With that in mind, here’s my pick of the Top 5 (because it’s Sharknado Five… geddit?!?) movies from The Asylum in – shock, horror – order of preference…

As more and more statues of Confederate leaders come down across the United States, country music legend Charlie Daniels is speaking out about the movement — likening it to Isis’ demolition of historical sites in the Middle East.
“That’s what Isis is doing,” the 80-year-old Country Music Hall of Famer explained during an interview with cable network Newsmax TV on Wednesday. “There were pieces of history over there they didn’t like and they were taking them down.”

To read The National Review’s “Politically Incorrect Guide Memorial Day Movies” is one of those moments where you seriously wonder if conservatism in the Trump Era isn’t just one big episode of “Punk’d.” Written by Arthur Herman, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, the list was an attempt to highlight war movies for conservatives to watch on Memorial Day – many of which are fantastic – but are bizarrely packaged and advertised as movies that will piss off liberals.

Boy, what a week, huh? We haven’t even recovered from the mass shooting in Colorado Springs, their second in six weeks, and whammo! We have a mass shooting in San Bernardino.
With two major shooting events in America back to back, the usual script of recriminations and wailing didn’t hold, and people stopped being publicly polite and deferential to the enablers– the people who are now being called out for offering thoughts and prayers, but are not thinking about how to prevent more deaths from guns and praying that no one calls them on it.
This has led to unprecedented public calls for change, like the New York Daily News front page which has been retweeted over 22,000 times; by contrast, the New York Post front page of “Muslim Killers” got less than 4% of that. And the New York Times ran their first front page editorial since 1920, calling on...

Songs On Screen: All week HitFix will be featuring tributes by writers to their favorite musical moments from TV and film. Check out all the entries in the series here. When we talk about underrated directors, it's hard not to mention Walter Hill. Hill is an underrated director, the way Michael Ritchie and Peter Yates were underrated directors, the way Roger Donaldson, Joe Dante, and Fred Schepisi are underrated directors. They’re all underrated because it’s only when you look at their filmographies that the numbers start to total up and you realize, boy, he directed a lot of really good movies. In Hill’s case, that list includes "The Warriors," "48 Hours," "The Long Riders," "Southern Comfort,: "Hard Times," "Trespass," and "Wild Bill." Some great. Some solid. (My personal favorite of those is Hard Times, a pulpy film about bare-knuckle boxers in the Great Depression.) There were clunkers...

Cameos have become one of the staples of modern ensemble movies. It’s not like they need them to succeed. They don’t even need them for plot. But, hey, if you can get Bill Murray to pop up as himself in the middle of Zombieland, why not? When done well, cameos can be as transcendent as David Bowie in Zoolander, John Hurt in Spaceballs, or Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder. When executed poorly, well, at its best, it gets quickly forgotten. At its worst, it’s Bruce Willis in Ocean’s Twelve.

Timeliness is one thing you can count on with the Asylum Entertainment. If there's a big event film hitting movie screens, they'll be one step ahead of the curve with their own version of the subject matter. This time around we learn that not only was Abraham Lincoln a vampire hunter, but he had another part-time job as a zombie killer.
"Abraham Lincoln Vs. Zombies" begins when the future leader of our country sees his mother die from an infection that turns her into a flesh-eating creature. He pushes the horrible ordeal behind him and goes on to become the President. Years later, he journeys behind enemy lines to find that "sick" soldiers are really the ravenous undead he encountered as a child. It's left to him to lead a band of famous historical figures in a mission to destroy the walking dead.

The first trailer for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is out, and so are the first pics of its low-budget rival Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies.
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is adapted from the book of the same name by that guy Seth Grahame-Smith (yes, he's the guy who wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) who's really riding his one-trick pony to death by adding stupid horror elements to classic tales of literature and history. Hopefully, his undeserved success will end soon; but before that, we'll get to see the highly anticipated film version of his Lincoln tale. Benjamin Walker stars as the 16th president of the United States. Who hunts vampires:
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is directed by Timur Bekmambetov (he directed Night Watch, Day Watch, and Wanted) and will be in theaters on June 22nd, 2012.
Following closely on it's heels is The Asylum film Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies. This one...

Those inmates running The Asylum stopped taking their medication long enough to choose their next target, and it's a good one.
In a few weeks, The Asylum starts production on Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies, an "homage" to the still-in-production Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter from director Timur Bekmambetov.
As you know, we're big fans of The Asylum, who are essentially the Weird Al of film production houses. They take on big-time, legitimate blockbusters or proven moneymakers and grind out a version with a slightly altered title and a batshit crazy story (examples include the Thor knockoff Almighty Thor and the Paranormal Activity knockoff Paranormal Entity).
Of course, this time, the movie being mocked already has a batshit crazy story, so it will be interesting to see how insane Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies turns out. The official synopsis is actually pretty tame as these things go: "While the brutal Civil War rages on,...
In a few weeks, The Asylum starts production on Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies, an "homage" to the still-in-production Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter from director Timur Bekmambetov.

