Barney, Norma, and Pugsley have hit a dead end -- at least in animated form. Netflix has cancelled the Dead End: Paranormal Park animated series, so there won't be a third season. The show was created by Hamish Steele, based on their DeadEndia graphic novels.
A dark fantasy comedy series, the Dead End: Paranormal Park TV show stars the voices of Zach Barack, Kody Kavitha, Alex Brightman, Emily Osment, Clinton Leupp, Kenny Tran, and Kathreen Khavari. The story follows the adventures of Barney (Barack), Norma (Kavitha), and a magical talking dog named Pugsley (Brightman). They balance their summer jobs at the local theme park haunted house while battling the totally real supernatural forces that dwell within it. Together with their guide to the underworld multiplane, a sardonic thousand-year-old demon named Courtney (Osment), they face zombie mascots, demonic game...

Aloha, spooky nerds!
When I set out to collect the week’s best in paranormal pop culture news, I knew ahead of time I wanted to give a shout to Netflix’s Dead End: Paranormal Park. I have been waiting to check it out for some time, and it delivered as an emotionally intelligent, fun show for all ages. And I figured there would be other movie and TV news within the realm of the weird. What I did not expect was the real deal stuff that dropped this week. Not only did China release a report about alien civilizations but the whole dang city of Amarillo, Texas went on record with a video still of… something caught on camera.
Before we dive in, don’t forget to continue the strange talk with our weekly paranormal pop culture Talking Strange podcast and video series hosted by yours truly, and available on Apple Podcasts,...

In Netflix’s new animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park, Barney — a young teen boy with an electric blue ombre — and his dog Pugsley move into a haunted amusement park where they begin working (and fighting monsters) alongside Norma, a fellow teen-turned-friend.
It sounds typical enough for a genre kids’ cartoon, yet Dead End — a colorful trip into the pains and joys of teenhood as its main trio battles demons, ghosts and their insecurities — isn’t typical for animation.
The 10-episode adventure stars a racially-, gender- and sexuality-diverse cast, with the main ensemble led by voice actors Zach Barack (the MCU’s first openly trans actor) as Barney, Kody Kavitha as Norma, Alex Brightman as Pugsley, Emily Osment as demon Courtney, and Clinton Leupp a.k.a. I’m all for comprehensive sex education, but I count one of the benefits of being gay as not having to have a detailed sex talk with my parents. I don’t think I could have taken hearing about cleanliness, lubrication and other intimate details from my parental units.
Still, if you must hear it from your mother, the best choice is a drag mother, like Miss Coco Peru. She’ll give it to you straight – at least as straight as you can get when it comes to gay sex.
Slightly Nsfw for language and subject matter.

We’ve all seen them, standing on the edges of the dance floor, or the back row at the stage at Pride. Heck, most of us have been them. They’re the gay wallflowers who know they’re at the right place with people just like them, but they’re envious that everyone else seems so happy, so relaxed and carefree.
Miss Coco Peru is having none of that. With her new “Show Me Your Pride” video she empathizes, prods and insists you to be the best, most open, happy you that you can possibly be.
As you hit the Pride parades, the parties, the circuit events this month, watch for those scared wallflowers. Help them on the dance floor, or whatever the main party is. Be their Fairy Godmother. Miss Coco will be so proud of you, be it helping someone else, or just you showing your pride.

J.P. Pitoc and Christian Campbell in Trick
Boy meets go-go boy and they try to find a place to hook-up…
That’s the basic premise of Trick, but if you’ve seen the beloved 1999 film, you know it’s actually a sweet and charming romantic comedy that has endured and is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year.
In the New York-based film, directed by Jim Fall and written by Jason Schafer, Gabriel (Christian Campbell) first sees go-go boy Mark (J.P. Pitoc) shaking it at a local gay bar, but a chance meeting on the subway later takes them on an all-night adventure that goes from a piano bar, Tori Spelling (who played Gabriel’s Bff, Katherine), a dance club and Gabriel’s memorable bathroom interaction with none other than Miss Coco Peru.
To commemorate the film, UCLA is hosting an Outfest Legacy screening this Saturday in Los Angeles along with a Q&A with Fall,...

