When John Lennon was working on his second solo album, he wrote “Imagine” at his white grand piano in his bedroom at his Tittenhurst Park estate, as his wife, Yoko Ono, looked on. When he cut it in the studio, it would also feature bass, drums and a string arrangement, co-produced with Phil Spector. A more spartan demo of the song featuring simply his voice and his 88 keys will make its debut on Imagine: the Ultimate Collection, an upcoming box-set anthology of the onetime Beatle’s celebrated Imagine album, due out October 5th.

On October 5, Geffen/UMe will release a six-disc box set of John Lennon’s 1971 album “Imagine,” which many feel is the best of his solo works. Titled “The Ultimate Collection,” this remixed and remastered 140-track collection is fully authorized by Yoko Ono Lennon, who oversaw the production and creative direction.
Spread across four CDs and two Blu-ray discs, this truly unique expanded edition offers a variety of listening experiences, ranging from the brand new Ultimate Mixes of the album, which reveal new levels of definition and clarity, to the Raw Studio Mixes that allow listeners to hear Lennon and the Plastic Ono Band’s original, unadorned performances, to 5.1 surround sound mixes and a Quadrasonic Album Mix, presenting the original four speaker mix remastered in Quadrasonic sound (a four-speaker audiophile format that was briefly popular in the early 1970s) for the first time in nearly 50 years.

American Cinema Editors (Ace) today announced nominations for the 64th Annual Ace Eddie Awards recognizing outstanding editing in ten categories of film, television and documentaries. Winners will be revealed during Ace’s annual black-tie awards ceremony on Friday, February 7, 2014 in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
The Ace Eddie Awards is considered an integral precursor to the Oscars. No film has won Best Picture at the Oscars without also having received at least a Best Editing nomination since Ordinary People in 1981. Since the Ace membership boasts a very high crossover within its membership of Academy members, it represents a very accurate bellwether for the eventual Oscar outcome.