Terra Nova: Where Do I Know Them From?
by Kelly Kelemen for TV.com
Terra Nova just roared onto Fox's Monday lineup, backed by a hefty 9 figure budget from one Steven Spielberg, as the show hopes to garner a loyal fan base of thrill seekers and dino-enthusiasts and become the next Lost. But what the show doesn't have is that big name star that you know from countless other outlets such as Zooey Deschanel, Jane Lynch, Simon Cowell, Omar Epps, etc. So if you're busy putting your finger on actor's faces during the broadcast, desperately trying to place where they're from, here's a cheat sheet that might jog your memory.
Jason O’Mara (as Jim Shannon)
The show’s main character and Irish lad is no stranger to the little screen, if we can call it that anymore.

Stephen Lang, Aka Commander Nathaniel Taylor to those of us who are following Terra Nova, recently conducted an interview with the Los Angeles Times.
Lang is a very interesting figure. He is a highly educated man, and one with a lot of qualities and features that those of us who first really realized his existence in “Avatar” a few years ago.
I’d actually seen Mr. Lang in movies before, most notably, one of my all-time favorites, “Tombstone.” Who knew that yellow-bellied Ike Clanton was played by Lang? Seriously, I pointed him out to my husband for the first time last weekend while we watched that movie for the first time in a couple of years, and my husband challenged me. Luckily, I won the IMDb battle! His role as Charles Winstead in “Public Enemies” was memorable, too, and thankfully he was much more noticeable! I fully intend to get...

Psych dominated the Comic Con lunch hour on Thursday, by opening up with a routine from the Friendly Indians. Needless to say, James Roday and Dulé Hill joined the Indians on stage to provide backup vocals. The performance was an excellent follow-up to mock sdcc teaser clip that featured William Shatner, one of the lead guest stars in this coming season of Psych. The full list of Season 6 Guest Stars include: Malcolm McDowell Paulie Walker Joey McIntyre Kristie Swanson Corey Feldman Tom Lenk (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) Kurt Fuller Brad Dourif (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) Danny Dlover Michael Trucco (Fairly Legal) Wade Boggs Diedrich Bader Anthony Anderson Jason Priestley Cary Elwes Jaleel White Kenan Thompson William Shatner Stoney Jackson Other key points include: When asked about the abundance of 80s references on the show, Dulé promptly told fans that the 80s references would only grow as the show progressed.

Gods and Generals
Warner Home Video is still releasing director Ronald Maxwell’s historical war movies Gettysburg and Gods and Generals on Blu-ray on May 24, in time for Memorial Day on May 30. But if you want both films, you might want to wait until July 5 to purchase them, because that’s when Warner will release the pair in a double-feature Limited Collector’s Edition set.
1993’s Gettysburg stars Tom Berenger (Inception) and Martin Sheen (Love Happens) and follows the battle between the Confederacy and the Union in summer 1863. The film is based on Michael Shaara’s Pulitzer Prize-winning The Killer Angels and filmed at the actual battle locations. Released in theaters in 2003, Gods and Generals, about the rise and fall of legendary war hero Stonewall Jackson, stars Robert Duvall (Get Low) as General Robert E. Lee.
Warner will release its Gettysburg/Gods and Generals Limited Collector’s Edition on DVD and Blu-ray.

We have to imagine they will all be on the Confederacy side, but a number of country artists have signed on to star and/or create music for HBO’s forthcoming Civil War mini-series, “To Appomattox.” The series, about the final battle of the Civil War, stars Michael C. Hall as General Ulysses S. Grant, William Petersen as General William Tecumseh Sherman, Paul Giamatti as James “Pete” Longstreet and Bill Paxton as Stonewall Jackson. Among the country artists who will have roles are the members of Rascal Flatts, Dwight Yoakam, Kix Brooks (formerly of Brooks & Dunn), and Laura Bell Bundy, according to...

Psych returns to USA tonight at 10/9c, and you don’t want to miss this episode. Not only do we get the return of Cary Elwes, but the show has saved a very strong episode for its November comeback. Though a huge fan of the show, a few episodes this season have not, Imho, been quite up to what we as fans have come to expect.
There are other reasons that you definitely do not want to miss this episode, no matter what, and I’ll just leave it at that, although the following interview sort of gives things away. James Roday and Dule Hill were on call for a press Q & A recently, and it was the wild time it always is.
Have fun!
In the season premiere “Extradition II,” Shawn and Gus return to Vancouver to visit their old nemesis Despereaux (returning guest star Cary Elwes) in prison at the felon’s request,...

