Baz Luhrmann directs Gatsby's very-talented cast of Leonard DiCaprio, Cary Mulligan, Tobey Maguire, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher and Elizabeth Debicki. The film is not an easy project to make, by any means, and not one to receive remarkable reviews for the most part. In fact, Upcoming Movies' Steve Ramos gave it a slightly above-average score, while Anders Wright posted a below par rating in his review. The film's holding a 44% "Rotten" score at Rottentomatoes.com. Luhrmann and Craig Pearce adapt the novel from F. Scott Fitzgerald for the screen. The cast also includes Gemma Ward, Callan McAuliffe, Amitabh Bachchan,...

Catch a well-designed, eye-catching new poster from Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby with Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) and Daisy Buchanan (Mulligan). Screenwritten by Craig Pearce and Luhrmann, based on the novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, the story follows Fitzgerald-like, would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (DiCaprio) and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy (Mulligan) and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan (Edgerton). It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a...

Wednesday, July 18, is the 20th anniversary of our marriage. How can I begin to tell you about Chaz? She fills my horizon, she is the great fact of my life, she has my love, she saved me from the fate of living out my life alone, which is where I seemed to be heading. If my cancer had come, and it would have, and Chaz had not been there with me, I can imagine a descent into lonely decrepitude. I was very sick. I might have vegetated in hopelessness. This woman never lost her love, and when it was necessary she forced me to want to live. She was always there believing I could do it, and her love was like a wind forcing me back from the grave. Does that sound too dramatic? You were not there. She was there every day, visiting me in the hospital whether I knew it or not,...

A few names are being considered for the role of Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, but Robert Pattinson isn’t one of them.
My heart almost stopped when rumors started flying around about Pattinson landing the role of Odair, and it turns out that even RPattz himself was curious to find out if he landed a role in another huge Ya franchise.
“I woke up this morning and saw all these things about me being cast in The Hunger Games,” Pattinson told USA Today. “I was kind of curious for a second. So I called my agent.”
The agent had news that probably excited many people, while breaking the hearts of others.
“(My agent) was like no one’s going to offer you that part,” Pattinson reveals with a laugh. “I was like, thanks for the reassurance.”
While the Twilight heartthrob isn’t in the running for the part of Finnick,...

The horror DVD releases that are targeted at the tweens are in abundance during the month of February. Cirque Du Freak attempts to straddle a very fine line between the horrific and the comedic, while trying to appeal to the teen market and others, all in one sitting. This would be impossible for even the most adept directors, but Paul Weitz has seemingly accomplished this feat. Although there is a whole slew of reviews that put Cirque Du Freak in different classes of quality, the movie site Cinemablend states of Cirque: "how well Cirque works must go to director Paul Weitz. His movie looks fantastic." This site is not really an expert on the tween market nor tween targeted horror, so fans of this film will have to put in their own thoughts on the film below. All the Cirque Du Freak details are below, as the DVD releases February 23. As well,...

Goodman Theatre's Board of Trustees proudly announces Patricia Cox as the new Chairman-Elect. Cox, whose involvement with the Goodman spans two decades, is currently its Vice Chairman. A founding member of Chicago's legendary St. Nicholas Theatre Company (with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet and actors William H. Macy and Stephen Schachter), Cox was among the city's first performing arts marketing, development and management leaders to emerge under the late, great Lyric Opera impresario Danny Newman. She has since worked with and consulted for a wide range of not-for-profit arts organizations in Chicago and across the country. Cox will assume chairmanship in the fall, as current Chairman Shawn M. Donnelley concludes her two-year tenure.
