Street are reportedly worried that they will lose their jobs under a new producer. Phil Collinson will join the show next month after Kim Crowther decided to step down. Shobna Gulati has insisted that she never had any regrets about leaving Coronation Street in 2005. The actress bowed out of her role as Sunita Alahan four years ago in order to spend more time with her young son Ashkay. Coronation Street newcomer Kenny Doughty has confirmed that he will return to the ITV soap for another episode at the end of the year. The 30-year-old, who plays builder Jake in the Weatherfield serial, originally signed for six episodes back in August. Another two Coronation Street characters are to be written out of the show, Digital Spy can confirm. Darryl Morton and Vicki Dankowska - played by Jonathan Dixon and Wanda Opalinska - will bow out of the show later this year owing to "natural story progression".
