The passing of Patrick Swayze was enough to break your heart. Has there ever really been anyone quite like him? At his best, Swayze was the type of guy who was equally at home playing romantic leads as he was dropping bad guys in action fare. Swayze’s career peaked in 1987, the year he danced his way to the top of the box office in Dirty Dancing. It made him a giant star, with him not only having one of the top-grossing movies of the year but also a huge hit song in a track off the soundtrack album, “She’s Like the Wind”.
While traditional thinking would have led to Swayze acting in a whole slew of romantic movies, he had something a little different in mind. Swayze wanted to become an action hero. The fact is, he was a natural for the genre. His dance training and general...

At a time when syndicated science fiction was just Star Trek series, it took some guts on Warner Bros’ part to try something darker and more experimental with J. Michael Straczynski’s Babylon 5, designed to tell a sprawling epic that was more political than it was space opera. The show arrived thirty years ago and was successful enough to spawn spin-off five telefilms and a short-lived spinoff, spanning 1993-2007.
The core of it, the 110 episodes from the original five-season series, have been remastered and collected on a nice Blu-ray box set from Warner Home Entertainment. Also included is the original pilot film.
Set in the 23rd century, the Earth Alliance has found its place among star-faring races, notably the Minbari and the Centauri. Some of these races are fine with humans; others wish them gone. Then there are the Vorlons, and no one knows what they want.

It’s been 30 years since Andrew Davis‘ The Fugitive landed in theaters, bringing theatergoers on a nail-biting mission to uncover the truth about Dr. Richard Kimble, a man wrongfully accused of murder. To celebrate the film’s thirty trips around the sun, Davis joins us for a brief and insightful interview regarding his time on The Fugitive, the differences between working alongside Harrison Ford and Steven Seagal, and his expert opinion about the secret to making an excellent TV-to-film adaptation.
Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee Jones, Julianne Moore, Joe Pantoliano, Andreas Katsulas, and Sela Ward star in The Fugitive, a crime thriller involving a nationwide manhunt led by a seasoned U.S. Marshall (Jones) to discover a woman’s killer. With Dr. Richard Kimble (Ford) in the Marshall’s crosshairs, the chase takes the duo from one action-packed setpiece to the next as a case of mistaken identity spirals out of control.

Director Andrew Davis has plenty of films to his credit, including the massive family hit Holes and the highly regarded Michael Douglas thriller A Perfect Murder, but he’s more than happy to mostly be known as “the guy who directed The Fugitive.” And no wonder.

It may have taken a long time to get here, but Babylon 5 is finally making the leap to Blu-ray. Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment announced today that all five seasons of the iconic sci-fi series will be released on Blu-ray on December 5th.
Babylon 5 has previously only been available on DVD and the image quality wasn’t always the best, so fans have been waiting for this moment for quite some time. You can check out the official box art for Babylon 5: The Complete Series below, which strangely doesn’t feature the titular space station.
All five seasons of Babylon 5 were scanned and remastered from the original camera negative in 4K, with a colour correction and the cleaning of dirt and scratches as well. The many CGI shots of the series have been digitally upscaled to HD, and short of a complete remaster, that’s probably...

"Babylon 5" is getting another moment in the sun. Series creator J. Michael Straczynski revealed via Twitter on May 3, 2023, that an animated film based on the show is forthcoming; he included a picture of the script he wrote with the announcement. Subsequent details were revealed a week later via The Hollywood Reporter, including the voice cast.
Subtitled "The Road Home," the movie's description reads:
"Travel across the galaxy with John Sheridan as he unexpectedly finds himself transported through multiple timelines and alternate realities in a quest to find his way back home. Along the way, he reunites with some familiar faces, while discovering cosmic new revelations about the history, purpose, and meaning of the Universe."

The 1990s were the peak of Harrison Ford's career as an action star. With "Star Wars" and "Indiana Jones" behind him, Ford appeared in a succession of one-off, star-driven vehicles. Audiences didn't flock out to these movies to see Indy or Han Solo, they did it to see Harrison Ford.
One of the most fondly remembered of these action movies is "The Fugitive," director Andrew Davis' remake of the 1963 TV series. Ford is the titular character: Dr. Richard Kimble, a Chicago surgeon falsely accused of killing his wife Helen (Sela Ward). Kimble escapes while being transported to prison; as a fugitive, he must simultaneously dodge pursuit by U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones) and find "the one-armed man" (Andreas Katsulas) who killed his wife.
The film's opening scenes show how Kimble became "The Fugitive" with montage-like efficiency, showing the good doctor's trial, questioning, sentencing, and escape within 20 minutes.

A new version of the Emmy-winning space opera television series Babylon 5 is in the works. The CW has put in development Babylon 5, described as a “from-the-ground-up reboot” of the critically acclaimed 1990s series, from original series creator J. Michael Straczynski and Warner Bros. Television.
Written by Straczynski, the reboot revolves around John Sheridan (played by Bruce Boxleitner in the original series), an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, who is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space, a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. His arrival triggers a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined, as an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us, putting Sheridan and the rest of the B5 crew in the line of fire as the last,...

Someone To Watch Over Me may be one of Ridley Scott's lesser known films, and it's getting a new Blu-ray release from Shout! Factory on March 12. This 1987 thriller stars Tom Berenger, Mimi Rogers, and Lorraine Bracco. Rich socialite Claire Gregory (Rogers) is at a fancy party with her fancy friends and boyfriend when she witnesses mob thug Joey Venza (Andreas Katsulas) murder a friend. You'd think that someone would be smart enough not to off a person while there's a huge social function going on upstairs, but Venza doesn't appear to have a wide range of skills in the intelligence department. Claire gasps, Venza sees...

