Battle Rounds of The Voice reached a high this week as the best of the best in this competition went head to head as well as the best of the best against the hopeless. What an intense battle. Last week was a breeze compared to this week. Live shows are going to wreck the phone lines this year. This talent is truly out of this world. If you’re not watching The Voice, catch up as soon as possible and thank us all later. This is where the entertainment is at!

Christina Aguilera's singers Sera Hill and Geoff McBride battled it out for a place in the next stage of The Voice in last night's episode. The duo were mentored by Jewel and Lionel Richie before performing the song 'Chain of Fools' in an attempt to make it to the live shows. Watch Sera and Geoff's battle below: Cee Lo Green began the coaches' comments and said he was "pleasantly surprised", adding that the "energy was very high". However, he added that he would choose Geoff. Meanwhile, Blake Shelton suggested that both Sera and Geoff can "sing the crap out of this song" and are "giving [it] everything they've got", while Adam Levine praised Geoff's spontaneity. Aguilera had the final say and began by praising the "power" in Geoff's (more)...

We’re in the heat of the battle rounds, which was on full display last night. There’s some fierce competition! It’s interesting to see how different battle pairings approach the battle round. Some people get super competitive, some people get inspired by each other and end up being really collaborative, and some people (like Sarah and Juliet) just seemed to have a great time. For the blog this week, I really wanted to try and focus on giving you guys more behind-the-scenes nuggets and a little more insight into what you don’t get to see on the show.

The Voice was a bittersweet joyride last night: I lost one of my favorite trillers, but we still have next week to see if my Queen-killing bald balladeer (bald-adeer?) Tony Vincent sails through. Also, some saucy, leggy ladies in fake-leather shorts survived. By default, that’s a triumph for the Lgbt community. Let’s grade the grudge matches!
Sera Hill vs. Geoff McBride, “Chain of Fools”
God, the battle rounds are so weird. And a little unsatisfying, frankly, since the strange tug-of-war between the two competing singers totally robs a song of its normal rhythms and intentions. Weirder yet are the contestant pairings, like the sultry, Estelle-cool Sera Hill and the howling soulman Geoff McBride, who joined forces on “Chain of Fools” for some reason. The argument on paper is the same as the one onstage: Sera has the smaller voice but brings the finger-wag choreography; Geoff has the raspy monster voice,...

There were so many impossible matchups on this week’s Voice “Battle Rounds,” with our four coaches selecting some of their most-promising acts for head-to-head vocal duels, that I half-wondered if other painful choices were imminent: Cut either crazy Cee Lo or his ridiculous fluffy cat. Pledge allegiance to Adam and his comfy sweater (somebody tell me they sell it at Target!) or Blake and his Hank Hill drawl. Join #TeamXtina’sLeftBreast or #TeamXtina’sRightBreast.
It didn’t have to be this way, of course. I mean, why did Blake have to pit Charlotte Sometimes against Lex Land just because both ladies have sultry-eerie voices?...

Though we were largely underwhelmed by last week's Battle Rounds on "The Voice," the second installment this week certainly made up for it. (Note: Speaking of making things up, henceforth, the judges/coaches will be referred to as coadges. It'll catch on.)
But Battle Rounds, Week 2 also brought two competitive duets that tore our hearts out because we loved both contestants so much. Who's moving on after adorable family band singer Whitney Myers and Chaka Khan doppleganger Kim Yarbrough took on some Mary J. Blige? And after the battle of the best friend hipsters, Jamar Rogers and Jamie Lono, who is popping PBRs and moving on to the live shows?
Read on to find out (and be prepared to be gut-wrenched)...

Granted, there was no Jesse Campbell vs. Anthony Evans showdown this week. But Part Two of The Voice's Battle Round was filled with a number of good performers taking each other on in the ring.
If there is any reason for concern at this point in the competition, it is definitely that the coaches don't have as much opportunity to shine during the Battle Rounds. There just isn't enough time for Blake to crack a million jokes, and for Adam to gloat about winning season one when there is all this talent to showcase on stage. Let's take a look at said talent in this week's Battle Round...