“We have been slacking a little bit this year, so I do apologize on behalf of all of us here at Psych. But they are coming,” Dulé Hill says, when asked what ’80s songs we can expect performed in Psych-Outs this season. So far, they’ve filmed one, with upcoming guest star Curt Smith from Tears for Fears. Songs that may make the cut: “Maybe ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart.’ Maybe ‘We Don’t Have to Take Our Clothes Off” by Jermaine Stewart. Maybe. Maybe is always the key word.” Here, Hill answers more questions from EW readers (and...

This year’s fantastic In Search Of Stoney Jackson was a Strong Arm Steady album, but it was really all about super-producer Madlib, who lent his acid-soaked, purple-and-paisley stamp to every psychedelic beat and oddball interlude. The eccentric Oxnard producer, born Otis Jackson Jr., goes even further on O.J. Simpson, his punningly named new collaboration with J-Dilla protégé Guilty Simpson. Not content merely to scribble in the margins, Madlib devotes half the album to sound collages loaded with blaxploitation dialogue, old stand-up routines, and sound bites from party records. The other half is a series of vehicles for ...

Strong Arm Steady did more than just survive after its biggest star, Xzibit, left in 2006: It thrived. First, the trio signed to Talib Kweli’s Blacksmith label. Then it hooked up with sonic mad scientist Madlib, who produced the entirety of its remarkable, filler-free new album In Search Of Stoney Jackson. Madlib digs deep into his bag of tricks for a virtuoso display of psychedelic soul loops, fuzzed-out electric blues, and trippy instrumentals like “Telegram” and the rare “Intro” and “Outro” that won’t have listeners reaching for the fast-forward button. Jackson is Madlib’s show, but rappers Phil ...

After hitting folks hard at Telluride, knocking them down, and stealing all the positive praise they were carrying around in their wallets, Jason Reitman's Up in the Air has released a teaser trailer. This trailer somehow manages to both be 1) George Clooney talking a bunch and 2) entirely compelling. His monologue reads as if Gordon Gekko mated with Dean Martin and their offspring grew up studying nihilism in order to become a motivational speaker. Our friends (and soon-to-be couch surfers at Reject HQ) over at /film has the exclusive trailer which you should see in Hi-Def. Check out the not-hi-def version here: Near perfect. The only misstep is a funny sound cue when Anna Kendrick's character is breaking down in Clooney's arms - there's a tremelo synth line that pops in like a cartoon sound of someone crying that made me laugh the first time I saw it. Otherwise, damn...

Counterprogramming with a vengeance, ''Trespass'' offers a full slate of assaults, shootings and beatings for those who have had it with holiday cheer.
Although the film plays as if writers Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis and director Walter Hill were suffering from serious testosterone imbalances, as the only new hard-action picture in the theaters, it should do a bang-up business during the season.
Mainstream possibilities, however, are limited, partly by a harsh black-vs.-white racial division, and while the film's exit may not be sudden, it should be abrupt.
Essentially a stripped-down update of ''The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, '' the film features two Arkansas firemen, Vince (Bill Paxton) and Don (William Sadler), who discover a map to stolen gold hidden years before in an abandoned East St. Louis factory complex.
However, that self-same industrial wasteland is now a killing ground for a gang of local black drug dealers headed by the ruthless, if dandified, King James (Ice T), or KJ as he's known. Vince and Don stumble over one of KJ's executions and before you know it have barricaded themselves in a room while KJ and his gang lay siege.
Vince and Don have a pair of involuntary guests, Bradlee, a homeless old coot (Art Evans) who knows every nook and cranny of the factory, and Lucky (De'Voreaux White), KJ's younger brother who gets taken hostage in the initial confusion. As a result, the white boys have a key to escape and KJ a reason to hold off in a frontal assault.
So Hill is stuck with a 90-minute standoff that he dresses up with a mutiny in KJ's gang led by the ultraviolent Savon (Ice Cube), some pickoff attempts on both sides, and the white boys' frantic attempts to hide the fact they have a fortune in gold on them.
So we have incidents of macho strutting piled on one another and punctuated with violent incidents, until everything gives way to a cataclysmic, bloody climax.
There are a few perfectly executed action bits, but they don't build so much as merely succeed one another, marking time to the foregone conclusion. And, strangely, despite their scale and speed, they lack enthusiasm and energy.
The young cast -- which also includes Stoney Jackson, Bruce A. Young and John Toles-Bey -- is plainly talented, but for the most part have done their best work in other films.
Despite the racial breakdown, and the presence of some mostly irrelevant video work that evokes the Rodney King incident, the action is too cartoonish to set many racial fires.
