The free Spanish-language streaming platform Canela.TV has had a bit of a quiet start to 2023. The service added some new programming for kids from “Blippi” and “Cocomelon” in early April, but otherwise has made only small ripples in the streaming pond, no huge waves.

That is changing this week, however, with the announcement that the streamer’s parent company Canela Media is planning to add more than 2,000 hours of content to the platform in the 2023-24 TV season. The programming will include daily news offerings, original movies, telenovelas, and much more.
“Canela Studios has evolved since we first launched Canela Media and this year we are achieving a major milestone to have original productions across every single content vertical and audience segment, all with a fantastic in-house production and development team,” Canela Media CEO Isabel Rafferty Zavala said.

Early on election night 2016, I swiped a hot pink “Women for Trump” poster from the Midtown hotel where the reality TV star was scheduled to accept a magnificent, national-stage humbling. Almost everyone agreed a trouncing was coming, including, reportedly, Kellyanne Conway. The first woman to lead a major-party campaign, Conway reportedly spent Election Day planning for Trump’s inevitable loss, and her own equally inevitable pivot to cable-news punditry.
Throughout his campaign, Trump had barely hidden his contempt and revulsion for, if not all women, then any specific woman who...

The premiere of “Overboard” Monday night in Westwood Village served as one of the few moments for Latinos to gather and celebrate a rare breed of film: one featuring a Latino male lead.
As the box-office continues to be dominated by films featuring diverse casts and storytellers, Eugenio Derbez occupies a lonely perch in Hollywood as one of the few Latino actors who has starred in a wide-release film. A 2017 USC study found that Latinos represented just 3% of speaking roles in the top 100 films of 2016.
Fans of the Mexican actor lined the red carpet at The Regency Village Theater and were overjoyed when he stopped to take pictures with them.

The red carpet featured stars like Eva Longoria, who also has a role in the film. Jaime Camil (“Jane the Virgin”) and Latin pop singer Prince Royce attended, as did a number of Latino celebrities like Alicia Machado.

“I want to say to him, look, if a guy spent 70 years on this earth showing no regard for working people — there’s no record that he’s supported minimum wage or supported collective bargaining, or invested in poor communities, and then suddenly he’s going to be the champion of working people? Just call her Miss Golden Girl. Alicia Machado dazzled in a fitted gold gown at the Metropolitan Fashion Week Closing Gala and Awards Show in Burbank, California, Saturday night. The former Miss Universe, whom Hillary Clinton mentioned during the first presidential debate Monday, presented an award at the event while her 8-year-old daughter Dinorah showed off her inherited modeling skills in a pink dress and flower crown. And now, for the moment we’ve all truly been waiting for this election cycle: The premiere of “Saturday Night Live.” Last night, the sketch comedy legend kicked off its 42nd season with an uneven first episode. First-time host Margot Robbie held it down, flexing comedic muscle despite sketches that seemed unwilling to cast her as anything but “hottest person in the room.” But how did it go as a whole? Let’s take a closer look.

Season 42 of Saturday Night Live opened with its much-anticipated parody of the first presidential debate, which pitted Kate McKinnon's Hillary Clinton against Alec Baldwin's pitch-perfect Donald Trump.
In the cold open, Lester Holt, played by Michael Che, asked many of the same questions the two candidates faced Monday night, including how they would create more jobs if elected president.
"I've got a very presidential answer for this," Baldwin's Trump said. "Our jobs are fleeing this country. They're going to Mexico. They're going to Jina. I would stop that.

This has to be the, um, whackiest story of the 2016 presidential race. After Donald Trump dragged the world further into the gutter by suggesting people watch some porn — specifically one he alleged ex-Miss Universe Alicia Machado had appeared in — some BuzzFeed reporters decided to take him up on the offer. What they found instead is a softcore porn starring not Machado, but Trump himself. Now before you go sticking a fork in your eyes, The Donald’s role in the movie is pretty tame. His cameo consists of breaking a bottle of champagne on a Playboy-branded limo while several of...

"What kind of man stays up all night to smear a woman with lies and conspiracy theories?" Twitter storm in which he attacked Alicia Machado's past and questioned Clinton's judgement. "This is...unhinged, even for Trump," Clinton wrote. "Alicia deserves praise for courageously standing up to Trump's attacks. And he has the gall to blame her - and say he 'helped?' " Added Clinton,...

His Twitter storm also dragged in Hillary Clinton, accusing the Democratic presidential nominee of pushing Machado to become an American citizen so she could use her for political gain. During Monday night's presidential debate, Clinton, 68, held up Trump's past criticism of the former Miss Universe's weight as proof of his sexism and disrespect toward women over the years.

Donald Trump is playing right into Hillary Clinton's hands by keeping the Alicia Machado story alive, political experts tell People. During Monday night's presidential debate, Clinton held up Trump's past criticism of the former Miss Universe's weight as proof of his sexism and disrespect toward women over the years. Trump breathed new bluster into the issue the following day when he appeared on Fox and Friends and once again shamed Machado for gaining "a massive amount of weight" after she won the Miss Universe contest in 1996. "It was a real problem," he insisted. Ironically, Trump wasn't even asked about Machado in the interview.
