“Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields,” a documentary about Brooke Shields and the sexual objectification she endured as a child actor, arrives on Hulu today.
In the two-part documentary, which premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, the actor and model opens up for the first time about her earliest experiences in Hollywood. The film tracks her rise as a child advertising model to her sexualization in movies, starting at age 12, in “Pretty Baby” (1978), and then at 15, in “The Blue Lagoon” (1980).
“I spent my life owing people things and doing whatever they wanted,” Shields says in a new teaser dropped Wednesday morning. “I finally asked myself, ‘What will I be if I don’t allow that anymore?'”
Shields’ experience with older men on set as a child is a common theme in her recollections.

HBO will premiere “Revolution Rent,” the 2019 documentary following Andy Señor Jr.’s journey to stage a production of “Rent” in Cuba, on June 15.
Señor Jr., who directed the documentary alongside Victor Patrick Alvarez, started his career with “Rent.” In the late 1990s he starred as Angel Dumott Schunard in Jonathan Larson’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical about a group of starving artists in the East Village who are dealing with big dreams, drug addiction and the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Now, things are coming full circle 25 years after the show made its Broadway debut. In the documentary, Señor Jr. takes the show from auditions through closing night, highlighting both the “setbacks and accomplishments” of being Cuba’s first Broadway musical produced by an American company in more than 50 years. Señor Jr.’s story is also a personal one, as he explores his Cuban heritage and family’s relationship to the country within this project.

If Joe Biden hasn’t decided on a running mate yet, he might want to add Taylor Swift to the short list.
The once apolitical megastar just tore into Donald Trump with a ferocity often absent from the Democrats’ technocratic approach to the former Celebrity Apprentice host.
After a brutal night that saw Minneapolis and other place in America burning in protest from the death of George Floyd at the knee of a much complained about cop, Trump started threatening online that “when looting starts, the shooting starts,” in a violation of Twitter’s rules against “glorifying violence.”
This morning, the multi-platinum singer took to social media to tell her 86.1 million Twitter followers and Trump himself that his reign of error will come to an end:

Snow banks and the 28-degree weather in Park City, Utah, didn’t stop armies of fans from coming out to see Taylor Swift tonight, who swarmed the Eccles Theatre for the Sundance world premiere of the Netflix documentary about her life, Miss Americana.
The Lana Wilson-directed doc takes an up close and personal look at the mega superstar as she sheds her “nice girl” image and braves her way to being an advocate for women (her lawsuit against radio DJ David Mueller who allegedly groped her) and Lgbtq supporters. Of particular note, after deciding for a majority of her career to just “smile and wave,” Swift boldly spoke out against Marsha Blackburn who was running for Tennessee’s junior Senator seat during the 2018 mid-term elections on a largely anti-feminist Trump-like platform. Blackburn won despite Swift endorsing two Democrats from her home state. The upside: Swift excited her young female...

Taylor Swift’s new documentary “Miss Americana” shows how the pop star reinvented herself, learned to speak out about politics and break from the “nice girl” image that kept her “muzzled” for so long.
The first trailer for the film, which Netflix will air on its service on Jan. 31 following a premiere at Sundance on Thursday, is described as a raw and emotionally revealing look at the singer. It shows how Swift broke away from media expectations to not express her opinions, be polite, smile and wave and instead harness the full power of her voice.
“No one physically saw me for a year. And that’s what I thought they wanted,” Swift says in the trailer. “I feel really good about not feeling muzzled anymore, and it was my own doing.”

Patrick Creadon and Christine O'Malley, the filmmakers behind the hit documentary Wordplay, are leaving the world of crossword puzzles to examine the expansive topic of the U.S. federal debt.
The husband-and-wife writing-directing-producing team will partner with indie production company Open Sky Entertainment to create a new feature-length documentary exploring the growing federal debt and its implications for the country's future.
"This film presents challenges similar to the ones we met when we made 'Wordplay, ' " said O'Malley, whose 2006 Sundance debut went on to earn $3.1 million at the domestic boxoffice. "Our hope is that we can again take a potentially dry story and make it cinematic, revealing and entertaining."
The film will be based loosely on the writings of Bill Bonner, Addison Wiggin and Kate Incontrera, editors of the financial newsletter "The Daily Reckoning." Creadon will write and direct the new documentary, and O'Malley will co-write and produce. Open Sky Entertainment co-founders Glenn Garland and Christopher Duddy will produce.
