While press and filmmakers continued to land for the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival (Tiff), a Wednesday afternoon ceremony took place at King and John Sts. to officially name the one-block area Reitman Square in honor of Leslie and Clara Reitman and the Reitman family's support in helping Tiff create their impressive new home in the city's entertainment district. Filmmaker and producer Ivan Reitman and his sisters Susan Michaels and Agi Mandel were on hand to celebrate their parents Leslie and Clara, who came to Canada after World War II and after a career in dry cleaning purchased the land in the mid-'60s when it was Farb's Car Wash.

Toronto -- It's the sort of immigrants-make-good story that Hollywood loves to turn into a movie.
And it stars Hollywood producer Ivan Reitman, whose late parents Leslie and Clara Reitman were honored Wednesday by the city of Toronto with a downtown city block on which they once operated a car wash being named after them.
Reitman Square is also next to Bell Lightbox, the Toronto International Film Festival's year-round headquarters set to open its doors September 12, and built with the participation of the Reitmans.
Toronto International Film Festival CEO Piers Handling and city councilor Adam Vaughan officially named Reitman Square, while a proud Ivan Reitman, son Jason Reitman, and sisters Agi Mandel and Susan Michaels looked on.

Toronto -- The Ontario provincial government on Thursday poured another Can$10 million ($9.1 million) into Bell Lightbox, the year-round headquarters for the Toronto International Film Festival now expected to open in time for the 35th edition in September 2010.
The new money comes on top of the Can$25 million ($22.6 million) already given by Ontario to the five-story festival home.
The festival is building the cinema and condominium complex in partnership with Hollywood producer Ivan Reitman, his sisters Susan Michaels and Agi Mandel and real estate developer the Daniels Corp.
The Ontario government's latest contribution to Bell Lightbox also brings Toronto to within Can$37 million ($33.5 million) of its Can$196 million ($177.5 million) fund-raising goal to cover construction and capital endowment costs.
The recession has left Toronto festival organizers hard-pressed to successfully complete their corporate fund-raising campaign.
The 34th Toronto International Film Festival is set to open September 10 for a ten-day run.

TORONTO -- Producer Ivan Reitman and his two sisters on Thursday gave the Toronto International Film Festival a CAN$22 million ($20.75 million) noncash gift to help build a new year-round home.
Reitman, a Toronto native, and his sisters, Agi Mandel and Susan Michaels, donated downtown land valued at CAN$17 million ($16 million), on which the Bell Lightbox festival headquarters is being built.
The Reitman family also waived CAN$5 million ($4.7 million) in management fees stemming from their participation in the consortium developing the new headquarters.
The Reitman children first proposed building a condominium tower and year-round home for the festival on the land in 2002. Originally purchased by their parents, it has served as a commercial parking lot for decades.
"Our father had a vision for this piece of land many years ago. My sisters and I are honoring our parents Leslie and Clara Reitman with our association with the Toronto International Film Festival Group," Reitman said in a statement.
