“Devdas,” the 1917 novella by Bengali author Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, is one of the most commonly adapted stories in Indian cinema, and the tale's star-crossed romance and harsh critique of contemporary social mores have served as an influence for countless books and films. By the time then up-and-coming auteur Anurag Kashyap began conceiving his own take on “Devdas,” there had been at least fifteen movies directly or indirectly based on the novel, and the wildly popular Shah Rukh Khan version had recently been released in 2002. Not wanting to merely copy what came before, Kashyap decided to alter the story to reflect 21st-century social issues. This resulted in 2009's “Dev. D,” a bold adaptation that brought an arthouse style to general audiences.

Game of Thrones star Lena Headey will produce a series adaptation of Nikita Gill’s The Girl and the Goddess with Boat Rocker.
The Girl and the Goddess follows Paro as she embarks on the newest chapter of her life at a London university. As Paro’s world opens up to new possibilities, she must also face the trauma of her past — a place brought to vivid life through flashbacks to young Paro in India as her society is torn apart by Partition.
Paro is guided by numerous Hindu deities who provide a framework for each episode as they navigate her through the trials of childhood and teenage discovery, her search for meaning and, ultimately, empowerment. It’s a tale of a young queer woman of color realizing her power in the world, both in spite of where she grew up and precisely because of where she grew up.

Mumbai, Feb 16 (Ians) Actress Rashmi Agdekar is all set to reprise her role of Chandni in the second season of the popular web series Dev Dd, producer Ekta Kapoor's new-age retelling of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novel Devdas.
In Dev Dd, Rashmi plays Chandni, based on the character Chunnilal in Sara Chandra's original creation. In the web series, which first dropped in 2017, the character is a lesbian.
"Back in 2017, when web series were just starting out in India, we had mostly seen caricaturish and stereotypical portrayals of Lgbtqa characters on screen. But Chandni was not written that way. She is a regular small-town girl from Jaipur with her set of values, but she likes girls. It was this aspect that drew me to this role, as it normalises the representation of homosexual characters on screen, because that is how it is in real life," she claimed.
Rashmi is super excited about the second season.

Known for her magnetic personality, Richa Chadha is also admired for her upfront attitude and straight-forwardness. She never fails to voice her opinion about burning social issues or to render necessary actions, when required. Therefore, it would be compelling to watch her portray ‘Paro’ in Sudhir Mishra’s upcoming film Daas Dev which is modern day adaption of legendary Devdas set against the turbulent political backdrop of Uttar Pradesh.
Richa’s character Paro is said to be brave, audacious and has an intellect of her own. She does not shy away but flags her individual take on situations. Her transition from a girl in love to a powerful and dynamic self is noteworthy. In order to set things right, she eventually goes on to cast her opinions and strong beliefs overshadowing ‘Dev’ amidst the gruelling political arena.

With the platform already set by producer Vikram Bhatt’s Haunted 3D in 2011, it looked easy for Karishma Kapoor, who planned her comeback to Hindi cinema after a long hiatus of nine years, to make her return an impressive one. However, Lolo’s fans are going to be everything but entertained in her reincarnation attempt in the world of Bollywood with Bvg Films and Dar Motion Pictures’ Dangerous Ishhq. Seemingly, the fact that this movie stars Karishma who was a hit in the late 90s and the early 2000’s has been taken for granted by the film maker who has turned a blind eye towards the story line.
Produced by Arun Rangachari and directed by Vikram Bhatt, Dangerous Ishhq is a woman centric story (second in a row after Vikram Bhatt’s Hate Story) where the protagonist dies several times during the course of the movie in a bid to get united with her lover.
