An attorney for Alec Baldwin said today that Wednesday’s report by the New Mexico safety regulators “exonerates” his client. The report cites “serious management failures” by the Rust production company in its investigation of the on-set shooting that killed Dp Halyna Hutchins and badly injured director Joel Souza last year.
“We are grateful to the New Mexico Occupational Health and Safety Bureau for investigating this matter,” Luke Nikas wrote in a post on Baldwin’s Instagram page (see it below). “We appreciate that the report exonerates Mr. Baldwin by making clear that he believed the gun held only dummy rounds and that his authority on the production was limited to approving script changes and creative casting. Mr. Baldwin had no authority over the matters that were the subject of the Bureau’s findings of violations, and we are pleased that the New Mexico authorities have clarified these critical issues.

Civil penalty is highest level of citation and maximum fine under New Mexico state law.
The New Mexico Environment Department’s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau (Ohsb) has fined the Rust production 136,793 after it failed to follow firearm safety guidelines on the day cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot.
The Ohsb said in its report that Rust Movie Productions LLC management knew that safety procedures were not being followed on set at Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe and “demonstrated plain indifference to employee safety by failing to review work practices and take corrective action”.

New Mexico’s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau issued the maximum possible fine to the production company behind Rust, determining it willfully failed to provide adequate safety precautions on the set where actor Alec Baldwin shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins last October.
The Bureau found that Rust Movie Productions took little to no action to confront two misfires on the film set before the fatal shooting of Hutchins, and that gun safety complaints from crew members went unanswered. The company faces a nearly 137,000 fine for the “willful-serious” citation by the government agency.

The production company behind the movie “Rust,” where actor and producer Alec Baldwin fatally shot cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on set, has been given the maximum possible fine for firearms safety failures on set.
New Mexico’s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau gave a 136,793 fine to Rust Movie Productions.
The bureau heard testimonies that production managers took little or no action after two previous misfires on set before Baldwin’s accidental shooting of Hutchins, and there were documented gun safety complaints from crew members that went unaddressed. Weapons experts were not allowed to make decisions about extra safety training, the bureau found.
Notably, the production company had not developed any process to make sure live rounds were not present on the movie set — a clear violation of industry safety standards.

Updated with detailed summary of the investigation: The company that produced the ill-fated Rust movie has been slapped with a fine of 136,793 by the New Mexico Occupational Health and Safety Bureau for its “willful and serious” violation of workplace safety procedures. The fine, which is the maximum allowable, follows the Bureau’s six-month investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accidental shooting that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza on October 21.
“There were serious management failures,” state Environmental Cabinet Secretary James Kenney said in a video statement (watch it below), “and more than sufficient evidence to suggest that if stardard industry practices were followed, the fatal shooting of Halyna Hutching and the serious injury to Joel Souza would not have occurred. … This is a complete failure of the employer to follow recognized national protocols that keep employees safe.”

Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie directors! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between.
This is the third episode of what we are calling The Final Frame. Here we will dissect the final film of a great, well-respected filmmaker, wrapped in the context of said filmmaker’s entire career. Our subject today: the recently departed Peter Bogdanovich. His final film: She’s Funny That Way, starring Owen Wilson, Imogen Poots, Kathryn Hahn, Rhys Ifans, Jennifer Aniston, Will Forte, Austin Pendleton, George Morfogen, Richard Lewis, and Cybill Shepherd. But wait! That’s only half-true! Before the half-hearted release of She’s Funny That Way, there was another version of the film. Its title? Squirrels to the Nuts. This is the cut that Bogdanovich wanted the world to see. Until the studio made him change it.

Showbiz in Soho is artificial, gaudy and vulgar, but Laurence Harvey’s slick promoter-con man thinks he can cheat at the pop music game. Cliff Richard is his new discovery, a teen crooner who digs the bongo drums. Wolf Mankowitz’s portrait of talent, glitz, and double-dealing in music and TV showbiz also stars Sylvia Syms as a Soho stripper and Yolande Donlan as a singing star trying to make a comeback. The disc contains director Val Guest’s uncut original version.

