Whitney Season 2, Episode 13: “Nesting”
Written by Theresa Mulligan Rosenthal
Directed by Andy Ackerman
Airs Wednesdays at 8pm (Et) on NBC
This week’s episode of Whitney makes up for the last few weeks of disappointment as we are introduced to Alex’s dad, Wayne (Dean Norris). “Nesting” is driven by Alex and Whitney’s decision to finally take their honeymoon at Alex’s parent’s lake house. Whitney is one of many sitcoms that continue to try to combine a mix of drama with its comedy and is often unsuccessful. However, this episode gets the show a little closer to the mark when both Alex and his dad confide in a messed-up Whitney. The show is a lot funnier this week and there are some great in-jokes, including one about AMC’s Breaking Bad, Dean Norris’ usual TV stomping grounds. It’s a pretty clever, multi-layered joke that for once works quite subtly.

Modern Family Season 4, Episode 16: “Bad Hair Day”
Written by Elaine Ko
Directed by Gail Mancuso
Airs on Wednesdays at 9pm (Et) on ABC
This week’s episode is packed with guest stars as Claire heads off to a school reunion. With Phil playing on Jay’s bowling team, things work out for the best for Claire as she gets to see her ex-boyfriend (and ex-professor) played by Maxwell Caulfield. Annie Murnolo and David Faustino also guest star as Claire’s old school friends. After being booted off the team Phil turns up and surprises her, this leads to Claire admitting that she wanted to look at the life that might have been. Cue another guest star, Maribeth Monroe of Workaholics as the professor’s wife. Monroe plays pretty much the same character but does it perfectly, so Claire realises she is lucky to have ended up with Phil.
Much like last week,...

Benderspink (Kyle Xy) has inked a new first-look deal with CBS TV Studios. Under the pact, the company has set up two multi-camera comedy projects at CBS: Second Wind and an untitled half-hour from writer Jonathan Goldstein (The New Adventures of Old Christine). Second Wind, written by Dean Craig (Death at a Funeral) and Sam Liefer, is a buddy comedy about two divorced male friends who have different perspectives on single life. The untitled Jonathan Goldstein sitcom centers on an idealistic newlywed who must go to work for his business tycoon father-in-law. Both have received script commitments. Additionally, Benderspink has an adaptation of Hannah Seligson's book A Little Bit Married set up at the studio with writer Theresa Mulligan (How I Met Your Mother). Before signing with CBS Studios in 2008, UTA-repped Benderspink, whose TV department is run by former UTA agent-turned-executive Alex Kerr, had a first-look deal with Fox21. On the feature side,...