Karen Black‘s husband Stephen Eckelberry confirmed on Facebook today that the 74-year-old actress has died after a long battle with cancer. As Miss Coco Peru could tell you, Karen Black had a number of great roles in Easy Rider, Five Easy Pieces (for which she received an Oscar nomination), Nashville, and Family Plot. But what’s your favorite Karen Black role?
Don’t all agree with me at once: For me it’s got to be Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean, where Karen Black plays Joanne, a shall-we-say transformed woman whose life is as gritty and mysterious as the saloon town where Mona (Sandy Dennis) tends bar. This Altman jam is one of the few all-female ensemble dramas where every character is a distinct and multidimensional vision. Coco Peru also pointed out Fonda's role in campaigning alongside Milk, the first openly gay public official in the United States, even helping him to defeat the notoriously anti-gay Briggs initiative.

Victor Victoria, the adventurously frank, bawdy, and hilarious musical starring Julie Andrews as a poor singer who becomes the toast of Paris when she reinvents herself as gay Polish female impersonator Count Victor Grazinski, turns 30 this year, which officially validates its timelessness. The Blake Edwards-directed romp is equal parts farce and social commentary, and it features unforgettable performances by Robert Preston as Victoria's gay mentor Carroll "Toddy" Todd, James Garner as nightclub owner King Marchard, and perhaps most notably, Lesley Ann Warren as the squeaky, naughty, and hysterical showgirl Norma Cassady. Norma is Judy Holliday on a horny sugar high, and that coquettish insanity earned Warren a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the '82 Oscars.
The most famous projects in Warren's oeuvre are as extreme and unpredictable as Norma herself. As a teenager, Warren played the titular naif in Rodgers and Hammerstein's '65 TV version of Cinderella...

While everyone was focused on New Jersey passing marriage equality yesterday, in my home state of West Virginia, Del. John Doyle introduced a civil unions bill in the legislature that is an "everything but the name" bill. In all honesty, I'm unsure how I feel about that – we have a statute defining marriage as a man and a woman, not an amendment, and we can't pass a nondiscrimination law. This may not be the attention we want. Still, yay, us!

In news that seems to shock everyone involved, over the weekend, Smurfs 3D crossed a half billion dollars at the global box office. A sequel was announced long ago, but this takes it to a new level of success.
Sometimes, the timing of TheOnion.com is a little tasteless.
It seems that The Glee Project's Damian McGinty is already filming for Glee, and while he's certainly Brittany's personal leprechaun, he's also in direct conflict with out Kurt and Santana. This could get ugly.
Wow. It's nice to know I'm hated in the comments on more than one site. I mean besides Fox News.
I still haven't watched the season premiere of Supernatural yet, but according to the recap I read, new god Castiel got some ironic smiting done. If I were a megachurch pastor, I might be worried.

First, a reminder that our sister site 365gay.com will be livetweeting the New York Marriage Day rally and lobbying day all day.
It’s official, Paula Abdul has signed on to be the final judge on The X Factor: USA. I’m suddenly much more interested in this show since you all caught me up on host Steve Jones and his gay positive, sex positive outlook on life. And no, he certainly has nothing to be ashamed of!
The Associated Press has a fairly innocuous piece that equates various recent bullying cases, including Tyler Clementi. While I’m not sure I’d have put them together like that, there’s something to be said for doing it for a mainstream audience.

First off, I’m back! I ran down to lovely Lexington, Va to talk to OUTLaw, the Glbt student organization at Washington & Lee University. They were great people, and didn’t throw rotten vegetables at me, so I think we had a really great talk about bullying, suicide, and Glee. Many thanks to Emerald, David, Chad, Anthony and everyone else for having me.
Mike O’Malley has a great interview about playing Burt Hummel and how much the show means, and how he and Chris Colfer go about all those heavy scenes. But what really got me was when he was discussing the sex education talk Burt and Kurt had, and how sex ed talks between parents and kids focus on the bad things. “And look — parents don’t want their kids having sex. If they did, they’d teach them technique! I don’t care how open-minded you are.