Lust-filled treachery in the steaming tropics! He dared to love a cannibal empress! Taglines like that suggest that it wasn’t easy to sell Carol Reed’s phenomenally good adaptation of Joseph Conrad’s classic, a tale of human self-degradation and malevolence in the tropics. Long difficult to see, it’s finally here to dazzle a generation that might appreciate its superb performances. Forget Lord Jim and Colonel Kurtz. Trevor Howard’s back-stabbing Peter Willems shows us the price of total betrayal: permanent banishment from humanity.

He’s mean, he’s nasty, he carries a razor and he’s dating your sister! Cosh Boy was front & center in 1953 debates about ‘what’s wrong with the British cinema.’ It holds up well, if not as PC social comment, then as solid exploitation fare, with our verminous hero putting the moves on tough-but-vulnerable local girl Joan Collins. The entire cast will want to stand in line to get revenge against Roy Walsh, the punk who steals from his own mum and lets his criminal gang do the dirty work. Take it from me, he’s a dirty rat.

Our mother, Jean Harvey, who has died aged 83, declared at the age of six that she wanted to be an actress. She went on to a successful stage and screen career, receiving widest recognition for her work in television over more than 30 years.
Her most famous role was in Compact (1962), one of the BBC's first soaps, as the editor of the magazine from which the show took its title. She appeared in several classic serials, including North and South (1975) and two versions of Jane Eyre, playing Mrs Reed in the 1973 adaptation and Mrs Fairfax in 1983. Her favourite TV role was as Sally, the wife of Max (George Cole) in A Man of Our Times (1968), for which she received a Bafta nomination.

California filmmaker James Kenney ties together 11 stories from around the globe into one feature film in "Other Than." The documentary's vivid images and compelling stories surround the shared human experience of being an outsider in differing parts of the world. What it's really about: "As the modern world becomes smaller and our differences become larger, can we afford to ignore what it means to be similar and yet unique? Eleven filmmakers on five continents explore the fine line between us and them. Travel to New Zealand, Vietnam, Canada, the U.S., Israel, and Brazil. Five continents. One Film. The film is really about outsiders in different cultures and how their experiences might comment on each other or overlap. The films push the limits of the documentary genre, incorporating a range from man-on-the-street to stop-motion animation. Subjects range from the light-hearted to the very serious." Why did you want to make.

Half of the 32 "X Factor" semifinalists performed on Thursday's (October 13) episode, which was delayed by a day due to Fox's coverage of Major League Baseball. The contestants ventured off to their mentors' luxurious homes and strutted their stuff in front of them, each vying for one of 16 spots in the finals.
In three out of four cases, the judges were joined by a super-special celebrity guest: In Santa Barbara, California, Paula Abdul was accompanied by Pharrell Williams; Enrique Iglesias was coupled with Nicole Scherzinger in Malibu, California; and Rihanna was by L.A. Reid's side at his cozy estate in the Hamptons, New York. Meanwhile, over in France, Simon Cowell was stood up by Mariah Carey, whose plane was grounded by Hurricane Irene.

Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, La Reid and Nicole Scherzinger have been assigned their mentoring categories on The X Factor USA. The judges, who were earlier tasked with choosing 32 singers to progress to the Judges' Houses stage of the competition, learned which group they will work with for the remainder of the season during Thursday night's broadcast. First to learn her category was Scherzinger, who will mentor the Over 30s. The eight acts who will work to impress the Pussycat Dolls singer in the hopes of making it to the live shows are Elaine Gibbs, Tiger Budbill, Leroy Bell, James Kenney, Josh Krajcik, Christa Collins, Dexter Haygood and Stacey Francis. Abdul was then given the Groups, a task which she earlier confessed would be a tall order for whichever panelist was to take it on. She will be forced to pick between (more)...

It's Boot Camp day 2 for "The X Factor" - the Top 32 are revealed, plus each category is assigned a judge. Exciting stuff.
More group time:
The Chris Rene-Brennin Hunt group gets "What's Going On" by the late, great Marvin Gaye. Awesome song for these voices, I predict - and then they do. It's very good. Matthew Johnson is a great one we haven't really seen before. Chris Rene doesn't sound as good as he did on his audition song. The Country group gets "I Won't Let Go" and it's a great piece for every single member. Hannah Bethel is a stand out, as are Thomas Wells and Tim Cifers. They all do very well. The Emma Henry group (we've seen her on "Idol," I think) gets "Chasing Cars" and the guy who leads it off is not good. Hannah Jackson has an interesting voice, very torn on her. Emma is another weird one.