Review: The Voice - Battle Round #2
The question coming in to tonight's Voice was whether the battles could possibly match the quality of last week's showdowns. The answer: not so much. But that doesn't mean there wasn't plenty to talk about.
The night started off with Team Cleavage (Team Christina) choosing 51 year-old Geoff McBride to face off against hotel receptionist Sera Hill. These were two really powerful voices, but Geoff thought he might have an advantage given that the song Christina chose, Aretha Franklin's Chain of Fools is almost as old as he is.
Geoff is paired with Lionel Richie, again because he's like totally old, and the moment he starts singing Richie flees in panic while flapping his arms around like some kind of extinct bird. Lionel then shows us how much he's actually been paying attention to the show by asking Geoff to remove his sunglasses when...

The battle round of 'The Voice' continued March 12 with tons of cockiness, a few surprising picks from the coaches, and one seriously tear-jerking moment -- courtesy of Jamar & Jamie For The Voice's first battle of the night, R&B singers Geoff McBride and Sera Hill took on "Chain of Fools." 51-year-old Geoff claimed he had a better chance because he grew up on the music they were singing, and he backed up that confidence by blowing away Lionel Richie. "His delivery is unbelievable," Lionel said. "There's no microphone! This is not coming off of a speaker." Sera wasn't as loud, but still received support from mentor Jewel. In the end, she won over Christina Aguilera's heart, who said she had to go with her gut when she chose Sera. Lindsey Pavao and Lee Koch were up next, and were surprised when Christina assigned them Nirvana's "Heart-shaped Box" as their battle song.

These battle rounds are no joke! Last week we already said goodbye to six singers on The Voice, and tonight we have to part ways with more, as the head-to-head vocal showdowns continued. So who had to challenge their teammate tonight in hopes of making it to the next round? Team Christina First up were Sera Hill and Geoff McBride from Christina Aguilera's team singin' Aretha Franklin's hit, "Chain of Fools." Right away, Sera was surprised with Geoff's intensity and ability to hit the high notes, so she said she had to bring her "diva card" out more. Meanwhile, you could tell Christina was so pumped by this pair of powerhouses by her ooohs and constant...

The battle rounds continue, and I can only hope there are some smarter decisions this week than last week. Not that all of the decisions were easy, mind you. I'm still wishing other judges could snap up whoever gets eliminated. Sort of like Go Fish, but with a much better payoff. Anyway, first up it's Team Christina. The next battle will be… Geoff McBride and Sera Hill. They'll be singing "Chain of Fools." Christina is excited to see the battle of the power singers. This isn't an easy call -- Christina thinks they're a great match! Um, Christina, you only get...

For the first battle on Monday night's battle round of "The Voice," Christina Aguilera chose her R&B singers Geoff McBride and Sera Hill. The very different vocalists tackled "Chain of Fools," with some help from Lionel Richie and Jewel.
"Being 51 years old," Geoff said, "I have an advantage simply because this is the stuff I grew up on."
He even blew Lionel away -- the legend threw his hands in the air, overwhelmed when he first heard Geoff's voice. "Boom! His delivery is unbelievable," Lionel gushed. "There's no microphone! This is not coming off of a speaker!" Lionel suggested that Geoff not wear his sunglasses on stage, to make some eye contact with the audience, so Geoff wore his regular glasses.
Sera may not have been able to sing as loud as Geoff could, but Jewel still had confidence in her. "At the end of the day, volume only goes so far.

The blind auditions came to an end Monday night on The Voice as each coach - Christina Aguilera, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green - finalized his and her team, landing 12 contestants each. First, though, came the shock of turning around and seeing Cameron Novack (aka Novacaine), who didn't make it on to anyone's team. He sang, (kind of) rapped and even beat-boxed a bit to Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know." "I did not expect you to look that way," Levine said. "How are you not a woman?" Fortunately, most of the other singers had better luck.