Tonight at 10 p.m., Logo will air a comedy special called One Night Stand Up: Dragtastic, marking the extremely rare occasion in the history of the fledgling gay cable network where it features a bunch of really funny drag queens. Oh, wait. Who the hell are we kidding? Really funny drag queens—hello RuPaul’s Drag Race, which launches its third season a week from today!—are the bread and butter of Logo! And thus, why we here at EW are always glued to the network. One of the best parts about tonight’s stand-up special Dragtastic—even though...

Steven Soderbergh is in early talks to direct Man From U.N.C.L.E’s trip to the big screen. Are all these 1960’s remakes because baby boomers are retiring and have time to go to the movies?
Speaking of terrible ideas, Warner Bros. is wooing Robert Zemeckis for a Wizard of Oz remake, using the original script. That’s right, nothing new, just a shot for shot remake with modern technology.
In slightly happier news, Tom Ford’s next movie is a comedy. He got his gay-angst out of his system and wants to laugh.
Senator Levin thinks he’s probably going to have to strip Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell repeal out of the Defense Authorization Bill and put it up for a stand alone vote, if there’s time. Which nobody expects there to be time.

Shouldn't it be raining glitter?
Here at Twitterwatch, mostly what we watch is celebrities. We don't really get out to the theater, or sit back in or recliners watching movies. We stare at a continuous stream of tweets, just hoping that something funny will cross our screen to share with you.
When Randy Rainbow, met Miss Coco Peru, he had nothing but good things to say about her show, which I'm betting means she had nothing but bad things to say in her show. But the fun kind of bad things, best said over martinis.

Our friends at BroadwayWorld.com have full coverage. Cher is doing a huge interview with Vanity Fair for the December issue, which hits newsstands tomorrow. She talks about aging, Chaz, Sonny and politics. Since it's election day, here are her thoughts on Sarah Palin and Jan Brewer: I got so obsessed with [C-span] that it was kind of interfering with my life. Sarah Palin came on, and I thought, Oh, f*ck, this is the end. Because a dumb woman is a dumb woman.

Here at Twitterwatch we spook easily. We like to spend our Halloween behind the computer where it's safe, not out with things that go bump in the night. Fortunately, other people like scary stuff, and we can experience a virtual Halloween without trying to pretend we can pull off the Sexy Fireman costume.
I thought it might be funny if Scott Evans went as the Human Torch or Captain America for Halloween, as some sort of ironic commentary on the fact that his brother tends to play dress up even when it's not Halloween. But that might be creepy in hindsight, and homemade costumes are always in fashion. That's a nice use of glitter, but it doesn't leave much mystery.

The obvious person to play straight man on Conan.
Miss Coco Peru is back in my consciousness, and I couldn't be happier . It started with a cameo on How I Met Your Mother this week. Now she's declaring Team Coco. And how fabulous would it be if Conan were to add Miss Coco Peru to his new late night show on TBS? It would certainly class up the joint.

But drag queens aren't the only folks getting dressed up these days. Halloween is coming up, and there are those folks who are just creative or adventurous. Eric Stonestreet's mother wants him to bring her a special piece of clothing while he's in Australia. Of course he later discovered the vest in question was from New Zealand.

HollywoodNews.com: How great is this fellow Gleeks?
It’s just been announced that Emmy winner Jane Lynch (“Best in Show,” “The 40-Year-Old Virgin”) and Broadway veteran Matthew Morrison (“Footloose,” “Hairspray”) and living legend Lily Tomlin (“Damages,” “Nine to Five”) will headline the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s 39th Anniversary Gala & Auction on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.
This is always a terrific event but this line-up is sure to make this year’s edition an amazing night.
Lynch, winner of the Emmy last month for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series, will receive the Center’s highest individual honor. She has worked to support the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (Lgbt) community and the Center, where she serves on the board of directors.
She helped make the Center’s “An Evening with Women: Celebrating Art, Music & Equality” a huge success...

Matt Lucas credits his creative partner David Walliams with getting him through the dark times of his divorce, and eventual suicide of his husband Kevin McGee. But he’s through the worst, and looking forward to Walliams marriage, and their new projects together, beyond and separate from Little Britain.
Anybody still watching 90210? It turns out they’ve finally gotten to their lesbian kiss between Jessica Lowndes and Rumer Willis. Where are they going with it? That’s not clear, but frankly, if the relationship can stabilize Adrianna a bit, the show may become watchable again.