We salute a much-loved Babylon 5 character, played by the much-missed Stephen Furst...
A little less than a year ago, in the wake of Jerry Doyle’s passing, Babylon 5 creator J.M. Straczynski made a passionate plea to the universe; too many B5 alumni had died already. Following the untimely deaths of Michael O’Hare, Richard Biggs, Andreas Katsulas, Jeff Conaway, and more recently Jerry Doyle, Straczynski was “goddamned tired of it” and he asked the universe to “knock it off for a while”.

"No one here is exactly what they appear."
That line was delivered by the late, great Andreas Katsulas in an episode of the fantastic '90s scifi series Babylon 5, but it could just as easily apply to the crew of the Raza.
I mentioned in the comments of a previous review that Three was becoming my favorite character on this show, and Dark Matter Season 2 Episode 4 only reinforces this sentiment.
Let's start things off by examining the other principal story of this episode, the Android's adventure on the station.
I wonder how many models of android are out there, because no one seemed to recognize Victor as one. Though it's entirely possibly he's modified his appearance.
Victor smelled like bad news to me, the way he casually talked his way into the Android's brain. It makes me wonder if he didn't monkey around with her while he was doing his "diagnostics.

There are plenty of interesting directions a return to the Babylon 5 universe could take. Here are a few suggestions...
I read somewhere that J.M. Straczynski writes every day. That’s not surprising given his extensive body of work for television, motion pictures, novels and comics. He is best known for Babylon 5, of course. I remember what a lot of people used to say about Babylon 5, “How much can happen on a space station?” Well, a lot actually! And after five seasons of the original series, a bunch of made-for-tv movies and a couple of spin-offs, there are still plenty of stories left to tell.
That is why I was excited recently to read that Joe (apparently, he thinks you’re cool if you just call him Joe) was going back to work on Babylon 5. My excitement soon turned to dread when I found out that...

For many fans of Babylon 5, the departure of Michael O’Hare (who played the Commander Jeffrey Sinclair on the J. Michael Straczynski created series) was a huge blow to a syndicated series that faced an uncertain future during its five year run. Some felt it odd, considering how much groundwork was being laid on Sinclair –both during the shows first season and what had been established before the shows start. Sinclair seemed to be important cog within Jms long-term, five year arc.
But in 1994, after the first season had wrapped, it was announced that O’Hare would not return for season two, and Bruce Boxleitner was announced as O’Hare’s replacement (albeit, a different character). At the time, the reason for his departure was explained as creative and that O’Hare –who spent a good portion of his acting career in...

There’s something fundamentally bizarre about a film nominated for seven academy awards, including best picture, being underrated. In fact, said film can’t even be cited as the victim of an Oscar backlash, and if esteemed net sources such as Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic are to be taken at face value there certainly wasn’t a lack of critical esteem, and it’s reputed enough to be have been lampooned and referenced in various comedies and TV shows. Considering that on top of that The Fugitive is a huge amount of fun, and features two great household names delivering career best performances, the lack of love is a mystery.

In the “no huge surprise” category, Columbia Pictures has announced that Andrew Garfield and director Marc Webb will be back for The Amazing Spider-Man sequel set to be released on May 2, 2014. Emma Stone is also expected to be back. The screenplay is by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. The reboot of the franchise –a risky move by Columbia coming only five years after 2007’s disappointing Spider-Man 3 with Tobey Maguire as the web-slinger- has grossed over $750 million to date.

Ridley Scott is, in some circles anyhow, a god. Practically treated as royalty with laudatory genuflection from certain film enthusiasts -- generally genre fetishists -- he has turned in two unimpeachable cinema touchstones, "Blade Runner" and "Alien," plus a few other arguable modern semi-classics including "Black Hawk Down" (though as you'll see, not all us here agree with that assessment) and "Gladiator." But his track record overall? Scott's batting average isn't exactly amazing across the board, and while he has major peaks, his work can be frustratingly uneven for someone who is clearly and masterfully talented. While a craftsman of technically marvelous and grand spectacle cinema, his films can also be inordinately soulless and have become increasingly so with each film (Sigourney Weaver famously said that Scott paid more attention to the props and extraterrestrials than the actors on "Alien," but somehow that picture still worked).
And while his latest,...

Two months ago, I had never seen an episode of Babylon 5. I had heard of it, and I was a fan of a lot of the comic book writings of the Babylon 5 creator, J. Michael Straczynski but I had no desire whatsoever to watch the show. There wasn’t any hatred of the show or any real reasoning behind the fact that I hadn’t seen it. It was just one of those things that I hadn’t gotten around to in my life. There are plenty of things in this world that I haven’t gotten around to doing yet, and I have to be honest when I say that shortening that list by watching Babylon 5 wasn’t very high on my list of priorities.
But….if I’ve learned nothing else, I’ve learned that I should listen to the advice of my friends.

J. Michael Straczynski has carved out a prolific career as a TV writer-producer, creating science-fiction phenomenon Babylon 5, and cult classic Jeremiah. He's also a popular comic book scribe, having penned adventures for such iconic characters as Spider-Man, Thor, and the Fantastic Four. But 2008 marks a new stage in the career of the man who is affectionately known by his passionate fan base simply as Jms.Straczynski's feature script, Changeling, is now a major motion picture that's expected to be a key player in this year's awards season. The film, which was directed by Clint Eastwood and stars Angelina Jolie, chronicles the true story of Christine Collins, a '20s-era single mother who becomes enmeshed in a web of political corruption when she tries to find her kidnapped son. Currently, Straczynski is working on a slew of high-profile projects, including scripts for the Paul Greengrass–helmed They Marched Into Sunlight...