That was fun. After four weeks, five episodes and nine hours, The Voice has completed its season two Blind Auditions, and it was certainly a pleasant change from the bore fest that has become of other singing competitions.
Each coach rounded out his/her respective team, but Blake Shelton did it with the most style this week. Whether it was a joke about murdering Christina, or one about wanting Adam Levine in a sexual way, the country star had me laughing out loud on a number of occasions.
Check out our The Voice quotes page for all of Blake and the others' quips from the Blind Auditions.
Now let's take a look at the four teams, and who they added in the final round. We will start with the defending champion, who also had the best success rate when hitting his button this season.

The fourth edition of The Voice's Blind Auditions was highlighted by a number of strong female vocalists. Naia Kete, Charlotte Sometimes, and especially Mathai had me intrigued from their first notes. Who did you think was the most impressive from this week's installment?
Two things from this week's episode need to be noted before getting to the actual auditions:
I will never get tired of watching Blake Shelton bow to the audience after making a comment they enjoyed Carson Daly aggressively cheering for every contestant to get picked while back stage with their families is the funniest thing about this show. I can't tell whether he is sincerely rooting for every single performer, or if he's just feigning it for their friends.
Now let's get to the teams, which are starting to fill up. With only one Blind Audition episode left, every team either needs two or three contestants to fill its squad.

Some of the best moments on the The Voice come when the producers force us to play along with the coaches and judge solely on the voice. Right out of the gate, tonight’s episode took that turn when Sarah Golden took on Lady Gaga’s “You And I,” winning over Blake Shelton and Cee-lo. In the discussion that followed, we learned that Golden is a folk singer… so apparently none of the songs that the artists are allowed to sing during auditions were folk. But based on the song that she was able to attack, it seems that choosing Cee Lo was a smarter choice since he might have more to offer her when experimenting with various genres.
Two more artists joined Team Cee Lo this week, giving Golden some steep competition. 28 year old former model, Erin Martin wins the award for most unique voice of the night. Levine...

"The Voice" got down to business in the third round of blind auditions Monday night, and judge Adam Levine came out of the episode the true winner, adding four strong new players to his team. Christina Aguilera, who in the first two eps snagged some of the best vocalists so far in the competition, wasn't so lucky, scoring only two new team members. It took nearly half the episode, but Christina finally found a team member in Geoff McBride, a 51-year-old father of four from Florida who has worn sunglasses since childhood after being injured while kickboxing.

Reality singing competitions live or die by the strength of their contestants, but it doesn’t hurt to have other secret weapons — especially when you’ve got a two-hour telecast to fill. This week’s installment of The Voice certainly proved the value of a loaded arsenal — employing a fluffy white cat, some creative editing, subtle/possibly nonexistent nods to American Idol‘s Haley Reinhart, several hilariously unrehearsed outbursts, a wrestling match pitting Christina Aguilera’s breasts against the exhausted black Lycra of her scoop-neck top (spoiler alert: the blouse is so going to lose), and even a crushing blow to gossip monster Perez Hilton.

We've come to the point in my Voice recaps where I admit that I'm tone-deaf. So tone-deaf. Almost aggressively tone-deaf. When Christina Aguilera gargles up a compliment like, "It was really the tone in your voice I was attracted to," I literally believe she's talking about nothing. (She's usually talking about nothing, which makes it confusing.) She's actually talking about something I can't hear, but I believe that gives me an advantage over her: I can tell you what the average, below-average American hears in these contenders. We'll call that a gift.
Anyway, The Voice breezed through more than a dozen auditioners last night. It was so hard to like many of them. Let's give 'em all letter grades and shoot this two-hour fiasco off a cliff.

It was a good night for Adam Levine on The Voice. Not only did the Maroon 5er gather four new team members, and remind us all that he won last year's competition yet again, but he proved that he is easily the best at stating his case to the contestants.
Levine uses rational, eloquent and convincing arguments to persuade youngsters - with all celebrity coaches staring them in the face - to join Team Adam. Blake's witty insults, Christina's embarrassing attempts to match and Cee Lo's "take me or leave me" attitude have yet to contend with Levine's abilities as a "salesman."