If Only There Were A Sport For Masculine Men!
New York Magazine has an article about figure skating titled "The Less Flamboyant One" with the tease "Evan Lysacek may wear feathers, but he’s not Johnny Weir. Can his Olympic bid give male figure skating a more “mainstream” reputation?"
And things only go downhill from there.
The gist of the piece is that the rivalry between U.S. figure skaters Evan Lysacek and Johnny Weir is best viewed through the prism of masculinity and how being more "masculine" is seen as better for the sport, an attitude best summed up by this quote in the article from Lysacek's grandmother:
Initially, Evan wanted to do hockey. He’s not flamboyant. His goal has always been to have dads watch him skate and then see that it’s okay for their sons to do this, too. Evan’s always wanted people to...

At the core of the film is the relationship between struggling musical theatre writer Gabriel (Christian Campbell) and Go-Go Boy Mark (John Paul Pitoc), after a chance meeting on the subway. The dynamic between these two has a truthfulness to it and is thoroughly seducing. As they search the city for somewhere to hook up, what develops is sensitive and romantic. Why aren’t there more good gay movies? We hear this complaint at AfterElton.com a lot, and we’ve even made it a few times ourselves (although we think the results of this poll prove that there are more good movies than many of us think!).
There are surely many reasons why more “mainstream” movies don’t include gay or bisexual themes, but no doubt one of them is heterosexual discomfort – not just discomfort on the part of audiences and network executives, but also discomfort on the part of critics and others to champion these films.
This is where our poll of AfterElton.com readers on the 50 Greatest Gay Movies comes in. We can think of no better way to encourage the creation of more good gay movies than to praise and support the existence of past good gay movies!
How does this list compare to our previous poll?...

PARK CITY, Utah -- Jim Fall's "Trick" marks a striking shift from the searing and angry works that made up the New Queer Cinema ("Poison", "The Living End", "The Hours and Times") that dramatically shook up American movies at the start of the decade. Significantly, it also lacks the formal ambition of those films.
Exuberant but slight, this Fine Line Features acquisition is a work of limited ambition and modest pleasures that never quite attains the level of a fully thought-out work of art. The film should strike a chord with gay audiences eager to deconstruct the negative presuppositions about their lives. But upon deeper reflection, the movie seems unusually conservative and restrained, as if it were afraid to fully explore the distinct separation of gay and straight sensibilities.
To a large extent, the highly personal "Trick" functions as a gay "After Hours", its narrative detailing the epic, absurd experiences of its two radically different men trying to consummate an unlikely, albeit deeply felt attraction. Ambitious musical theater writer and composer Gabriel (Christian Campbell) crosses paths with the dreamy object of his desire, Mark John Paul Pitoc), a handsome, well-built "go-go boy" he fantasized about at a local strip club.
The conflict arises out of the increasingly absurd and sometimes funny succession of events that preclude them from carrying out their impulses. In their pursuit of carnal bliss, they pass through a gay Greenwich Village milieu of drag queens, muscle boys, piano singers and loners searching for their ideal mate. Neither stereotyped nor pathologized, the cultural definition is etched in painterly strokes with verve and insight.
Fall and screenwriter Jason Schafer incorporate deft reversals into the narrative, in particular their ability to suggest unforeseen nuances and depth in their characters (especially Pitoc, who appears at the start as vacant, though he turns out to be surprisingly complex). It's a film of excellent moments (such as a fantastic sequence in a bathroom bar involving Gabriel and a forbidding drag queen) that unfortunately never coalesces into the work the movie occasionally promises.
The film is conventionally put together. Fall can't break out of the script's circular, repetitive structure in which the pattern of attraction, estrangement and reconciliation is excessively deployed. Worst of all, Tori Spelling has a featured part as a desperately narcissistic actress rather unconvincingly put forth as Gabriel's muse and best friend.
Spelling has been used to ironic effect before ("The House of Yes"), but her shrill, hyper, one-note performance here becomes the stuff of nightmares. She needs to calm down. The other key performers -- Lorri Bagley as an aggressively straight and uninhibited woman, Steve Hayes as a bar singer and Clinton Leupp in drag -- are moving and exact.
